Speaking of love field, does it develop? Or is it "I know that I do deep down but I can't/won't admit to it" lingo?

I don't need details, just hoping that there's actual depth/progression to it. A yes or no will suffice.

The new girl in town is introduced, there's the initial inside info about her personal life, what will embarrass her most, her envy against Karin is established, and she just wants to outperform her.

If not for the length, "Being a Vampire is so Embarrassing" might have been more.... accurate as a title. Ah well, we're stuck with it. I also suspect whomever was in charge of the first printing jacket has gotten troutslapped at this point

Generally books don't get a second printing until quite a long time after the first printing (they try to print as many as they will need the first time, subsequent printings are less profitable). I doubt there has even been a second printing yet.

Time to update this nearly forgotten thread. Volume nine came out yesterday just five months later after the previous tankoubon.

There are quite a couple of surprises prepared for the readers in this volume.

Scheduled for release on December 12th. TokyoPoP will be releasing one volume of Chibi Vampire every four months so as to give time for the manga releases to go further ahead.

So, today being the last Friday of the month I received my new copy of Previews. (For those who don't know, Previews is like a giant catalogue comic stores get that shows soliciations of material coming out two months in advance). Rarely does much surprise me in the Previews (I usually have my manga purchases mapped out three or four months in advance and I even usually have US comics planned two or so months in advance. Today I was looking through the Tokyopop section, and guess what I found?

That's right the Chibi Vampire novel vol 1, coming in December! The Amazon link (though it doesn't have cover art). I imagine it'll be in the Love Hina novel style dress (similar to a manga) as opposed to the Scrapped Princess style (more like a novel).

Hey, that's really great! I'll definitely check it out. To be honest, I've never been that big on reading novels, but light novels catch my interest especially since I already have a sense of the characters. And from the way it's spoken of in the manga omakes, and so on, it sounds like it'll bring something unique and a bit different to the table, which is always fun. So, great news; I'm looking forward to it.

Interesting the manga variant of this story versus what happened with the anime.

I saw one and two yesterday in the Barnes & Noble near where I work and
had to take a look, it is done pretty well from what I can tell and YES, as
another poster noted - there's a LOT of ink (this is a series where the black
ink/white paper format works exceedingly well from a artistic viewpoint).

The variations of the story will make for more interesting possibilities.

Oh, and for those much farther along in the manga: do we get a bit
more about Usui and Fumio's earlier life?

Pretty nice summary, Shinji103.

This volume consists of chapters 40 to 42 plus two side-stories; one of which tells how the vampires reached Japan.

But I got some questions.

Are you talking about his "getting old I am" entry?

I thought there was some subtle "wtf?" in his remarks about the overseas title translation of his manga. He's grateful that foreign fans like his work but .... "chibi vampire"???

I should write him and tell him that his American fans are quite aware of what the title *should* be and we're annoyed about the change.

I thought the mangaka was female—Yuna is a girl’s name isn’t it?

Normally, yes, Yuna is a girl's name...but japanese script doesn't often illuminate the sex of the author and frankly I rarely check or care since "everyone's a dog on the Internet"(tm). I'll take your word for it that the mangaka's female until I see a picture otherwise

Spoiler: Chapter 36 ~Confession~: Valentine's Day is approaching or has come. Karin and Kenta spend the late afternoon and early night at a fair, unnoticed by both that Anju's spying upon them. Meanwhile, Karin's trying to gather strength to tell something important to Kenta. Chapter 37 ~Beginners~: The new girl will do anything to settle the score on Karin, proving that she's more capable. Interestingly, she has caught vibes from Anju's spy bat. On a bad timing, she busts Karin and Kenta apparently hugging but, in fact, Karin's blood is increasing so Kenta was covering her up. Unfortunately, Karin can no longer hold it back and nosebleeds on the new girl. Chapter 38 ~Scheme~: Anju reported to Henry that Karin's nosebleed secret was accidentally found out by the new girl. So as to take safety caution, they prepare to erase her memory only to find out an astonishing discovery....... I had my suspicions about the new girl character through careful observation of her introvert nature, her solitude, and her fashion sense only to be surprised that Yuna-sama revealed she's also a vampire. I'm not sure if she's a full-fledged vampire, a blood-maker like Karin, a daywalker, or maybe even a dhampir though. Chapter 39 ~Identity~: The Maaka family quickly take action and kidnap said girl only to have her batcuffed and jailed in their manor. The family does the impossible to prevent Karin from finding out that they're keeping that girl as hostage. A malicious and naughty storm brews around the Maaka family as a another new character makes his entrance. Cover for volume three. Scheduled for release on December 12th. Spoiler: I was hoping that the anime (or perhaps the manga) would discuss a bit more of Usui-kun's background and if his father had his eyes too! Spoiler for Volume 10: Well, some serious shit hits the fan here. Elda wakes back up (Vampy bitch from hell, man) breaks up a...okay, a seriously stretched out wait moment, which would have preceeded a KarinxKenta kiss had Elda given them the freaking chance (all right, she did give them three minutes to kiss and they just stood there in the position blushing at each other... )...finds out about Yuriya...and then, well, proceeds to literally beat the crap out of aforementioned half-Vampire. (damn, that was brutal) Elda then reveals (if I'm translating this right, I'm pretty sure I am, but just for some crash-cushioning...) that a child born form a Vampire and human can't reproduce. On that part, I don't know if that will apply to Karin, because she's not exactly the norm in Vampires. Oh, and Elda finds out that Karin isn't a normal Vampire. Joy. Elda also reveals that Karin's being different may have some connection to Calela's ancestor Cecillia, thus Calela heads off to make a family visit to check up on this. On the bright side , Karin and Yuriya are actually laying down a friendship. At the end of the volume, we're treated to a nice flashback chapter about how Elda and James first met and how they came to Japan. They ran away from Europe with the other Vampires to escape from Vampire hunters, an offshoot of all the witch hunting going around. (god, I hate witch hunters ) James had saved Elda from the hunters, who had already wiped out Elda's entire family, thus making Elda the only survivor of the Marker family. On the boat, Elda meet Cecillia, who seems to be unique in some way as hinted by a comment James made. Anyway, once they hit Japan they all scatter. (great, they get their asses whooped in Europe and are probably down to half number, and they split themselves up even further to the ends of the country...well, it obviously worked out in the end, so no worries I guess ) All said and done, James gets the girl (Elda). __________________
