The "steisos" is supposed to mean "embodiment" (in Japanese: 御身) and it is written in katakana as "ステイソス" (suteisos).

Well 4A's prologue uses 彼女 as a pronoun when referring to her....

I suppose that means she's a girl....?

Not in my memory, but my memory's bad. Mostly just uses ハイディ.

It was just a vague suspicion, nothing substantial; he probably has.

It's quite rare, but I found one after skimming through v1. The novel referred to Heidi as "her" in p236-237 of v1-B (the very left most line). Quite confusing since she was speaking with Mito here and the perspective is set to general, but the narration matched Heidi's action 2 lines later.

Jud.、と頷くミトツダイラの肩をハイディが軽く叩いた。彼女は急ぎ足で階段に向かい、
「ちょっと、先にそっちでやってて！」　←ハイディ
「まるでお使いですわね。―――ともあれ交代、というところでしょうか」　←ミトツダイラ

やはり紙袋を抱えたネシンバラやウルキアガ、シロジロにハイディといった面々だ。

And some other non-gender specific language earlier just gave me that idea. If it isn't, it isn't.

Oh, now I see. Yeah, 男子生徒達 can imply that Heidi is a guy.

It seems Kawakami's meticulousness had vanished in that part.

I always hate weird use of "tachi" like that.....

It's annoying to render into english even though you know it just means "that group (of person mentioned)"
