左近
Sakon The name, Sakon is actually a position title in old Japanese governing system (like in Heian era). The official title is something like 左近衛府{ (SaKon-Efu, Right division). This position is an Imperial Guard. If I remember correctly, there were different ranks within this position, like 左近将軍 (Sakon-Shogun, officer rank, I believe), 左近中将 (Sakon-Chusho, a middle rank) etc. The kanji 左 means left. This guard positions were held by two divisions, 左近 and 右近 (Ukon, 右 means right). Normally the one with title 右 has a slightly higher rank. It’s the same thing as being a right-hand-man. If you read Japanese history story or something, you may see this title (Sakon, Ukon) used as person’s name. Old days, it was common to address the person with their title, not the actual name. So, some people are only as Sakon. Another Intresting piece of info,lifted from "http://llamakillers.sunset.net/paradise/foreign.php" |

斬不
Zabuza There is a word, ざぶざぶZabuzabu to imitate the sound of water moving roughly. Zabuza being a user of 水遁術 (Suiton jutsu, water element techniques), this word may be part of the meaning. The Kanji can be read as 再び斬らず (Futatabi Kirazu), "I won't kill again". Kanji 斬 means to cut/kill with a sword. Zabuza has a 首切り包丁 (Kubukiri-bouchou, cutting-head blade), the big blade that he can even stand on it. 日向 ヒナタ Hyuga Hinata There is a city named Hyuga in Japan, which uses the same Kanji as well. Hyuga means a sunny place. And the city of Hyuga is southern part of Japan, which (for some reason) have Palm trees. Hinata means sunny place. The kanji, 日向 can be read either as Hyuga or Hinata. I think it is well thought name and character, because her name is so opposite to what she is (so far). Hinata herself is a shy girl who (seems to be) stays in shadow, instead of coming out in the sun. But her name is sunny like a sunflower in summer (don’t ask me what that means... it’s just an image in my head!). I hope she can be as bright as her name is.

Well,i read Chinese.Chinese characters,as many know,are very similar to Kanji,both in meaning and the "shape" of the characters. From what i read,the letter on his forehead means,"love".He got his name from his mother,whom sacrificed herself unwillingly(?).(Correct me if im wrong about his mother dying unwillingly )Thus,to let the other Sand know about her hate for the Village,she name her son Gaara. Which translate into,a self-loving demon.She gave him this name also because she wanted her hate for the Sand to live on.(*She had this meaning in mind when she gave him that name=Let this child survive,and carry on my hatred for the Sand with him,or something along that line.*) |

ネジ
Neji Neji in Japanese means a screw. I checked dictionary but didn’t find any other meanings than a screw, and can’t find any similar sound words with more understandable meaning. Anybody else in Hyuga clan have their name related to the Sun or at least some type of light. But not Neji... Anyway, the word "screw" can be related to his Taijutsu, Kaiten. The movement of Kaiten looks like a screw. 海野イルカ Umino Iruka Controversy about his last name. Official charactor book doesn't mention his last name. But in some Weekly Jump shows his last name as Umino. So Naruto fans believes (and maybe confirmed in some sort...) that his last name is Umino. 海 (Umi) means ocean. 野 (No) means field. But 海の makes Umi an additives. And Iruka is a dolphin. So, his name is a dolphin in the ocean.

san = General respect (eg Mr, Miss, etc)
sama = high form of respect (eg the speakers master) chan/kun = respect for someone of your general stature, who you feel close to in some way (it's very hard to explain). sensei = teacher senpai = someone of higher social stature (eg someone in the school year above you). Don't quote me on those though.

Ninja is made from two characters(Kanji), "Nin" and "Ja". And those characters has own meaning. "Ja" means a person. What does "Nin" mean? This character has three meanings. The first is "patient", the second is "hide one's feelings" and the third is "act secretly". A good ninja must hide his feelings to win against enemy and must have a patient mind. Shinobi is just a word for "patience". I'm sorry for the bad explination. It's difficult for me to explain in english! I hope that you understand me. ^^;;
