Favorite mech anime
Mech genre probably most interesting genre imo, because there are so many different types of mech. From something like Code Geass which mostly deals with politic, Eureka 7 which has great romance in it, Gundam which deals with war, FMP which is basically a mix bag of many things, and super robot show like GaoGaiGar and Gurren Lagann. So to get to the point, out of these so many variation of mech gnere which is your favorite mech anime.
1. GaoGaiGar/GaoGaiGar Final- Ok well even though I picked two anime as my favorite mech anime, I just can't decide between which is better, both were so awesome and epic. (also WHERE THE HELL IS GAOGAIGAR Z? ) 2. Tenge Toppa Gurren Lagann- Gurren Lagann one of the best anime that came out in years and it is the super robot show of the decade. Though I would really like to put this as number one with GaoGaiGar, but GaoGaiGar just has a special place in my heart. 3. Gundam 0079- Despite being almost thirty years old (wow seriously almost twice as my age) the show when I watched was just amazing. Out of all the Gundam I would really pick this as number, because even though other Gundams were good they didn't really leave me with that amazing feeling much as the original. 4. Nadesico- What a fun show Nadesico was, there were so many fun character and the whole crew of Nadesico was just fun to watch. And I really loved the parody of Getter Robot with Gekigangar. 5. Rahxephon- People might call it copy of Evangelion, but I don't really give a damn. Rahxephon for me was just an amazing and the whole story was beautiful also I love the ending. 6. Gunbuster- Beginning of the show was pretty average nothing special, however through the middle all I could say was "wow". And the ending was really amazing and touching.

I would pick Vandread from Gonzo but Vandread is more like a sci-fi than 'true' mecha anime than Gundam or Macross.I hope you could count Vandread here.
Another favourite is original Gundam Seed.Although not the best Gundam series ever,I just like the design of Freedom,Justice and Providence Gundam.I really don't like Destiny but at least Strike Freedom and Infinite Justice has better design than previous counterparts. |

I've always had a special place in my heart for Gundam Wing since its one of the very first ones I have seen. Unlike the other 1000 ones out there, it has left a lasting impression on me. Zoids was also entertaining to me as well.

I guess if I had to pick one it would be the Full Metal Panic series. (FMP! Fummofu, and TSR!) It's just a great series with lots of entertainment value. I would also give an honorable mention to Eureka Seven, 08th MS Team, and the Patlabor series in my personal list of favorite mecha series.

Eureka Seven is one of my favorites, particularly because it's more of a coming-of-age story than a story about atual mechs. Infinite Ryvius - my absolute favorite, even though it's not really a mecha series. It balances out a HUGE cast of characters, some hard sci-fi elements(techno-babble, etc), a bit of romance, suspenseful battles, and plenty of plot twists to keep the audience entertained. Code Geass - slick action, plenty of plot twists, interesting characters, and a general sense of coolness. Generates PLENTY of suspense, especially toward the end of the series.

My favorite would probably be Code Geass . It's everything I could really ask for in a shounen/mecha series, the show was simply brilliant storywise and action. I also loved all the interesting characters. Not going to be very pleased if season two doesn't come out right after Gundam 00's first season .

It'd be easier to name the ones I don't like, which amount to Gundam Seed Destiny, Soko No Strain, Golion, God Mazinger, Getter Robo Go, Giniro No Olynossis (You can lump in every mecha series Toei has ever done frankly since they all seem to follow the same plot and formula. I guess that includes Golion as well, but I just wanted to point it out because it's especially cliche and generic), Cybuster and Super Robot Wars Divine Wars (Because of the atrociously bad animation and story hacking that made it one of the most half-assed adaptations I've ever seen).
Everything else is a favourite essentially. |
