Getting the same vibe. Seems the 1st ep was pretty faithful to the novels, so long as they keep that up, this could be one of those anime that stand as a testament of the medium.

So i started rewatching the trailers and notice a lot change between the two particularly the User Interface. In the 1st PV, the UI menu is blue and large while in the 2nd PV it's now minimal and crystal clear.

Fanfic idea:
Basically a view of what's going on in the real world during the events of Sword Art Online, possibly with some AU features. From the point of view of various original characters, possibly including: A police detective and computer expert leading up a task force to attempt to hack into the Sword Art Online program and disable , as well as decrypting any encrypted data on company servers etc that might give information of the whereabouts of Akihiko. Character Quote: "You cannot make an computer program that is unhackable any more than you can make a ship that is unsinkable. Sword Art Online in no exception. A bomb disposal unit officer who has been given a task somewhat different from his usual line of work: dismantling and examining Nerve Gear units taken off the shelves after the incident, in an attempt to find a way to safely deactivate the device without killing the user (obviously these devices would not be hooked up to anyone). Character Quote: "Technically speaking, the problem is not so much that it is impossible to remove the Nerve Gear unit without activating the microwave, but the only known means of doing so is far too dangerous to used with actual human subjects- cutting power and then destroying the internal battery with a gunshot." The fic, if I ever get around to writing it (not too likely, knowing my track record), will also include a number of news reports on events such as the initial discovery of the "defect" in the Nerve Gear, the international manhunt for Akihiko after its realized this is no accident etc. |

You know, i just realize Animax Asia is doing nothing about the recent new hit anime season. Sword Art Online is perfect for the channel if they were simulcasting it. Instead, their just promoting Beelzebub and City Hunter this July.

You know, the game is fun and all, but it isn't really on-topic. Perhaps you could discuss your results in the Social Group?

I don't want to be spoiled, and I'm going to read the novel but couldn't currently due to restraint of time, so mind if I ask, how depressing this show is going to be? From the first ep it doesn't look like thing will be going smoothly and the theme is kinda dark, so I'm worry if it might be quite depressing to watch.
Still going to watch it anyway. I just want to be prepare .

I didn't want to bring it to Q&A since....well it's not really appropriated for this kind of question, where specific questions about the show are asked, and I don't want to be spoiled so I'm not going to Light Novel Thread. All I'm asking is this anime is depressing in general or not.
