I really appreciate that the triangle was finally resolved. I remember seeing the TV ending and having a "Alto what" reaction.
It may not be in the Disney-fashion that everyone expected, but Alto finally chose his girl. I think this would be satisfaction enough for a lot of AruSheri/Sheryl fans? But I think I'm wrong on that account.
I know that at the very least I will be enjoying the movie for the music. I might just be on a high from "If you..." but I'm so ready for the movie OST to come out!
@Yot-chan, do tracks from Universal Bunny that weren't used in the first movie (Eien, Aenai Toki, etc.) make it into Sayonara no Tsubasa?
After reading the spoilers here, including Aenai Toki would make sense. IIRC, it was a song for Sheryl's ex, but it'd be really sweet to put into context of the ending.
Diamond Crevasse has become an even more heart-wrenching song than before. ;~;
I dunno with the majority of the audience, but so far I like the ending. In fact, I love it.
Sure, it may not be easy to swallow at first--but in the end, it's what you get and I say it's fine with me.

Not that I don't love me some shipping, but Yot, how would you rank the battles in the film against other great Macross fights? The DYRL finale, Isamu vs Guld, Macross Frontier finale etc. How was the YF-29 by the way?
Yot-chan, since the romance aspects of Macross Frontier is finally resolved, do you mind if you give a brief account of the battles and the music in the 2nd movie? I'm really curious about the song choices in there... as well as the battle scenes.

You know, quite frankly, I don't understand some of you guys. You'd rather have a triangular ending than the ending given to you. Then you say you want AruSherri. Now I'm even hearing some of you would've preferred AruRan or even Ranka taking Sheryl's place. Honestly, have any of you ever realized that Ranka is human too? I mean, bashing like that and saying she should be the one suffering just makes me puke. It's like we forget about being human when we speak.

....I would have preferred Ranka have Sheryl's ending and otherwise, because I'm a Sheryl fan over a Sheryl/Alto fan (and honestly, Ranka/Sheryl fan over that one, so I'm okay if Alto never comes back, Sheryl's at least waking up ). But in no way I hate Alto/Ranka either or Ranka (or Alto/Sheryl/Ranka)? Less of all in the Movieverse. I just saw the bittersweet Alto/Sheryl coming for ages, giving precedent of the interview (that spells it out) and Kawamori's tastes for his true love and making people JUST VANISH or tear apart or... He's a sadist with his couples.
It doesn't mean I wish ill to Ranka, it's just I would have preferred to have Sheryl as a super star in the end, unscathed in health. Because I think she has more to offer, musically wise, to Macross than Ranka does. It's my preference? I wanted more Sheryl-the-character over Sheryl/Alto romance (which is okay and obvious it'll go in that direction, it's Macross tradition). She's just more an engaging character (neither are real people) to keep around to me. However, seeing the lip twitching makes it hopeful she wakes up.
Anyway, I saw the "loser" in love gets off the hook, while the "winner" and the lover get a tragedy since they named Zero coming. Even the Alto being KIA/MIA, I even anticipated this before the spoilers (while everyone was thinking it'll be Ranka or Sheryl, nu-uh. He already did that: Plus and Zero). So I was bracing myself for this kind of outcome. Oh dear, I know Kawamori so well... but I was hoping he'll prove me wrong.

More details. At the end, Sheryl does begin to wake and earring flashes. (I believe that Yot-chan confirmed this on some page...)
From this summary, I would say that Alto does have the other earring. Considering the significance the earring has to the series (especially the scene in first movie where their feelings connected), I would say the ending is very hopeful. ^^
