Wait, Cooking Master Boy? This Shokugeki no Souma's predecessor cooking anime is getting a reboot? Man, they need to continue the old anime first. It ended on a freakin' cliffhanger!
*sigh* I guess they prefer to take the Hunter x Hunter (2011)-route. But if they don't get many episodes from the start like HxH (11), JoJo & Captain Tsubasa (18) then what's the point? Other than that, the new designs make the characters look funnier compared to the "serious designs" of the 97-98 anime. It's not necessarily a bad thing. Just different. Kinda like the more-cartoony HxH (11) compared to the older HxH (99).

Is it really a reboot though? The fact that they already feature Mao in his Super Chef outfit, and that they already show Shilou in the character design sheet, not to mention the fact that it's Shin Chuuka Ichiban kinda makes me think that it's an actual sequel to the previous anime. Also, the synopsis pretty much goes straight to mentioning the Underground Cooking Society already.

Still, I hope you're right and this new show will pick up the story that's left in 1998.

As someone who's never read or seen the original, I'd like a reboot myself.
This trend of adapting long-finished manga is certainly interesting, given how many great current manga are out there crying out to be adapted. Nothing against this series, and obviously stuff like UshiTora and Kiseijuu is great to have around, but it's interesting.

I prefer older design, that serious design is what hooked me into the manga, after all.
As someone who watched the old anime, I do wish they continue from the cliffhanger ending but given how they did old anime nowadays, I'm certain this is reboot.

But hey, if it turns out to be a continuation, you can always watch the old anime to catch up . Btw, wasn't this work popular enough to get a Chinese live-action drama back in 2005? Anyone has seen it? Is it good?

WTF?! this is unexpected, to say the least.
We didn't even know what the other utensils were in the anime, or what happened to Fei when he was in the underground. Hope they continue the series beyond where the old one stopped I did search for it recently, not much info about it other than it finished quickly? At least that's what I can gather from my limited google-fu (almost all the results I found are in chinese )

Kimi Sae Ireba is a great song yes, and actually the only song from the show that I remember (due to being in my playlists since time immemorial).
Hoping the OP's for the new anime are just as good. Edit: You know, I never realized just how awesome that rotating panning shot of Mao on the cliff overhang was until I saw it today, hot damn
