So I got bored of Isekai thing, again, so I digged some novels and found this gem~
Modern day supernatural mystery romance story. Just like Tenkai no Kiseki.
I find that modern day setting is way more interesting, or maybe I just can't stomach another isekai thing for a while

The isekai horn rabbits are like cute fluff balls compared to your "modern" rabbits!

Spoiler for :

My problem with isekai is I'm running out of "good" isekai series, all that's left is the hetare crap. Still not down for modern stuff unless it has RPG elements though...

The problem with these type of series focused on a "mystery" is that while they usually have a strong hook, the bottom line is that if the ending is not awesome, everything is going to feel like a bag of hot air and atrocious waste of time since the author made you wait NXXXX chapters for whatever edgy teenage angst ending that became the conclusion.

^^Modern rabbit is big and cute yo!

I swear if I have to see the word boukensha/adventurer one more time, I would vomit...

^The mystery here is not a single thing that will decide everything though. It didn't build up to depend solely on the identity of the culprit.
The true focus is actually romance, even the mystery is intertwined with romance.
The interactions between characters just, top-notch.

If you guys ever read that manga, Spiral, the feel is similar to that.

pretty much what Okashira said, series that have mystery as it theme tend to judged very strongly at the end, all mysteries/death game type of series tend to lure many reader at the beginning and if the end was just mediocre, what's await it is : " what the... that was the end ??? are you for real ??? You called that an ending .... etc"

^Nuh-uh!

Don't get me wrong, I only expect snusnu from isekai stories.

Coz isekai is the easiest setting for the allegedly activities beyond the law things.
Like Harem, Pedophilia, Rape, Murder, etc etc.
Though despite in such setting and with cheat and unlimited freedom, most isekai MC are fucking hetare... Such idiotic thing.

Modern day setting can focus on the plot without dealing with what to eat, how to shit, or travel method and duration. Pure plot no sidetracking. Bliss.

Merely starting when knowing that the ending is good sufficies.

As stated, mystery series (or survival as dragon said) have way too many cases where the initial plot hook makes a huge buzz, and catches your eye..... but after a few years of following you come to the reality that the emotional investment and all of your time put into following that work were laid to utter waste; pretty much the same as grabbing your money and setting it to fire in the case of you supporting releases. That feeling only becomes harsher and stronger if you take into account american TV as well series (like the X-files).

After being burned like a hundred times, is natural to be cautious of fire.

^X-Files is more like collections of episodic stories, right?
Sure, each mystery is connecting with each other to make a grand scheme, but it can be enjoyed partially too.

And as I said, this novel is more about psychological and human relationships of the characters.

Btw, MC's way of using telekinesis is unlike the usual way of flinging enemy to the wall or throwing/pushing them away, but by twisting/breaking their limbs just like Asagami Fujino from Kara no Kyoukai.

^Domestic violence, unfortunate incidents, suicide, murder, multiple personalities...

I can see why happy-go-lucky isekai travel like Death March is popular...

People just can't stomach heavy content...

^Maybe... It's a selfishness of 1 person. That person wants to be saved so created that world and summoned the others. The criteria for one to be selected is still a mystery though.

Someone clearly hasn't seen the several threads Erotora has made of normal series.
