(L+CR) Kyoukai no Kanata (Beyond the Boundary)

As VAV said, this episode really focuses on the story that actually had to do with the "Beyond the Boundary" event. The transition feels a little too fast but not too rushed either. Too bad Akihito is falling Izumi's trap which made him suffer his slow transformation into a full youmu. Can't wait to see what will occur after that.

Oh boy, did we get a lot of plot this week!

Spoiler for Spoilers for epi. 7 and some thoughts:

My guess right now is that maybe the Nase clan is saving the Hollow Shadow core in order to boost the power of Izumi's weapon, much like how Sakura had been feeding her borrowed scythe with the youmu cores she's gathered. That would help hold back Fijimu, who looks to be pretty damn strong in his own right. If Fijimu intends to absorb the titular youmu Beyond the Boundary then Izumi would certainly need to also boost her own powers with Hollow Shadow if she wants to defeat him.

The question is, what does Akihito have to do with all this? Is his youmu core (I assume even a half youmu has one) somehow more valuable? Given what we've seen of his youmu power when it awakens that seems plausible. But because he is still half human and has no conscious control over his youmu self when it awakens the Nase and the Society can't easily justify killing him, even if Akihito's dream and a flashback from an earlier episode suggests he had killed someone in the past. But if his youmu side is weakened by the lull and his human side is placed into dormancy then they might have an excuse and an opportunity to kill him during the Lull. Izumi might need Mirai's power to get the job done, and that's why she intervened when the Inami clan initially wanted to execute Mirai for Yui's death.

For some reason I don't like Mirai and Akihito ending. I'd rather have them end up being best friends. I like how he Spirit World Warriors all suddenly show up for the Calm since it's a major payday for them.

The first half was bad. Mirai and Sakura are now somehow living together (WHAT) and Sakura has been turned into comic relief. I already had a hard time taking her character seriously and that did not help one bit. That's some 180 that girl pulled.

Thankfully the second half was a lot better with some nice albeit uninspired action and a more interesting plot than usual. What do both sides want with Akihito? I'm guessing one side wants to kill him and the other use him. Not sure which yet.

Izumi's weapon and the way she holds it kinda reminds me of Makie Otono Tachibana.

Anyway... Imma refrain from commenting about the first half.... as for the second half... well actually I have some lingering questions about their motivation in all of this but Imma shut up about it for now and let the remaining few episodes do the explaining for me....

Am starting to wonder if I should nickname this "the little series that could have".

Seriously, the premise really is interesting, but the execution is sloppy, even jagged at times, and it feels like a off road excursion in a low ride vehicle at times - that is, bumpy and jarring.

Really it comes down to frustrating, but especially that the series could have been so much better had they made better use of their time.

Well, perhaps I am still in a state of post-traumatic stress from ep 6, and the course of the next few eps will be able to smooth things out.

I feel like she "froze" away his human side. Miroku said she can manipulate ice but I think in this case she can use it to freeze a person's consciousness, which seemed to be what happened to that secretary girl at the beginning of the episode.

Ever watch a comedian flop on stage and press a joke over and over to try and scrap out at least one sheepish laugh? That's what this show does. A LOT.

The glasses, siscon and "fuyukai desu~" has been milked so much that it has literally ceased to be a solid and now exists as an incessant gas.

Man the dialogue went to shit again, I thought its getting better or at least I'm getting used to it in past few episode, but no I hate how these motherfucker trying to being edgy or snarky in every banter. Otherwise, good episode.

Is the dialogue that bad? Honestly I laughed on some of the jokes (except when Aki's mom showed up. That's creepy.) I think this episode is really good. I still don't understand what Izumi actually did to Aki tho.

I'm ok with having Sakura be the new comedy relief, she's quite cute in her home clothes though, but the joke being played over and over again in the first half of the episode is so bland it's a pain to watch, especially all that moe moe kyun stunt of Akihito's mom is just so retarded and creepy at the same time, plus her lines and voice casting couldn't get any worse.

The 2nd half is alright, piqued my interest a bit but nothing to write home about.

I think it had more to do with those dreams of his that we glimpsed when he was on the train.

8 episodes in and I still can't decide if I like this show or not.. We're getting the plot moving, which is good, but...
