If it is the philosophical question, then I believe Lelouch is a representation of necessary evils. He strives for a better world and a demolished Britannia, an empire that was like the Japanese Empire, subjugating the conquered. Lelouch used force to rid the world of a greater evil, Britannia.

Someone who could have been perfectly normal caught up in things with really little choice available to him. He did what he had to to make the world better. The alternatives could have been worse.

Though I'm not sure if it's applicable due to popularity issues, I find Seto Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh! to be more overrated.

Well, there's RD's Shirlulu group if you're interested, and, if nothing else, there's my Shirley group (just Shirley)

EDIT: Oh, and Kalulu is for people who like things easy. If I wanted things to be easy I'd be a Kalulu fan.

He's the desire we have to have power and the awareness that said power is able to eat us from inside, he's our desire to be alone facing everything we hate, to be able to stand up against what others can't, yet being wrong and twisted, to be helpless at start and yet being capable of anything. He's our desire to be outcast, but powerfull, our desire to break the rules....

In short, he's a fu***** rockstar. That's why he is so popular. =P
