Bit late in responding to the news, but mad props to all those involved in continuing the manga! It can't have been an easy decision to make, but I feel pretty confident these guys will be able to stick as close to Miura's original vision as possible. I'm also pretty familiar with some of Mori Kouji's works (particularly Holy Land and Suicide Island), and he's a pretty good author in his own right, as well. So yes, I think they can make this work.
Oh, and regarding the more... explicit aspects of the work, yes, Miura had already watered that down a good deal some time ago. Like others said, the Eclipse was pretty much the worst it ever got in that regard. I don't really expect the new team to jump straight back to incest/monster rape so soon after resuming publication, lol. |

Seeing the comments to this chapter from various places... the assistants and Mori took on a really thankless job. Every time a fan doesn't like something, they'll say it's their fault for doing a shit job and that Miura would have done infinitely better.
Personally, I thought those two chapters were good. The art took a dip but the quality is overall still very good.

I see a lot of things to be happy about, absolutely nothing to be upset about. Great chapters, I think the style may be slightly different to a trained or particular eye, but it is hardly immersion-breaking.
I'm more curious about the gags, comedy, and other small embellishments that may appear in the story, or the lack thereof. But I really have nothing but joy to see the story and spirit continue onwards, despite the unfortunate circumstances.

We knew this was bound to happen though especially with how we find out Moon child is effectively Griffith other self. I doubt Griffith would let Casca walk away with how Moon child is attached and connected to her

He could have kidnapped her at any time before this though. The real reason is that he realized he turned into the Moon Child recently, and that leaves him vulnerable. Having Casca close to him means he won't wander off.

Poor Guts can't catch a break. Even after Casca's mind was healed, she and Guts couldn't have a single moment together, and now she got kidnapped. Damn.
Guts really needs to obliterate Griffith. He won't find any peace until he does. Problem is, how can he gain the power to do so? And what will be the cost of getting that kind of power?

The situation is even worse now, with the tree destroyed all good creatures can no longer maintain their form in the corporeal world so that means no Puck, Isma and that other fairy for the final arc.
Also the despair of Guts visually looks great but it's certainly gut wrenching. S

This is like the Eclipse all over again, just a lot more kid friendly. They never even had time to ask for the Dragon Slayer to be upgraded so I have no clue how Guts will ever stand a chance against Griffith.

You mention the Eclipse. As much as I hate it, I've always envisioned the Eclipse as peak Berserk- Guts facing an enemy he cannot defeat, while he watches everything he cares about be destroyed or maimed as he's helpless to do anything about it... and the only reason he survives (outside of meta plot reasons) is because- as I'm willing to bet we'll see in the next chapter or two- Skull Knight shows up to bail him out.
If you go back in this thread far enough, you'll see complaints of "Dammit, Miura, stop play Idolm@ster and get back to the manga!". I'm convinced that that's why Berserk became less dark- and you can't tell me that Schierke becoming a character right as he started playing Idolm@ster is a coincidence. But now that his best friend is working on Berserk, we're going back to its roots of Pain, Agony, and Despair. Guts is a Struggler, and he always continues to struggle.

Berserk was never going to end in such a tragic way. The entire story has been characterized with Guts struggling and succeeding in spite of constantly being underestimated. From him fighting massive, hulking warriors (that are somehow spoiled), he has always upended the expectations of others.
Of course, the circumstances of the Godhand and Griffith stretch belief. But so many steps have been made, we've come so far. To me, this is definitely a "belly of the whale" moment, to remind us of the crucial problem: the Godhand are supremely powerful. Now it's time to finally figure out how to overcome that problem.

New chapter: they're all on the boat again everyone and especially Guts seems to be in full despair mode and interestingly Puck and the other elf didn't disappear I wonder why not.
Also there's going to be a one month break.

Late to the party, but another arc that I found particularly visceral was the troll arc. It might not be as sexually charged as the eclipse but the gore levels in that arc are very intense. I found that arc very enjoyable btw.
