If streaming talk in the last few months were any indication, particularly the September one, they might be trying to cover 9-10 volumes.

Please, let that not be true. It'll end up being another huge mess of an adaptation, and it's 2-cour to boot...

well it already started as a big mess with the horrible rushed pace, all we need now is see if this will keep happening, but they already did a really bad start.

Man this show is an absolute borefest.

Random attack happens in the city. Little explanation given on why. Then suddenly a battle with the king seemingly for shits and giggles. One side has the upper hand, then the other side has the upper hand and then it ends. Fucking riveting stuff here.

So many characters and not a single one of them is remotely interesting. The only character with the slightest bit of development is the mage girl and it isn't even good. They could all die in their sleep the next day and I wouldn't even care.

This makes me wonder: given the many, many real-live validations of such saying as 'haste makes waste' and 'measure twice, cut once'... why do folks keep rushing adaptations like this? It brings to mind another saying, about the definition of insanity. The setting and story could actually be interesting (I'm sure someone who's gotten to read the novels can drop some knowledge here), but it sound like the series to date isn't exactly giving them their best face.

Setting is great, antagonists are great. But I can't agree with some of the conflict resolutions, sometimes the methodology sometimes the outcome. Or rather than 'agree', I failed to be convinced at times. Other than that, a high fantasy + senki nut like me will continue pursuing the LN to the end.

Could be a lot of things, maybe they want to make sure it reaches a certain point to help sell the source material, or touches on a certain character so they can sell merchandise or something?

this is all based on a tabletop RPG, just like Lodoss War was originally a D&D Game.

think its more showing off the tabletop character archetypes. Once we get through that, it'll slow down to a more reasonable pace

Episode 4:

So the alliance got denied after all.

Felt bad for Aishela and Siluca this episode. The amount of stress they're dealing with is hard to imagine. Not to mention, Aishela gets herself injuried during her battle. I'm starting to like this show more now with the war drama going on.

Still not impressed by Theo though. I just hope they give him more characterization.

Also kinda feel like Siluca is starting to fall for Theo...

Somehow, I had this feeling they were going for 4 episodes per LN. They may be aiming to adapt up to LN06, if they keep this pacing.
But, given people's opinion here about the pacing, I guess each LN will have a nice chunk of content sacrificed along the way.

Episode still feels so rushed to the point where it feels like I'm watching a recap episode. Heck, even the transition between scenes and events felt fast and abrupt almost like the director didn't give a damn about executing smooth transition, but who can blame him with a pacing this rushed. He was probably given the script, read it and gave up trying to make an immersive world with this anime and just decided to put whatever's written onto the screen.

It's too bad coz you can tell there's a good story there, but the execution is beyond awkward. And the animation in this episode is great too which makes it more painful coz it adds to the "wasted potential"-nature of the show. This is Madan no Ou to Vanadis all over again.

I think it's pretty obvious since episode 2.

Mis-translation:
But they have no way of knowing that our talks broke down --> But there's no way they wouldn't have known that our talks broke down.

They really downplayed the relationship of Aubest with Siluca and Aishela. They even made it seem like Siluca cares nothing about Aubest and vice versa, which is totally opposite of what it should have been. Even though he did remain expressionless most of the time.

The fact that Siluca failed in both her negotiations really showed how green she was in her thinking. If Lassic hadn't killed Neville, her negotiation plan would have succeeded.

Marrine couldn't rein in the knights because she's still young and succeeded her father recently so let them do as they please for their pride; she really wanted to do as Aubest advised to keep a stronger guard. Fortunately in a way, Vilar let Marrine escape on thin account of blood relations. Vilar literally the best guy in this series. Even Siluca's action in Savis was part of his calculations.

Neville is the Savis geezer lord. You must be thinking of Neyman.

It was rushed, a lot, from what I read around at the time.

I have feeling that way anime present story, wouldn't work even for tabletop game. Which is sad considering it is actually based on one ( maybe novel were first, I can't say) and it does much better...

Do you know if there's any specific reason why they stopped using the (OP) mounted knights during 1st assault ?

Also I was wondering if it was really important that Siluca appeared "clean" in the eyes of the Mage Academy ? Why hasn't it been a factor before when she was under Theo ?

Anyway I kind of look forward where the show will go from there.
