so is the beginning just like a dream or is it something that will happen in the future, or was it to just show what an IS battle looks like?
I believe that houki has a crush on Ichika and had one since they were younger, but looks like Ichika is the regular idiot when it comes to girls.

Not much progress I made discussing in the Infinite Stratos thread. So, here are my overall thoughts before the second episode airs.
I do agree that the first episode served the appetitizer; introducing the male lead and the subsequent first two female leads of the main harem, and thus explaining the settings, and the power balance radically shifted by the emergence of the IS. An overall and broad look to this show, and I felt either IS may become to a sort of extent of a successor to Vandread, at least that feels to me, obviously minus the twisted alien-machines, the space-opera voyage, and lots of other details I dont' want to discuss in order to avoid the spoiling. On the other hand, it could turn out to be a weird cross between Mai-Otome and some other sci-fi, mecha show, Jinki:Extend perhaps?, but done right as in the manga. Now the ensemble cast of characters (not the seiyuu themselves) looks promising, since the harem this time will be multicultural and international. But, hey, people are pondering about the USA representative, but what about other representatives like: the Italian representative, or the representative from Russia. Interesting, the choices aside from the Japanese representatives (duh! too obvious) that partake in this show. Since, the other countries had been in one way or another involved with Japan's history: China - It's just too obvious that those two countries have been on each other's edge since centuries, but relations reached strained climax from the first Sino-Japanese war (1894-1895) to the second Sino-Japanese war (1937-1945) and beyond that. Germany - Japan's allied to the Axis Powers during the Second World War. Britain France The last two were a bit of a surprise, but after researching a little bit of history makes sense. From the time period where Japan was forced by the USA to open contact to Western World in 1854 to the wake of 1868 Meiji Revolution France, Britain, and the Netherlands were the major European powers involved helping with Japan's modernization. France counseled and helped Japan in the modernization of the Imperial Japanese Army, although I need someone to clarify this historical fact, in case I oversimplified or overlooked essential data about this point. Britain is credited for supplying modern equipment, including ships. The Netherlands with the initiation of the modern Japanese Navy (The Nagasaki Naval Training Center) and supplying of Japan's first modern ships. Other powers at the time who provided military consultancy for Japan were as well Italy and the Kingdom of Prussia (1871-1918) It seems a little bit off that there are no Italian or Dutch representatives thrown into this show. Another example of a show that used the same technique as I can recall was Venus Versus Virus with the first episode's prologue opening with a teaser battle of future events to unfold. |

She will show up later and get involved with Ichika in a cinderella-esque story where they will burst out in song and dance when you least expect it! Oh man I can't recall the last musical anime episode I saw, I think we're due one, IS could work to fill that role
