I completely agree!

I agree with you. Completely. I think often why anime production companies done too much recently, about some sexual image exposure, indication of sex by minor, charactor nearly naked, weird personality stereotypes like Tundere(Yuck*), and overkill situation. Many of those factor makes ordinaly people to avoid anime, even hate, and push asides and away.
Then, Girls & Panzer. They're returns into some basic, even old standard story with much common sense. No over-eroticism, No Over-react mad persons, No Killing and Bloodbath. The ordinaly citizen can watch without unexity, bad feeling, I think that is a reason why G&P attracts many fan but not only Otakus. That's what I'm awaits long since. Long Forgotten Goodness.

The concept of GuP is actually not very original. I give the production team props for bringing the concept to TV, but this theme with girls & German tanks had been in existence amongst Japanese doujin circles for as long as I can remember. Though this is one of the few series that made sense...

Wait... does it?

LOL, whatever, its fun... thats all it matters.

Not to mention the whole "Saki with tanks" thing.

Marina2 was referring to Girls und Panzer as original in the sense of "original animation" rather than "original story". The risk here is financial as Actas is a very small studio trying to make a brand new show, and it's likely that they had to fund much of the project themselves. Making the show effectively the first tank anime as a risk is part of the premise.

With better financial backing, they could have made it a 2-cour show, and they wouldn't have underproduced Blu-rays by this much. Incidentally, this increases the chance for a sequel. With the first show a bonafide hit, it'd be a lot easier to secure funding, and there'd be a lot of incentive to do so as well.

On a different note, I've always liked tanks, but I still wasn't sure about Girls und Panzer until a couple of episodes in. The main source of trepidation was the title: anime loves Nazi fetishization in general, and a German title hinted that the show would lean in that direction. I'm really glad that the show itself doesn't do this, and I give all the credit for this to Mizushima's strong direction. Just a quick glance at the fanart reveals that the fandom would have loved to go in this direction.

It should be noted that Shinobu's spike was so strong that she triggered the Type 89's referee system and knocked it out

To be fair, when the thing's hull can be penetrated by the coaxial MACHINEGUNS from Shermans, you know that the 89's armor is crappy.

Was the Type 89 the tank which a gurkha soldier supposedly drove his bayonet through its driver's hatch?

A Gurkha having to use a weapon would imply that the armor was worth something.

Rabbit Team in a T95? Still doesn't help, they always get shot in the back.

The Type 89 is a catalogue of many unfortunate, hapless and sometimes funny deaths...

It can be disabled from:

An 8mm

A .50 cal

A truck collision

An artillery shell making only a proximity strike (far from direct hit), but enough to make its rivets spring out to all corners

Now... a bayonet...

Well, something like this happened....

Credit : http://acg.178.com/201301/153014626577.html

Quote:
China’s military media has been attracting ridicule in China and beyond after it published an article attacking bishoujo tanker anime Girls und Panzer for being secret Japanese militarist propaganda.
The piece, originally published by a PLA affiliated military newspaper, criticised Girls und Panzer for downplaying Japanese wartime aggression in favour of cute girls, even going so far as to suggest it was intended as subtle militarist propaganda and might help train the tank crews Japan is obviously desperate to send rampaging through China.

Even amongst Chinese, the notion that an anime this innocuous is implicated in a resurgence of militarism has attracted ridicule – although despite the online majority dismissing the criticism as crazed propaganda from their own military, some still insist only the Japanese devils could be sneaky enough to disguise their warmongering intentions with girls as cute as those of Girls und Panzer.
