So the soundtrack is out, and unless I'm deaf the one and only track I wanted is not on it. Its from episode 8 after the ED. It starts at 18:29 and ends at 19:50. So sad right now =(

Looks like double episode this week to make up for the one skipped last week.

That flying whale is just awesome, never seen anything like it before. I mean, it probably would of been even more amazing to see it in person like Makoto and the others did. Oh and the owl gave me some Hogwarts vibe for some reason. Nice bill Akane lol

Going to miss this show for sure. We need more Comfy on weekends

oh shit, it's finally here. I don't feel worthy of being able to watch 2 new eps back to back.

The flying whale scene reminded me of that one scene in Laputa where the FemMC explores the flying castle with that robot.

I was reminded more of the crossroads ship from the manga "PositioN" by Ashinano Hitoshi. Fine piece of animation though and well worth waiting for. Anzu's familiar and the punchline of Akane's tab from the cafe catching up to her was the topping on the show.

Nice to see Hina-yuurei-chan working the stall at the festival in the last episode, even if she was trying to keep out of sight. She's a sweetie.

Was a very enjoyable ride. Was unsure at first since it went along very slowly, but once you got into the pace it was fun every week.

Newspapers from the Otherworld, a flying whale with ancient ruins, a cat studying anthropology, and earthfish that love festivals! It really does look like they live in the borderlands between Earth and Heaven. (Although the mandrake might disagree on the latter part!)

This series has been my favorite of the season (and probably the most enjoyable since Non Non Biyori) although it took a couple episodes to get used to. It is unfortunate that good things have to come to an end, but that is life in this world. It seems like the manga is still ongoing, so perhaps we will meet again?

Genuinely sad to see this show end, it was an absolute treat to watch each week. Don't think I've been charmed so much by any show since Barakamon.

So glad we got to see more Anzu before the end.

Eps 11 and 12

The scene with the Flying Whale is hands down my absolutely favorite section of the manga, and I thought they did an excellent job adapting it here. Just really wonderful.

And the earthfish in episode 12 were also great. ^^

That being said, this was my favorite series of the season - a lovely adaptation of wonderful source material. What more could one ask for?

What a pity it is ending, but the manga is still with us.

Many thanks to J.C. Staff for such an excellent work here!

In ep11, I thought Akane's chest was gonna blow up, but it turns out it was just Chinatsu's head. lawl

Kenny being Anzu's teacher was a surprise as well. I can never get over characters talking to animals like it's normal. Well, I guess it's normal for witches.

I have to hold back my tears. I just finished the best of the five anime shows I watched this season. I guess the catharsis is too much for me.

Everything is spot on, and the imagery was perfect in every episode. The earthfish were also a nice anime-original addition to the show, and dat impeccable timing with the sequel hook.

Why do good things have to end? T_T

I'm happy with how JC Staff adapted one of my favorite manga. An OVA or two, please!

Yes! The whale is magnificent! And this episode contains Anzu and is therefore the best episode ever.

Thinking about it, there are actually lots of reasons why Anzu might know the history of pan/hotcakes in Japan. First there is her own interest in history, which means that learning the history of anything is likely interesting to her. Second, there's the fact that she works/lives in a cafe, so learning the history and details of foods they might be asked to prepare falls right in line with her day-to-day business. And also she and Kenny mentioned that hotcakes came to Japan in the meiji era, and there's a ghost who lived in that period working in her cafe who enjoys cooking/baking. All told, it makes sense for her to have learned it, and there are multiple sources for her to have gotten information from.

The view of the whale is a wonder and a mystery. A glimpse into an ancient civilization, hidden by magic, yet still gone and lost from history. It's a fascinating glimpse into the wonder of the magical side of the world this series presents, and it maintains that wonder by never really revealing anything: we don't actually know much about the civiliation that lived atop the whales, and we probably never will, because this isn't the sort of series that goes deep into that sort of thing. It flies by, letting us marvel at it, and then life goes on.

I'll get back for episode 12 in a bit.

PS: Akane, pay your tab at the cafe more often!

"So what did you do at the weekend, Chinatsu?"

"I went on a witches broomstick to visit a flying whale and then we had hotcakes for breakfast!"

"Ohhh hotcakes!"

All this makes me want to become a witch real talk. I feel like I as the audience am looking through the eyes of Chinatsu as she's the apprentice witch.

Now I can cry myself to sleep after that finale. The first few episodes were kinda slow, but everything clicked for me soon after and loved every single episode. Easily one of the best shows of the season.

Anzu making another appearance makes this episode an automatic win for me. The earthfish scene was great too.

I'm going to miss this show. It was a nice comfy show that helped me relax on weekends.
