Episode 14 deals with the nature of the simoun; whether is a holy object or just a machine. Wapourif has to make a tough decision. Here's my quick summary. I'll add more detail tomorrow.

How do they do it? Another great, deep, emotional episode. Very little happened, you might say, but what did went straight to my heart. wrex's summary is right on.

Spoiler for ep14:

Dominura is revealed even more as being deeper and better than she seems. Yun grows even further. The relationship between Waporif and Morinas is portrayed so perfectly, with just the right amount of sensuality and sentiment. The combination of the kiss and the tears and the statement that simoun are just machines is amazing. The mystery of the simoun deepens. We are reaching the point a lot of us predicted, when they have to deal with the knowledge that these are really machines...or are they? The ending, with Dominura's deep reaction, was a great kind of cliffhanger.

Oh, wait. I guess a lot did happen after all. Have I mentioned before how wonderful I think this show is?

People thought that there was an indication Amuria was still alive. Some people thought that the "death flag" was up for Yun. Others that it was for Dominura. People thought Dominura might have seen the dead Amuria in there. At least she saw something only sibylla can see. Maybe the rings are or contain the souls of dead sibylla. (I myself think she may have cried because there was nothing in there but the rings, and she was betting her life and her country on there being more. I think there is "more" but it is immaterial and invisible, a field generated between the two rings and with the participation of the sibylla. But we'll see.) People said how moe Domi-nee was. People said how cute Mamina was with her hair down. People said that Morninas was lying when she said she was going to become a man. (I think not. I think she wants to be a simoun mechanic, and be with Waporif.) One person said the plot was evolving like the spiral of a helical motoris. People said how cute Limone was asleep. People saod how good the drawing (sakuga) was, and hoped it would stay this good.

14 was another great episode.
How can they cover our reality to such a deep level on the basis of that unrealistic setting and stuff?

Wapourif's resist to Dominura's order was reasonable.
As he said everyone knows Simoun is just a machine but it has had its function as an object of people's faith.
Can't we think this situation pull something from our own life? : religion, national identity, ideology, and what not.

Wapourif's hesitancy and its resolution seem to have double meaning.
His respect to sibylla was also threatened by his feelings to Morinas.
"But I might defile the sacred thing."
When he said he didn't have in mind only Simoun but Morinas, too.
The kiss and tear was touching and symbolic.

He finally subdued his reason to urgent need, but was it right?
In ep 1, Noto solider said before his death, "But.. if Simoun is God's flying machine.."
Morinas, who, at first suggested, "why don't you dismantle Simoun," now says she came to believe Simoun is God's flying machine.
Captain of Messis says Emerald's Ri-Maajon should be backed by belief in Simoun.
He sacrificed a lot for the decision, but would it pay after all?

Well, It seems we got to have many things to know from now on...

I don't know if I like the ending image of Wapourif standing in that phallic-shaped shadow, LOL.

Rooting for Morinas and Wapourif so badly it's hard to see anything else, though enough filtered in for me to realize that -- wow, the need to believe in a god, or the conviction that there isn't one and then to see that there is, those are powerful emotions.

I was just flipping through episode 3 yesterday, where Wapourif and Morinas first met. There was much exposition on the specifications of the Simoun craft in that episode, with Wapourif saying they don't know much about the Simoun, and this is repeated and developed in this ep. As is the relationship between (Floe,) Wapourif and Morinas. I like the coherence.

Simoun is surprising me so far. Someone recommended it and I downloaded it on a whim, and almost threw it out when I saw that not only was it mecha it was yuri mecha; two genres which more often than not, produce shows that really fucking suck. Since the subs are pretty far behind the raws, I can only hope it stays as good and doesn't degenerate into something that was plainly created just to feature cute girls kissing.

How hard it must be for the fansubbers, translating all those irregular words. Thanks Doremi.

Wapourif is a gal ^_~ and she may not have been able to see what Dominuura had seen because she was not a sibylla; in other words, only priestesses can see that which is sacred.

No, Wapourif is a guy. The "-f" always indicates masculinity, and there was on-screen dialogue back in episode 3 establishing that he had chosen to be male when he went to the Spring two years ago. He only went two years ago, however, and whatever process turns people male hasn't had time to fully complete yet for him, which is why his breasts haven't been completely reabsorbed. (They must have been quite large to begin with.)

No, that girl is not Wapourif, its a different person (forget her name now), but I don't think she's (now he) featured any longer. Whereas Wapourif the maintenance manager has been around for some time.

And Dominura certainly knows a hell of a LOT more than other peeps on Chor Tempest, even the squadron leaders, so I don't know if anything she does or notices is actually 'revelation'....not gotten to ep14 yet by the way, so I may still be ignorant.

Perhaps the "someone" was right there in Aaeru's Simoun? If what Dominura saw was an avatar of Tempus Spatium, for instance, Aaeru could be detecting that her Simoun was sad, too -- which is perfectly reasonable since there's a mental link between sibylla and Simoun that makes the Simoun fly.

I haven't had a chance to see 14 yet; I'll have to wait until I get home from work.

the girl is erif (ep02) but warpourif did explain to morinas that he had gone to spring 2yrs ago (and become male) in the ep where morinas arrived and join the fleet.

The difficulty is all on the viewers, unfortunately; being subjected to inconsistent translations and all. I'm inclined to believe that the terminology established outside our releases is more accurate, but I don't mind either way.

Doremi's Sim05 will be out soon; things should pick up due to our recent resource allocation.

It's actually not hard -- the technical jargon sticks out of the dialogue like a sore thumb. And coming up with the correct translation for the jargon itself is easier than you'd think, because it's mostly Latin, with a smattering of Greek and French. On top of that, there's a lot of supplementary information available out there: the official website, the staff blog, the Wikipedia article, this forum, and other places. Trying to approach this series like any other fansub, just by listening to the dialogue, would be difficult, but fortunately, we don't have to do that.

Once you understand what all of the jargon means and how it fits together, it's logically self-consistent, and easy to use. In our sub, we're trying to do as good a job as we can of explaining all this to the viewer through the dialogue, and we hope that after a few episodes, it'll seem logical to the viewers, too.

Spoiler for Aaeru, Dominura, etc., in ep14:

Dominura might have seen nothing and been so upset because she expected to be able to see something that would enable them to reverse engineer things and maintain Simulacrum's technological advantage. Maybe she saw nothing and the horror of the sacrilege she had ordered was revealed to her. But probably she saw something only sibylla could see: the souls of the dead, the Tempuspatium really there, or something else. As a 2channel poster said, this episode had ero and horror elements. Now I want one or two of the other sibylla to see it, whatever it is. I think only Aaeru, Yun, and Mamina could take it, though. Will Morinas and Waporif go over there and look?

2channelers are posting joke pics of what they think she saw. Like a pic of a politician (I think), or of a geeky male student, or this, or this.

I thought that Aaeru hearing the cry showed her sensitivity, like Amuria or Neviril standing in the open cockpit sniffing the air. But it could have been her hearing something from Tempuspatium, from a link among the helical motores, or else from Neviril....
