Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu Light Novel and Manga
If anyone is still interested in this series~~
This seemingly abandoned website has short summaries for the novels. (Short - Shortened to one paragraph or so...) http://www.jupiterstar.com/moscribbl...se_novels.html No full manga volumes out, last time I checked.

Yeah, been there and it seems the OVA hit everything important and kept the focus on the two most important characters, all while telling a good coherent story. However, as you mentioned in the other thread, serenade, the novels are more in-depth with scenes and elements not shown in the OVA.
I knew of the bowling alley stuff from the DS game, but everything else you mentioned in the other thread were unknown. I wish the books, OVA, or something of Iriya would come to the west. Or a novel translation online. Grr. Dang, the lack of Iriya interest from so many saddens me. |

Having read 120 or so pages of volume 4~~
This part was extremely cut short from the anime, because they turned Yoshino (forgot his first name) into a random passing rapist and Hikari Itou was never present. Spoiler for Yoshino (forgot his first name):
Oops... a summary before I knew it... >_< Either way, they could make an episode or two or three out of this...

Well...if I remember correctly, the OVA attempts to rationalize the attempted rape by putting Yoshino/Guy with the porno mag that originally went to Naoyuki. He was reading it at the store, got horny, then overheard the rumors of Iriya's stay at the elementary school. Still, considering the fact that those rumors are 99% of the time just rumors, it was pretty random and dumb to try and get his rocks off that way.
My favorite aspect of Iriya is probably the humanity of the characters, esp Naoyuki, he is just a regular guy in irregular circumstances and reacts accordingly. In this OVA is was just "wtf random...O.o", in the novels this scene is "major character development" for Naoyuki. The OVA also didn't introduce the supporting characters in the military who worked with Iriya. When Iriya loses her recognition of Asaba, she's relating to all these characters the viewer isn't even familiar with. As good as KyoAni is, from watching ef ~a tale of memories~ I'd really like to see what SHAFT would do with Iriya.

Finally, fiiinally (seriously, this took a long time...), a full volume of the manga is set with an release date.
Release date is 6/27 Spoiler for cover:
The eyes (art-wise) kind of scare me, but more Iriya no Sora is good! (Unless the manga drifts off the novel story and ends up with bad results). Won't be able to get it myself for a while, but just pointing out~

Finally got around to reading the first volume of the manga... So far, it hasn't gone far from the story, cutting a bit from the novel/anime and adding stuff that never existed a bit as well as adding stuff that were cut from the anime (I believe reading that the manga will have a different end from the anime/novel...).
Putting the story aside, the art is... Well, it wasn't as bad as the cover tried to be. Zero awkwardness/looks very similar: Asaba (Mah... he has a basic design, after all) Akiho (As expected of Akiho! ( ^ω^) ) Shiina (She looks just a really little bit different from the original, but have no problem with her) Around the middle: Iriya (...Her design isn't horrid, but there is something off... The eyes...? I guess the whole art style) Her seizure scenes are scary... GAH! Who are you!: Enomoto (Hahaha!... Seriously, almost mistook him for someone else. Went from looking half-cool and half-suspicious to super-slimy and suspicious) Suizenji (He still has glasses at least, but he... his body build just looks different. Too slim, I guess. Hmm...) Also: Yuuko - Her design has been considerably changed (twintails instead of ponytail and a flower hairclip), but she still looks really cute and everything and the new designs didn't really subtract much, so this was OK. Found the novel illustrations, so might as will upload. Doesn't have much illustrations, huh, this novel: Spoiler for illustrations:

Time for a bump. First volume of manga is out in Mandarin by Taiwan Kadokawa. I can't remember which event in the manga was manga-original. Oh, and an amazon.co.jp page on Volume 2.
http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/...dengekimaoh-22 My lord... Iriya, is that you?
