Yusaku managed to capture the mysterious lifeform as he chases after the Knights of Hanoi. In order to defeat them, he logs into the VR Space network, Link VRAINS, as Playmaker. He commenced a Duel, holding the lifeform as a hostage. However, the lifeform predicted that “Yusaku can’t win with his deck,” and performed a certain action…

It's also been confirmed that Vrains will have their own unique duels.

An interview with Director Hosoda and Yoshida Shin of Series Direction confirms a few items.

The Speed Duel Format in the show will be similar to Riding Duels in 5D’s, but it also includes an up and down format besides just going straight forward, using your D-Board.

As well, there will be Duels in which Duelists stand on the ground, that will be referred to as Master Duels, that will run on the normal rules.

The series is based in a world roughly 10 years from now where a massive Virtual Reality Network called LINK VRAINS has been established. It’s a suspense thriller style story where Yusaku fights in order to learn the truth of events in the past.

While Yusaku gets his hands on an AI due to certain events, he fights the mysterious hackers called the “Knights of Hanoi” who are trying to get their hands on it as well.

Duels will basically only be done in the Virtual Reality Network, and while Yusaku’s daily High School Life will factor into things, Yusaku doesn’t Duel while at School.

Specter
A member of the Knights of Hanoi, he serves as Revolver’s right hand man. He calmly analyzes and reports the goings-on of events in LINK VRAINS.


Bessho, Ema
A mysterious woman. Based on the clothes she wears, it appears she Duels inside LINK VRAINS.


Zaizen, Akira
The Security Chief of SOL Technology Inc. and Aoi’s older brother. He has a workaholic personality, and doesn’t seem to care much about Aoi.


Shima, Naoki
Yusaku’s classmate. Although he heavily enjoys Dueling, he’s not very confident in his ability to Duel online in LINK VRAINS. He’s a fan of Playmaker.


Zaizen, Aoi
A classmate of Yusaku’s, but remains in the dark as to Yusaku’s True Identity. Online in LINK VRAINS, she goes by the alias “Blue Angel”, a popular Charisma Duelist.
• She has a Brother Complex.
• She wants to admit to her brother that she Duels.


Onizuka, Go
A Duelist who goes by “Go Onizuka” inside LINK VRAINS. Although he’s extremely popular due to his exciting Duels, he’s also known for his friendly and kind-hearted side in the Real World. He’s interested in the person known as “Playmaker”.
• He looks the same in real life and online.
• He holds the title of the strongest Duelist inside LINK VRAINS
• He’s popular even offline.

This is gonna be a good show. I skipped out on ARC-V because the previews looked damn ridiculous. This looks like it's gonna be fun.

i'd buy that but it feels as though unlike some of the others it needed this bit of setup.

I understand and i agree. By the way people have referenced his shitty disguise so many times. I can almost see how the next episode goes. Homeboy goes all out and wins and then returns to school like nothing happens. Only to be approached by Blue Angel's offline person Aoi and she confronts him. That would be an anime idea if ever there was one.

Interesting first episode. I'm liking Yusaku's voice.

So the crux of the story is that these Knights of Hanoi are trying to commit genocide against the "Cyverse", a civilization of electronic lifeforms. And SOL Technologies wants to commercialize Cyverse's resources. And Yusaku is an independent operator fighting for order in Link VRAINS. Cool!

I'm not complaining. If anything a show like this will have plenty of dueling later on.

I got to say, I like how proactive Yusaku is compared to past protagonists. A good example is that he actually sought out the mysterious being this time, instead of just stumbling upon it.

If we're talking about shitty covers, a teen customer suddenly running into and closing down a hot dog truck in broad daylight, then later rushing out into a public square and yelling about capturing an alien life form while waving his dueling device around, and then talking to it loudly with his accomplice is not conspicuous at all... But this is a yu-gi-oh series, so it's forgiven.

I'm impressed by the first episode. The show has a mature feel to it and Yusaku seems like a decent protagonist so far (hope we learn more about his character as the season progresses). I guess they introduced they antagonists already? I feel like the first episode kinda dropped us in the middle of the story but so far has a lot of my interest.

I'm also pretty curious to see the duels soon and their mechanics (anime wise anyway) especially for the new monsters.

i gonna say whenever they said "vrains" in anime i was starting to remember "plants vs zombies" where the zombies keep saying "brains", that name really sound anwfull they could have choose something better.

watched first episode but it's too early to really say something for a yu-gi-oh serie, but so far look "good".

I'm fairly sure that VRAINS is a play on the word brains in the first place.
