The main point is, the best thing to do is always to watch it and decide for yourself. You may love it or hate it, but make it a judgment based on your own experience and not someone else's bias.

You can't really say these are two different entities since Ao is supposed to be the sequel to E7. Objectively speaking, i have to admit that, even at worst, Ao by itself was still a decent series. However, when looking at it as a sequel, as the continuation of eureka and renton's story, is where you'll find the many reasons why I and so many fans of E7 hated Ao. No matter how well done Ao was, if you make the original ending pointless, the bad guy right, and subvert all the themes and plot points that made people love E7, well you're going to piss off at least half the fanbase at best, and make them wish Ao was never made. E7 will always remain great, but if Ao is supposed to be the canon sequel, well rather than saying Ao ruined E7, it would be more accurate to say that, for me at least, it ruined my enjoyment and memories of E7. >Ao by itself was still a decent series Sorry, but I guess this is were we won't agree anyway. Even if I were to forget about production quality - Ao was plain fucking stupid. Little to no backstory of the world, no backstory for characters, little interaction between them etc. Main cast plus some statists is all Ao could provide. This is not even close to "decent". And this is one I can't even compare it to E7 or shows of the same caliber (in case we decide to forget that E7 ever existed to be more objective about Ao).

EDIT: Sorry, I wasn't trying to argue against you specifically, but rather I was just trying to explain why I recommend that someone shouldn't watch Ao. Last edited by coded321; 2017-05-21 at 23:00. |

^Which is why I was so cautious. I was not going to watch it until I saw some opinions. Then I decided it was in my best interest to not ruin my memories of the original in any manner. Not exactly an approach I've taken to much of anything ever but E7 is special.

For any of you who's watched Ao or anyone who doesn't want to see it but still wants something of a sequel to E7, there's this fanfiction series, by username Ken-Goh, that was started in 2007. First chapter titled Out of the Nest, its a direct sequel to E7. Not only is it very well written and thought out, it does not subvert any themes or plot points from E7 and the author does not make any significant changes to the cast or original plot. If Ao had been anything even remotely close to this fanfiction, i would not have hated Ao as much as I do now. Last edited by coded321; 2017-05-21 at 23:27. |

^Sorry Enzo, my posts are in part, just me venting about what I felt Ao did to E7. I thought i wrote this in my earlier post but i'll just write it again. While I don't recommend E7 fans to watch Ao, if you don't care about that at all or just want to keep an open mind, go ahead if you still want to watch Ao, its not like I can stop you. Personally, if i never kept an open mind, I would have missed out on a lot of great animes like kill la kill or attack on titan. However, if you were to ask which animes i wished i never watched, the only one on that list would be Ao. If Ao had been an original series and E7 never existed, then I wouldn't be ranting like this.
My dislike of Ao was purely because of what i felt it did to E7. By itself, I did not love nor hate Ao, i just considered it as a decent anime. Basically, for me, it was a decent anime, but a horrible sequel. My only hope for the film series is that it makes Ao non-canon. If that happens, well I would have no reason to keep recommending fans to not watch Ao. |

i tried to re watch the original after ao but the whole way through i started to think that their relationship was pointless, it was like being in a sound proof box knowing somthing bad will become of this but i coulnt change it lol...sounds wierd i know but
(spoiler) knowing what happens to their first kid and seeing them change and abandon their ideals, renton willing to just leave eureka like that drove the final nail into the coffin for me, it just ruined it :/ |
