Anime like Full Metal Panic

I'm starting to like romantic comedy type of stuff but with action in it. Something like Full Metal Panic or Code Geass was. Mechs or no mechs I don't care if they're in there. Something funny though to lighten the mood yet addicting action. Any suggestions?

Full Metal Panic and Vandread are extremely similar in comparison. These two series excel at literally placing the main characters worlds apart from each other. Not only do their differences confuse them, but it also allows them to draw closer to each other. In terms of giant robots and explosions they're all here, as well as some humor placed around the different perspectives the characters see. The only real difference between the two is that Vandread hosts a variety of different ladies in Hibiki's harem while Full Metal Panic focuses on the development of Sousuke's relationship with Chidori.



Martian Successor Nadesico

If you liked the fun and action that is Full Metal Panic! I'd dare say you'd enjoy a fantastic voyage on the space battleship Nacesico and her oddball crew of miscreants, misfits and many other off the wall characters, just like the socially retarded Sousuke Sagara and the free spirited cast of FMP!. in this space action, romance comedy, you'll soon find out that love, passion, giant robots, and a bunch of eccentric people, makes a recipe for an incredible anime with laughs, tears, and an action packed, nonstop story, that will take you out of this world.



Gunparade March

Both series explore themes of love and war in a mecha-based environment, capturing beautifully the awkwardness of young relationships. Neither shie from showing death and violence, but it is never gratuitous. 'Full Metal Panic' seems to be better known than 'Gunparade March', but this is rather unfair, because they're doing a similar thing, and they're doing it incredibly well. Both are recommended viewing in my book.


Black Cat

If you enjoy the concept of corrupt governments, both Black Cat and Code Geass definitely play up this aspect of life. In addition to this theme, the characters in both of these anime "gang up" in small factions in order to rebel against large governments where they hardly stand a chance. Both Code Geass and Black Cat have a twist however - the main characters have special supernatural powers that help them along the way. Over all, though they have differences between them, these two anime are similar enough to have the same feeling of repression of the underdogs that makes the viewer simply want to support them.


Black Lagoon

The darker side of the world is the center of these two anime. While Black Lagoon follows a crime group in a world of blackmail and deceit, Code Geass follows a terroristic rebellion (among other things.) Both shows have fantastic action, well-developed and wonderful to like characters, and a fast-paced story that's hard not to get sucked into.


Toshokan Sensou

It may not sound too convincing but FMP and Toshokan Sensou did feel somehow alike. Well TS wasn't a mecha show and didn't have those bits of echii, but that wasn't the main subject of FMP (really). In FMP we have a guy(solider) who enters a world he is (totally) unfamiliar with, namely high-school. On the other hand in TS we have a girl joining army. See the pattern? Good.
Plot wise FMP might be actually better (more coherent), but TS delivers some character development, which FMP so badly lacks. Yeah I know, it all sound fishy, but trust me there is a big chance that you will like one if you liked the other.
P.S. As a side note, Doujou and Sagara look quite alike.




Burst Angel

I really enjoy a show with a good storyline, plenty of action and some likeable characters. Both FMP and Burst Angel feature these in aplenty. Not usually being a mech fan, I found myself engrossed in giant robots battling away, as this is not the main focus of either series.
If you enjoy all of the features listed above, I really recommend the above shows as something a little more interesting than most.

Do any of those shows mentioned have some school-type items related to it? For example, in FMP, there were many episodes that had something to do with a highschool and the students. Most of the time it was funny.

EDIT:
I watched the first episode of gunparade march and it seemed pretty boring to me, might've been that I was extremely tired though. It's a similar anime and it has school life which is what I'm really looking for. I'll see how the next few episodes go.

Burst Angel takes place in school for a few episodes, but besides that none of the ones I mentioned really do.

Great Teacher Onizuka


I think both this and Full Metal Panic share some of the same humor, and I would also say that that the feeling is very similar in both the series. I also find a similarity in the main characters. I know it pehaps isn't obvious, but I think it's there, and that you would like the other if you liked one of them.

With a history of leading a motorcycle gang and getting bad grades in school, why would 22 year old Onizuka ever want to become a teacher? Is it to educate young minds or spread the joy of education? Sure, if it involves being able to look up high school girls' skirts! Watch as this would-be educator uses his own life lessons and unconstituted methods as a means to control a delinquent class of students -- students who certainly aren't as happy to have him as a teacher as he is happy to be teaching...

Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventures


Dual! has mecha which does include high school people. It has a good combination of ecchi with mecha.

Kazuki Yotsuga is able to see things that others can't; in his visions, giant robots battle it out in the streets, causing massive damage in their wake. Though his visions have made him an outcast from the rest of his peers, they have attracted the attention of Ken Sanada – a physicist who believes Kazuki’s visions are a gateway into a parallel world!
