Watched episode 6:

Another good episode... somehow reminded me of the movie Baby's Day Out when Hugtan got carried off in the mall. So it's a plant oshimaeda this time... would have been a b rutal death if they got digested. Three precure are more than enough to open the trap.

And lastly... did not expect that. Saaya has some acting experience on TV?

Looking forward to next week. ^^

Everything this new villainess does is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. Her speech, her mannerisms, her appearance... ARG! She makes me want to claw me eyes and ears out so I don't have to see or hear her any more.

Saya with wings in the preview? I assume it's symbolic... maybe that she's like an angel when acting? Also looks like Lulu will be going out to play. Better her than this new woman.

So is the previous villain just going to hang around the office and complain about losing his desk, or will his bosses do something more drastic to him for his failure?

Just want to share this chart on precure toy sales I've seen posted on MAL. Looks like precure lasted this long, because Precure 5 did well.

Quote:
TV rating and Bandai toy sales figure including Toei previous titles in the same time slot, Ojamajo Doremi and Ashita no nadja.

연도 (year), 평균 시청률 (average rating), 첫회 시청률 (first episode rating), 수익 (sales), 작품 (title)

1999년, 10.4%, n/a, 49 billion yen, 오자마녀 도레미 (Ojamajo Doremi)
2000년, 11.2%, n/a, 76 billion yen, 오자마녀 도레미# (Ojamajo Doremi #)
2001년, 10.6%, n/a, 65 billion yen, 좀~더! 오자마녀 도레미 (motto Ojamajo Doremi)
2002년, 8.3%, n/a, 40 billion yen, 오자마녀 도레미 돗~쾅~! (Ojamajo Doremi Dokkaan)
2003년, 6.8%, n/a, 31 billion yen, 내일의 나쟈, (Ashita no Nadja)
2004년, 7.29%, 7.4%, 101 billion yen, 두 사람은 프리큐어 (Futari wa Precure)
2005년, 7.87%, 8.0%, 123 billion yen, 두 사람은 프리큐어 MaxHeart
2006년, 6.38%, 8.8%, 60 billion yen, 두 사람은 프리큐어 SplashStar
2007년, 6.58%, 7.4%, 96 billion yen, Yes! 프리큐어 5 (translator note: Yes Precure 5 would have sold more, but stores sold out and children had to wait until more toys were produced. These five girls saved Precure franchise as the Toei was prepared to end Precure franchise if they didn't do well. you can see the increase in fight/animation quality from earlier episode to later ones. clear example of good sales leading to better animation)
2008년, 5.6%, 6.7%, 101 billion yen, Yes! 프리큐어 5 GoGo!
2009년, 6.49%, 7.4%, 115 billion yen, 프레시 프리큐어! (fresh Precure)
2010년, 6.5%, 6.6%, 130 billion yen, 하트 캐치 프리큐어! (heart catch)
2011년, 5.2%, 6.0%, 103 billion yen, 스위트 프리큐어♪ (suite. translator note: tsunami is blamed for dip in sales, also the Toei executives forced change in the story line to make it more light hearted in light of national disaster but I've got no proof, several dip in production quality is noticeable this season, along with more reliance on Toei Philippines branch. why tsunami why! many Precure fans point to Suite as the beginning of decline of Precure)
2012년, 5.3%, 5.4%, 108 billion yen, 스마일 프리큐어! (smile. translator note: very strong first quarter sales but it didn't finish strong)
2013년, 4.89%, 5.4%, 96 billion yen, 심쿵! 프리큐어 (doki doki)
2014년, 4.68%, 5.8%, 78 billion yen, 해피니스 차지 프리큐어! (happiness charge)
2015년, 4 .06%, 3.7%, 64 billion yen, Go! 프린세스 프리큐어 (Princess)
2016년, n/a , 5.2%, 71 billion yen, 마법사 프리큐어! (maho girls)

No matter what that chart says, Suite remains my favorite Precure series for several reasons.

Interesting that Yes 5 was such a hit, as most english-speaking responses I've seen to it tend to be rather lukewarm. Admittedly, it is a notable improvement over Splash Star, which was repetitive and formulaic, even above and beyond the norm for Precure.

Anyway, now Saaya can throw her shield at enemies? That's a plus, I guess. The cures whose powers are purely defensive always seem to have the short end of the stick, in my opinion. This group has a particular problem in that only Hana has a finisher.

On the rest of the episode... won't anyone ever learn to stop placing expectations on children based on their parents?

I should have known there is a thread about Precure series.
No, i have only finished watching Futaru wa Precure, the very first Precure series long time ago.
Not watched Max Heart and all the other Precure series at all though because I was not attached to the series.
I can't say it was bad, but it was kind of boring to me.

Still, I recently started to watching Happiness Charge.
I m starting to become attached to this one.
It is because of the characters I guess.
I love all the characters already, Megumi, Hime, Seiji, Ribbon, Blue, and lncluding villains as well.
The funniest part in the beginning of the series was how Megumi was lacking the mentality of secrecy.
I did not want to insult Megumi, but I think this wording still counts as an insult.
Really, it was that fast for Seiji to know these secret identities of Precure warriors.
Though in Happiness Charge, I was surprised that Precure's existence is already known around the world.

Strangly, the reason I started to watch Happiness Charge was because of its show's title and its Seiyuu Han Megumi.
This Han Megumi, she played a role as a main character named Chiari in a series named Jewelpet Happiness which I also loved to watch.
This "Happiness", was the one that it led me to take interest in watch Happiness Charge Precure first before other Precure series.
And it was a pure coincidence to me that this same Han Megumi also voiced a main character named Hime in this series and it wasn't as main character named Aino Megumi.

So this Doremi series was also from the same company that made Precure, that I didn't know.
Who knew Precure is still ongoing.
There are just too many Precure series to watch, so i m not going to watch this in years of aired order.
I'll finish Happiness Charge first.

Suite is one of my favorites as well, no matter what the critics might say. Hibiki looks like Asuka from Evangelion. And the main villain is voiced by Ryuusei Nakao - at the final episodes, it's like I'm watching a version of DBZ with precure characters. And hey, they still sold a lot of toys even with the forced plot change.

Also glad that my other favorite series, Dokidoki still did pretty well on sales.. despite getting a lot of hate from the western community. Well, ev en if precure is in decline.. according to the guy who gave me the chart... Precure remains as Toei's second largest cash cow in terms of toy sales. It is exceeded only by One Piece. So I guess, we can still expect Toei to keep making precure for years to come.

Not yet watched the latest episode of Hugtto... so no comment on that for now.

Hmm, the futari wa cures + hugtto cures.. that would be interesting.

Watched episode 7:

Hana really got a lot of energy... no shame in barging into an audition room to help Saaya. Laughed at the cuteness deficiency syndrome joke. Also laughed at the "leek". I think Ranze should be glad, not everyone can appear on TV... even as a leek.

Surprised that Lulu is the one who came this week ... I thought the woman with the taxi would need to be defeated a few more times before another villain would come. 99% win turned to a lose... I guess Lulu got a bit angry there.. even if precure girls have 1% chance, they win.

Watched episode 8:

Oh, so it's a Homare episode this time. Homare childhood friend looks like someone from Yuri on Ice. This episode feels heavy with drama.. it's a serious decision in life to pursue a career or just keep having fun times with friends.

This sort of episode is not uncommon in Precure, although I believe most of the time it comes up later in the season.

Henri seems like a jerk, though. He shows up and insults Homare's friends, saying they're holding her back, without bothering to learn anything about them and how they relate to Homare. Far from holding her back, they've been helping her heal. Without them she wouldn't have come as far as she has.

Sigh. Why'd he have to stick around? I don't need males in my Precure series. Especially arrogant pricks who smile all the time.

Probably personal prerference I have no problem with Henri sticking around.
The two that I can't tolerate are Coco who hurt my ears everytime he talked in Precure 5 and that karate guy in Happiness Charge.

To me, it will be boring without males.
Not that im actually watching the series yet.
I finished watching Happiness Charge, and its movie.
To think Seiji actually known not only two but three of the females when they were little and these three became Precure.
Two of them were Seiji's childhood friend, one of them learned karate with him since childhood.
I mean he even helped the girls to become stronger Precures, though just taking care of their well being, and even became a threatening enemy for a short time right before the final boss.
And there is Hime, i think she may have been falling in love with him for real as a possibility.

Im watching Fresh Precure these days.
I finished watching most of the All Star movies.
The one on Heartcatch Precure, Cure Marine, just what in the world is she?

I may not watch Huggto for a long time, not before finishing other Precures first.

Coco's voice was irritating when he was in mascot form for sure, however I just sort of... mostly hoped he wouldn't talk. If you want a character that I truly couldn't stand, it was Syrop from Yes Precure 5 GoGo.

Fresh is a good one, although I admit I have a fondness for almost all the ones where
Spoiler:
I think Fresh Precure did one of the best jobs of presenting that sort of plotline.

The biggest downside to Fresh (in my opinion) is that the music is so... so... 80s. The girls get all excited about this music and eager to dance to it, but as soon as it starts playing it just makes me think of something middle-aged women would have playing in an aerobics class. Compared to Heartcatch and Suite, which have some of the most amazing soundtracks out of all the Precure series, Fresh is really weak in the music department.

I still like it, though.

Even though I didn't watch all Precure series, so far Tart is my number 1 fairy.
Tart is the only fairy that is kind of different compared to other fairies because most of other fairies look like babies and some of them are actually babies.
No, fairies like Nuts and Milky doesn't count because I'm not talking about the human and Precure versions of it.

Watch Suite Precure. The fairies are cats.

Also it's my favorite Precure series.

I have no problem with guys being in a precure series. Have already said that I am ok with Henri sticking around in Hugtto. Watched all cure series.. and the most likeable guys for me are Westar and Soular, they have good character development - won't say much more, since that would be spoilers.

About Happiness Charge.. it was supposed to be special, since it's the 10 anniversary of precure. So Toei hires the guy who did Heartcatch.. obviously they hope to emulate the success of Heartcatch... but unfortunately... Happiness Charge blew up in their faces with massive drop in sales - you can check the graph I posted. As for the story, some of the people I know disliked it because the focus of the series should be on the cures, and not on the boy (Seiji). And putting it in spoiler in case you haven't finished Happiness Charge
Spoiler:

Didn't know that there are people who dislike roppu.
What did you dislike him for.. the voice or the things he did in the show?

Coco and Nuts, using high-pitched voices, that is just too far.
I mean also saying out their names everytime they ends their own sentence with those high pitched voices, that is really tiring.
Fairies like Tart and Ribbon just have some accent.

Like i said i finished Happiness Charge, so no need to spoiler tag.
Blue, yes he is just for looks.
I mean Red and Blue are siblings and has same kind mirror power and yet Blue does not fight.
Too bad he was just beautifully handsome man and may have only look like he was doing something.
Some people are disappointed with Phantom too, becoming Phan Phan fairy, but no surprising because he once transformed into Unlovely once, that was what is surprising.

So finally catched up on that one.
The Cures look like they're from 3 differents shows and they mixed them up for no reason.

I mean, I really like the characters so far, but design wise I don't get the team vibes I had from previous shows.
Also : that kyuuuuu in each transformation is pretty annoying IMO. -_-

Also, it seems we got two others cures during the show :
Spoiler for New cures:
