I'd have preferred "Hayama's dish was better"...
It's not like I couldn't come up with explanations why, starting with the fact that Hayama only had to burn the dish at the last minute to have a finished, appetizing product, while Souma apparently needed the judges to eat a whole bowl of rice. |

I was pumping my fist like "Hell yeah, that's Soma!" Hayama is known for and has been tediously crafted in this show as a spice-master...In the final event he went against form because of that criticism. As delectable and amazing as his dish must have been how was that a reflection of his true individuality and originality as a chef? Moreso than Soma, that is? Hayama served a once-spiced, raw fish with sake and soy sauce and heated it up...Now he did it fine dining style and all that...But when you close your eyes do you imagine that dish as a reflection of Hayama, the SPICE-MASTER? Your may argue back: "But he proved he's more than that?", But that's not what the judges argued... Soma's dish IMO was the chef specialty and a true representation of his individuality...Of what we have seen him progress to be. The duel-aspect of his dish...the creative steps he took to achieve on par flavor while not serving a fresher fish...Who puts that dish on the menu, but Soma? You can order raw fish on a plate all day, who has pickled bran rice saucery soy milk soup?, lol.... If Ryo and Hayama only beat Soma in ingredient selection, that has to be nullified by taste, which is what bare-chest sama said based on Soma being equal in flavor... The judges explanation is what makes Hayama's win fall short to me...Not that he isn't deserving based on his body of work, but we should be giving Soma his props right now...

I'd say the only thing people have is that Hayama poured all of his effort in this one dish...but that's like saying that the other two didn't work just as hard. |

So when it came down to it, what was the general consensus when the judges ate his food? That he got around the taste of inferior ingredients by making other ingredients work their magic? It's something any chef could have done, something like what got Mimasaka kicked out of his dad's place because he pretty much did something similar. Think about it another way, if Soma had just as good fish as Hayama and Ryo, what would he have made? Something better or equal? To us the viewers, yeah Soma did something incredible. But to the judges, it was just another tasty dish, according to the judges first assessment of all 3. "Picturing the chef in your mind" is actually important, according to Dojima, who call's it a sign of respect to the chefs. So it's not really weird for an academy that sports chefs such as Meat Master Nikumi, The Italian Aldini, The Chemicalist Alice, etc. Though I have to admit, I don't know what the whole picturing a chef in my mind thing is like. People ask "Who cooked this spaghetti?" when I cook it, so.... |

Episode 11:
Decent episode. I really liked the Hisako and Souma chemistry for some reason when they were working together. It seems she's not as cold as before towards him this episode either. Also, I think Megumi's skills are really underrated. Glad to see that she shows more of her talent even if it's just a little. While all this is happening, I think the arc is doing its job by showcasing its most prominent characters and ability to work while under stress.

It was very rushed but I did enjoy how souma somehow not only changed the restaurant but hisako as well. Nice!
And he's not going to France! I thought Shino's was in Paris but it looks like there's a new branch that's opened in Tokyo or wherever they are in Japan.

Episode 11
Soma's stagiare partner is Hisako and they're sent to a small restaurant which I'd now getting tons of customers and is finding it difficult to make it through. Soma and Hisako bring the restaurant back up. Soma especially because of his experience at the Yukihira diner which also got tons of customers because of his dad's cooking. Lol this was a bit like Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares where he fixes restaurants going down. The restaurant people here were also reluctant to make the changes Hisako and Soma suggested because it changed what they've being doing all this time. But they accept the proposal put forward by Soma and as a result they get their old customers back who couldn't come in because it was always filled. Nice to see more Hisako here. She was first pissed at how things turned out because she hated Soma because Erina hated him. But she starts to see that this guy really has talent and he's not as bad as Erina thinks he is. He even gives her the advice of trying to become someone who can stand beside Erina instead of standing behind her. Her original mentality greatly restricted her because she would always look at herself as inferior to Erina and wouldn't try to get better. Erina also wanted Hisako beside her and not behind her and this decision by Hisako would please her. And Megumi is with Erina and the latter can't stop being an arrogant bitch lol. She pisses off the restaurant owner by taking over his kitchen in a flash. And to make matters worse, the timid little girl who was washing the dishes also comes up with suggestions of her own lol. All this helps his restaurant get better so he can't really complain, but he still doesn't like that is kitchen has been snatched from him. I wonder how Erina would have managed if she had been sent to a smaller restaurant like Soma was. There aren't many people in big restaurants like the one she was sent to so things are easier there. She probably wouldn't have coped well if there were streams of orders coming in every second. Megumi could have coped better then because she has worked in the professional kitchen unlike Erina who feels insulted just by being asked to wash dishes. Now it looks like Soma will be dropping by at Shino's. Should be good to see him working together with a successful chef who is only getting better and better. If Soma has to leave an impression there it's gonna be difficult. Well, that's assuming Soma goes to Shino's and it isn't someone else he's waiting for. They should really show how Hayama and Ryo are handling things on their ends. Ryo would only be having problems getting along with the staff. He has restaurant experience so that shouldn't be a problem. |

It was rushed as hell, but overall it is watchable. At least all the main plot point was presented in this episode.
Hisako never a stood chance against Soma. Soma was completely outclassed her at everything and this realization hits her HARD. Good thing that she opened herself to Soma in the end. |
