Yes they are different but Ranka's character only similar trait between series and movie is the design (I know it's not like that, I'm exaggerating). The others still hold several things from their series counterparts even with their changes, and well I liked them then and still do even with their changes, is only that I never tough I would like Ranka and the movie changed that.

Enh...everyone seems different enough to me. It's like EVERYONE has grown up a bit.

Oh, and incidentally...there's at least ONE difference between the theatrical version and the DVD/BD version:

Spoiler for difference:

That's my take on it anyway I could be wrong, it's just that I'm unable to see Sheryl as someone who would do that especially when later she saved Ranka's life in exchange for her own (well as far as she knew).
I suppose I am warming up to the idea that she had objections and just didn't state them. I might have liked it if they'd shown that more strongly through her body language and such though. Granted I notice there were a lot of cases where it seemed like they deliberately chose not to show us her reaction to something that seems like it would have provoked a strong reaction (Grace's line about watching Ranka get on stage one last time, Ranka winking at her after the delivery of the holographic Teddy Bear). What we did see in the car seemed kind of weak and she seemed awfully calm just prior to being struck with the Vajra's pain during the Dogfight of Heart bit of the concert though.

Still, I seem to be gaining some acceptance of the issue so at some point I should probably rewatch the movie and see if I can properly appreciate it.

I don't think it's so much that Sheryl wanted Ranka dead, it's more that she gave the impression of being way too accepting of the plans Galaxy had for her.

Also, I actually really liked TV Ranka right from the start. I ended up finding what happened with her disappointing on rewatchs, but I didn't really hate her. (Though I did end up developing a strong objection to the idea of her being with Alto considering what she did because of her feelings for him.)

Oh, did anyone notice that Ranka was wearing basically the exact outfit she wore in the Mihoshi rooftop scene on the hospital rooftop in this movie? I have the feeling that was a very deliberate choice (and not just because it allowed the reuse of a brief clip of Ranka running up stairs from the TV series).

A plan that most of her fans here would be all too happy to see played out, yes?

This absolves her of being involved in the long term planning of the conspiracy, but still has her have a moral lapse for a short time ( and it really is short... basically just before, during and shortly after Rankas concert. A span of one day or so ).

I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing, as it shows that Sheryl can also undergo a moral downfall. It does help to humanize her even more, but the severity of the action she apparently consented to ( harvesting Rankas organs ) or at least didn't reject immediately, is so horrific that it may have been too much.
Likewise coming clean to stop Ranka from going to Brera and how she's willing to die for Ranka's sake when she was sucked into space.

I do like that she's conflicted, not just because of her own life, IMO, but because of Grace.

Funny though, once you notice, it stands out EVERY SINGLE TIME. The glowing scenes too. It's also interesting to consider exactly what this means for the triangle

Cool beans, didn't know that. That game was released in 1999, yeah?

And I'll just quote this to (hopefully) help ensure that it stays on record

Yep, still got it, and its prequel as well. They fill the blank between SEVEN and FRONTIER. To be honest, I liked the original name better, sounded more... er... important...
