Oh my...I absolutely loved this!
The first thing that came to mind was how "Western" this show is. In the first scene it seemed like something right out of LOTR mixed with Final Fantasy. However, the transition to present day? Right out of something like Pirates of the Caribbean, or some hilarious Old West adventure. And the Old West, mixed with magic? Even better! I loved every minute of it. It had great animation, great action, great music, and was downright hilarious. They also seem to be adding in some Nordic mythology with Helheim (thank you Thor and Marvel for teaching me about Yggdrasil and the 9 realms). I thought the girl was an angel considering she fell from the sky, but I guess the fact that she "fell" and that she was looking for Helheim should have been a clue that she's a fallen angel. I am pretty excited to see the next part. This was my favorite premiere so far. I like all the main characters so far. Favaro, Kaiser, and this demon girl are all interesting and I want to see where this all leads. It looks like Bahamut will make his return, but it will be up to our heroes in order to find a ways to stop him.

Okay. Why is this so good and how come I didn't hear about this until now. Animation is so fluid, and it captures the grand scale of battles so nicely. Wow.
As Irenesharda said, it feels not anime-ish by today's standards, and I'm loving the show for it. Hopefully the production value doesn't take too big of a dip after the premier, but if it retains even 50% of the first episode, it would already be one of the best shows of this season. |

You know, it's a shame it took me a second viewing to realize that the town Favaro and Kaiser are at "Wytearp", is a play on the name Wyatt Earp.
I knew they were going for a Old West feel, but seeing the little touches here and there, makes it even better.

Well, color me impressed. For a show that practically was devoid of any hype (at least to my knowledge) the premiere made a huge splash with sweet flashy visuals and an interesting fantasy setting.
I liked that Favaro's character design didn't really fit your usual stereotypical nondescript protag with slightly above average looks. Sporting a mini afro and an X scar on his face, Favaro is definitely not a looker. What he is though is a very skilled (and sneaky) bounty hunter who loves to live his life in constant frivolity. His clownish quality makes him instantly likeable despite the fact how crude and crass he is. At first glance he looks like an ordinary goof but he repeatedly displays on multiple occasions that he's more than the sum of his shaggy afro and his scar. Mostly it was the humor that managed to charm me and keep me engaged. Add to that the tantalizing cinematography and the adrenaline pumping fight choreography and we've got a recipe for a blockbuster show. P.S. - At the end I'm guessing the woman made Favaro her slave which is signified by the tail he grew overnight. |

Well damn, this was probably the most pure fun first episode of this season. I'm kind of 'whatever' about the animation in general (looked like game cutscenes at some parts) but the "traditional" animation was undoubtedly very nice, and I hope the budget is enough to support this quality throughout the show's run.
But what I loved most were: the character designs (not only do they look really good, they also work really well in the visual setting), the characters themselves (lol, Favaro Kaisar was also fun), the great directing and the great comic timing. The Kaisar vs Favaro chase was so fun and over the top, and it also provided one of the best scenes: the whole sequence with the Apple of Love. Seiyuu-wise this episode was the Yoshino Hiroyuki Show, and man was it impressive. (Coming off of Nobunaga Concerto where he broke my heart as Mori Nagayoshi, this was quite a whiplash...) Quote:
Come to think of it, I was at an anime con recently and there were SD figurines for this franchise (likely the game, and they were all girls) - I thought about buying one but the only one I recognized was Cerberos (so, so, so cute) and I didn't know what box she would be in so in the end I left without buying any. Perhaps I should've tried my luck... Last edited by kuromitsu; 2014-10-05 at 17:55. |

Amazing first episode.
It's so 'animated'. Feels a lot more western in its influences. Tons of small movements and motion when in most other shows you'd just have the characters standing around with their mouths moving. Afro rogue is hilarious and the Knight guy totally reminds me of Dandy. Demon girl is pretty cute too. Every minute of the first episode was jammed packed with action, character interactions, and details about the world but it never feels overwhelming. This is definitely one of my top picks for the season so far. |
