Yay!

Well, finished ep 12 and on the whole it was not a bad ending ep - neither disappointing (like Atelier) nor stupendous (like Soredemo). Pretty much as expected - Tsugumi saved Meme, synched with both, chose both and then the final battle (with some rather gruesome scenes sprinkled throughout) - Shaula is TOUGH.

Overall a pretty good series, and one I enjoyed first and foremost. I will prolly archive it mainly for the latter. ^^

Btw, before I forget - my fave OP of the season.

And they all lived happily ever after.

Out of all the Gorgon sisters, Shaula definitely came to the most humiliating end. Being killed by three girls who aren't even in the active combat class of DWMA.

It's good to see Meme truly "awake" at last: no longer the forgetful airhead she's been throughout the series. Once it was revealed that her forgetfulness was due to Shaula's mind control, suddenly all the moments in the past where it may have seemed amusing or cute... weren't so much any more.

It only really makes sense that Tsugumi would partner with both of them in the end. That's really been the message of this story all along (in so much as this story can be said to have had a message): the three of them growing together as a group. Really I think one should read the lyrics in the OP as applying directly to this trio. All of it. At this moment, these lines in particular stand out:
we won't be satisfied with the routine future
we were born to make a new history come true
there is absolutely no absolute thing in this world
this road goes on forever as long as we won't give up

So there has never been one weapon with two meisters. So what? What is the past to tell these girls what their future will be? They have matched their souls to each other and faced greater trials than anyone could have expected, and come out on top. If tradition tries to get in their way they will run it over. And that is the way it should be, as far as I'm concerned.

I can't believe they got Shaula's witch soul. Akane and Clay were shocked.

It didn't look like it. She just handed it over. She's not aiming to become a deathscythe, after all.

It might even be dangerous for an untrained weapon to try eating a witch's soul.

Tsugumi's choice was unsurprising, though I can't help but feel it was a bit of a cop-out. Still, it was nicely executed.

No, they took it back and handed it over to Clay and Akane. It'll presumably either be permanently dealt with, or placed into storage until the question of whether or not Tsugumi will be a deathscythe is settled, then either eaten by Tsugumi, or otherwise dealt with.

Yeah in the end it ended in a way that was not all that surprising. Though honestly it was a nice and pleasant ending so props to it . There's something to be said about doing what's expected, but doing it well.

In the end I guess keeping them as a trio makes sense for the current time. Though it's still a pretty dangerous proposition to actually engage in combat like that. If Shaula wasn't taking them lightly or just plain weak in combat she could have killed Anya or Meme when they weren't currently holding a weapon. But they are both pretty proficient in terms of combat so maybe they could make it work to a degree long term.

But still pure laughs at Shaula's expense. I guess that's how it turns out for a pure control type. I don't think she lost just because she took them lightly, but that she just wasn't that strong in a straight up fight. If she'd been smart enough to drag it out and call some troops to her then it might have gone in her favor. Guess her soul will get stuck in storage or maybe just outright destroyed.

This was fun as a whole and some good nostalgia for Soul Eater in general.

Did anyone else notice that the shaula's soul was red not purple or is that just me?
Maybe I am crazy but shouldn't a witches Soul be purple. It looked to much like a Kishin soul to me.

(Witch Soul)

Akane probably more so since he was aiming for Tsugumi as well.

I was expecting at the end for Sid turned to a zombie. Oh well...

Disarmingly heartwarming. This - and the kiss - made me less than willing to complain about Shaula fight.
But I wanted this to be on the level of Vergil&Dante vs Arkham. ...Nevermind, it'd have been impossible to pull off.
Whatever. Pity that good things get to end.

Actually, Funimation seems to have missed something, as the last picture Random Curiosity has up for the series is this:

It's a bit of a shame Tsumugi won't become a death scythe. All that were left were the "easy" souls.

I wonder about the trio, though. It sounded a bit like TvTropes' description of Class S relationships in Schoolgirl Lesbians.
A trainer relationship. The growth process would be in love with love -> in love with close female friends -> in love with a single, presumably male person?

To be fair witches aren't that powerful outside of their specialty. They more or less all would have been killed easy if it weren't for their cunning and unfair battlefields. Arachne was totally pwned by Maka easily simply because of their compatibility. You can say Maka didn't even need to be in the EAT class to do that.

Against not only soul resonance but chain(?) team resonance... a witch just can't fight that.

Especially when she tries to stupidly do frontal attack like that. Made up birdie ultimate attack was totally Over powered even by EAT classes.

Bunch of untrained brats, but untrained brats with a cannon, as they say.

I guess as badly as the battle animation turned out, if we imagine it in our minds eye of what the fight should have been, it would make better sense with the author's intentions.

Moral of the story. "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids, and that dog too"

Woot for Yuri-Powa.

Also, their last move reminds me of a certain "blaster" LOL.

I don't even know what she'll look like as a Deathscythe or is it DeathHalberd in this case?
And the Yuri-trio is too innocent to be going after witches and eat them... they're not like the crazy EAT groups that can easily end other person's life like it's nothing.

And yea, that's why I don't really like Funimation, they tend to cut out some stuffs or try to get other subbers to drop their projects even tho the other subbers are way better...
It's why I always try to download fansubs instead of getting them from "licensed sources".

I bet a lot of people missed that pic up there.
