In the manga, Elsee was a bit too "chibi/SD"-ed, which doesn't really give her any weight in term of characterization. Of course, being limited with panels, characterization in a manga is more challenging, but compared to Keima, Elsee never felt that close to something else than a mere "moe blob" and helpless brat in the manga. Meanwhile, I think the change of design, the animation and the subtle difference in her reactions makes her more devoted. Well it is hard to explain, talk about a vague opinion of mine. tl;dr: elsee is vastly improved in the anime.

Just as there are good and bad humans, there are also good and bad demons, and she's simply a good demon. Most likely a lot older than 300 years... at least around 1000 years or somesuch, so those 300 years cleaning don't bother her much. I wonder what she did to get 300 years cleaning as a punsihment?

From what I understand, Keima actually found the food to be rather acceptable. As in, taste.
He doesn't have reason to praise her as a lie if it really tasted bad, because then his reaction from before would have remained. Now for the digesting, I think his stomache was going through a Resident Evil: Extinction. It doesn't matter but I would like to think that she is not 1000 years, I hope it to still be a 3-digits number.lol I don't know why though. Also, more than punishment, it's more like she is simply bad at everything she does so instead of bringing trouble to anyone, she was supposed to not get in the way and just do the dirty work. Though even at the cleaning task does she stay clumsy. XD

Watch the prologue and episode 2. Elsie was never punished. She just got promoted from cleaner to spirit hunter. The reason she was happy of being a spirit hunter was because she can finally follow in her older sister footsteps.

I agree that Elsie in the anime its a lot cuter that in the manga, in the last one she's only portrayed in numerous Chibi drawings, so in this case instead as a protagonist its more like she's only a side character, its like another guy said here that the change of art direction went good for her, she got an upgrade when making the conversion to anime.
