Got list, need recommendations

Im have run out of shows to watch, I thought I could show a list of what I have watched and ask for some recommendations.
I have some mixed taste, cant say a particular gengre. Guess drama (KGNE), dark (mnemosyne) some romance, but also ligth hearted stuff (kamen no maid).
I have just been at a loss at what to watch after finishing cowboy bebop.

Not that into fanservice shows, harem makes me depressed and while I have tried watching mecha I cant maintain interest.

So any great shows I have missed?

Series Im following this season:
K-on

Shows I liked lots
Cowboy bebop (the music was fantastic)
KGNE
Haibane Renmei
Planetes
Clannad

Anime movies:
Princess monoke
Paprika
Millenium actress
Earthsea

Other shows I have watched:
Claymore (great but the ending annoyed me)
Blue drop
Strawberry panic
hyate the combat butler
Mnemosyne
Karin (was fun to watch)
pale cocoon
air tv (I have trouble with the character design, the eyes where just to big, story was great though)
Kanon 2006
Allison to Lillia
elfen lied (havent finished it yet)
blood+ (lost interest after a few shows)
e-f a tale of memories (havent finished it)
edit
-----
Spice and wolf
chobits
DearS
pumpkin scissors

Haruhi
Lucky star
Gantz (not my thing, but watched it anyways)

Dark with romance - 3x3 Eyes (aka Sazan Eyes)

Action - R.O.D (Read or Die both OVA and TV series were good)

Drama - Millennium Actress (movie)

Those are some old series, unless you wanted more recent series.

I have no problem with older stuff, as long as it has a good story I can watch it.
(need to be able to find it though)
Anime movies should be ok no matter how old they are, I mean snow white was made 1937 (not a anime but you get my point)

Anyways, thanks for the suggestions.

Gungrave is an amazing choice for drama/action/dark themed. It focuses a lot on comradeship and loyalty, and every character, be it heroes or villains, are believable and developed.

For some more lighthearted stuff, School Rumble and Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) are some of the finest choices. They're hilarious comedies with great atmospheres.

Berserk is another gem, it's dark and gory, some people liken it to Claymore, though I'm not sure I agree, it's definitely not to be missed.

i second gungrave, one of the best examples of story telling if have seen in anime (if you discount the first episode of just shoot 'em up action). For lighthearted stuff, you may want to try chobits, a romantic comedy. Darker than Black is also a good serious show with some great character development.

mmm maybe try H20: Footprints in the sand it has sure has drama, romance and light hearted but it may not be so much in the 'dark' department and Wind-A breath of heart its pretty shot with 12 ep (i think) which goes for about 12 mins each, it has basically the same so long with the genre goes, also try to finish elfen lied and ef-a tale of memories both are really great.

Ehh...
But I can second finishing ef and Elfen Lied.

I'll second Serial Experiments Lain if you want an anime that makes you think.
You might want to try out True Tears, it's a romance/drama with a harem that cuts down to a love triangle, but it's much lighter than Kimi ga Nozomu Eien.
Maybe also Kino's Journey and Shigofumi for darker series with a bit of drama.
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora is a short romance/drama you don't want to miss.
REC is another short romance that's a bit more lighthearted you'll probably enjoy.

I would say pick up Kyouran Kazoku Nikki for the current season as well. It seems like a lighthearted fun comedy, but it gets pretty dark without being overly so.

I'll focus my recommendations on those series that have a solid storyline.

Baccano - the first half is all about setting up the mysteries and asking the questions. The second half deals with the answers.

Crest of the Stars/Banner of the Stars - one of the best anime couples comes from this series. Their relationship develops against the backdrop of an epic galactic war.

Hirugashi - one the great mystery/horror series. It pretty much defined the term 'killer loli' for us.

Nana - pure drama here with some great music. Deals with some fairly adult issues.

Honey and Clover - romance, drama and comedy all wrapped into one. Very realistic, engaging with real life issues that many can resonate with. Sets in an art college in Tokyo.

Mushishi - slice of life with supernatural elements. Peaceful and melancholy, often thought provoking, exploring little gems of life. Beautiful in every aspect, whether it be animation, character, music or plot.

If you're asking for 'great shows', than I'd just say Haruhi, Lucky Star, Code Geass and Gurren Lagann.

If any hope for you to maintain interest in a mecha anime, it would be Gurren Lagann and Code Geass.

Haruhi and Lucky Star are great if you are in their target sights.

Gun X Sword.
Elfen Lied. (But I would advise that you are not that squeemish and have a taste for hardcore violence and nudity. Does have romance though, but no sex. Just a LOT of Nudity).

My obvious suggestion is the most influential anime that ever existed, Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Even if you hate it, it's something that every anime fan must watch. Its impact on anime and on its fanbase post-1995 is undeniable.

Well, liked Mnemosyne, so I have no problem watching nudity and violence.

Have been meaning to watch it, but not sure where to start, are all the anime in the evangelion franchise linked with a single story?

There is a single 26-episode series, a "recap" movie (Death & Rebirth), a "possible ending" movie (The End of Evangelion), which tries to give one possible interpretation of the two last episodes of the series, and now there's a 2-movie, 2-OVA remake in the works. The remake movies are seeing the plot substantially altered in many ways, so it's really better to watch the series first, no matter what Anno says about it being directed at a broader target. The manga by Sadamoto began serialization after the series first aired.

Be sure not to miss EoE--it's an experience unlike any other in the anime world.
