After much deliberation I decided to stop stalling and just post my next OC, which IMO has a lot of what we call in programming "bugs", left. Suffice to say I once again get the feeling that I did a really inadequate job, hardly justifying the base character. Still the best way is to see what other people think.

Description: Fel is an elf that the bureau found on Non-administrated world 117, otherwise known as Kelewan. Elves, thought to only exist is fantasy stories, were first found when an exploration team of the navy found Kelewan. Just like in fantasy stories, the elves are a race of slender looking pointy eared humanoids. Fel is a typical elf, though she a bit lacking in height and is too energetic for one from a race of quiet and demure humanoids. She has beautiful green eyes with large pupils, a pink coloured hair that is considered uncommon among elves, and a pair of pointy ears. She has a cheerful personality and is always enthusiastic, though some people are apprehensive about the things she’s enthusiastic with.Her ears tend to start twitching when she’s excited or happy, which is quite often and many people had their resistances crumble and had tried to tug at her ear to see if it’s a fake or not.

History: Born on non-administrated world 217, Kelewan, Fel belongs to a tribe of elves that practice elemental spell conjuration. The elves on that planet share their planet with various other non-human races on that planet, though not by choice but rather by birth. (Elf culture and civilization, etc covered in another write-up) Small remote elf villages have always lived in fear of the threat of trolls, and it was because of trolls that Fel came in contact with the TSAB.

The exploration team that had came to encountered Fel and her parents, the parents dying from grievous wounds though having fought off and killed pursuing trolls that had destroyed their village. A mage on the exploration who knew healing magic tried to save them but to no avail. Knowing full well that they will not survive and with no one else to turn to they entrusted Fel, who was then 11 years old, to the exploration team. Not knowing the language the team did not know what the dying elves were saying but they gathered that they were being entrusted with the young child. The exploration team however was filled with youngsters and inexperienced people who knew not how to deal with the situation, with no other option that they could think of, the child was brought aboard the TSAB exploration freighter despite the child’s protests.

Interestingly once aboard the freighter the natural curiosity of the child elf took over and banished her fears almost immediately. Fascinated by all the otherworldly technology, devices, and facilities; Fel started disturbing the various people around as well as play around with the equipments and devices on board the freighter, must to the distraught of the crew. She was taken to Midchilda and taken in by the central HQ’s facility for special children. She was there for over a year found it boring there, and the constant observation and scrutiny on her because of her heritage bothered her a lot as it made her feel like a guinea pig.

She sought a way out of the facility, and to find a place for to belong to. When she overheard some of the staff in the facility talking about a magic training academy nearby, she decided that was where she would go because she wanted to expand on her skills and knowledge on magic, which she had not being able to continue learning due to the untimely demise of her parents.

She was found to have enough magical power to control stable flight. The word flight was enough to make her decide that the air division was where she would be. Her tenure in the academy proved to be an interesting experience for the staff and instructors there, to say the least.

She graduated high in her training batch, and was ranked A class by that time. This was by the time she was 14. She was a part of the smaller air force unit in her local area on a small island off the mainland of Mid-childa, but when she got promoted to sergeant and passed the AA ranks exams more than 2 years later she got transferred to the 1039th unit on the mainland. (Current time: Post StrikerS MC076 September)

Personality/Habits and behaviour/Hobbies: Fel is a cheerful young elf with an energetic disposition. “Always smiling, overenthusiastic, overly energetic, and vertically challenged”; is what her fellow colleagues say when asked about her, to her utter dismay and annoyance. Whenever she hears anyone mentioning her height, and it happens quite often, she’ll go “boooo~~”, pouting cutely while trying to use her staff to knock the daylights out of some who take the joke too far for her liking sometimes, usually the male colleagues.

Her enthusiasm tends to get her into trouble sometimes, and she messes up a lot. Whenever this happens she’ll always exclaim “hechaaa~!” and make a face, she then tries to charm people with her girlish charms to try to get them to forget the incident. “Ehehehe~ sorry~ please forgive me, okay?” Sometimes when she gets annoyed she would go “muuukiiii!!!” and stomps her foot, then chase the person around with her staff.

She has what many people call high-tension syndrome. She’s always excited about trying new things, and is always trying out new spells or trying to invent new ones. She proclaims herself as a genius mage that invents new spells. She insists that she’s altogether cute, beautiful, and lovely, often not giving people the chance to object. Another one of her interesting quirks is how she sees her device. Her device is a staff, which she claims is her “lovely magical stick that is also useful for bonking perverts and people who comment about my height”.

Despite her unusual quirks and behaviour, she is actually a very hardworking person and trains to perfect her magic whenever she has the time. A sergeant in the air division, Fel is has a brilliant mind and is indeed an excellent mage, though her fellow colleagues wonder about calling her genius because of her flightiness.

Fighting style:
An area targeting spell caster, Fel hangs behind under the protection of the front attackers and chants her spells. Her spells are powerful, but take awhile to complete so she can’t be distracted or attacked during those times. She’s not good at evasion while flying so defence is her choice, in any case she should not need to defend herself if her team members are covering her well enough.

Aligned to lightning elemental magic, Fel sees the famous Ace Enforcer Fate T. Harlaown as her idol, and practices spells similar or the very ones Fate uses (some of which are actually taught in the training academies in Mid-childa nowadays).

Offensive spells:
Thunder Lance: Mana is form and amassed into a shaft of lightning. Fel created this spell when she read myths from a non-admin world where a God was said to be able throw lightning bolts. The spell takes the shape of a throwing lance and hurled to ground level, after the initial impact, the lightning energies surges outwards, burning and electrocuting all within the radius of the explosion. The effects of this spell include paralysing humans, short circuit mechanical constructs, and potentially shutting down systems or devices that have less reinforced structures. This spell needs a target “landing area” for the spell’s effect (lightning surging outwards on impact) to work.

Thunder Smasher: Guided shooting spell, Fel directs the spell by using her staff to aim and point at the target area. Charged with lightning properties, this spell is powerful in its own way without consuming too much mana.

Lightning Bolt: Small electricity charged magic spheres are formed and fired at the enemy in a linear fashion. Though unguided and can only be fired in one direction, because of the lightning property in the spell it is faster than other similar spells of this class.

Lightning Bolt – Genocide Shift: The same electricity charged magic spheres are formed from a large magic sigil, the number of bolts capable of going up to a level of 25 bolts. This attack emphasizes damage to a wide area for maximum coverage, thus speed is sacrificed in favour for more power.

Lightning Impulse Breaker: A high-level collection type bombardment spell. This spell requires an aria to collect atmospheric electrons, binding and coalescing them into a compressed sphere of lightning energy, its destructive power is further increased by enhancing the spell with Fel’s own mana.

Lightning Storm: Weather manipulation ceremonial spell. Similar to Fate’s Thunder Force, this spell requires an aria to be chanted repeatedly to stabilize the raw energies that comes with manipulating the weather.

Defensive spells:
Protection: A barrier spell for absorbs attacks; this barrier can be destroyed or overloaded by using an attack that exceeds the absorption threshold of the barrier. A dome shape appears over Fel and protects her. Her device can also cast it automatically if the incoming attack is detected by the device but not by Fel.

Radius: 1 meter

Round Shield: Creates a circle shaped shield, which is actually a Mid-childan magic sigil itself, to protect Fel from frontal assaults. Covers only a single direction and works by deflecting spells with an opposition force, unlike barriers that soak up damage.

Support/Boost/Mobility spells:
Flier fin: Allows Fel to soar into the skies. The spell takes the form small wings that form on her boots and her heels. However though she is an air mage, Fel isn’t good at dodging attacks, as she isn’t speedy. A believer in teamwork, Fel never operates alone so her basic flight skills are sufficient, as she trusts her comrades to cover her.

There I'm prepared for the critics, and I safely believe I won't be hearing from any haxxbusters since I removed the multiple elemental affinity. If anything I'd say she's pretty balanced, or perhaps even a tad weak. Opinions?

Oh yes I feel I must say something about the spell list before anyone says anything. Why are the spells rip offs from Fate's? Well I for one believe that its ridiculous that everyone can just come up with a new spell that actually works similar or is exactly identical to what we see is in canon and say its original. IMO what's wrong with recycling used spells/names? I'm sure its not impossible that these spells are widely taught in training academies or even by the combat trainers whenever they hold training camps.

Now if only someone can kindly point out where this there's-something-that-doesn't-fit itch is.

Very nice character. As the aria for your lightning storm spell, just take the one I've thrown out as example for C2F. I don't think he wants it (nor do I think he saw it), so you can just take it.

Here's the one I've posted before :"I call upon the raging elements, the fury of the storm. Come to me. Surround me and fill me with your power. With the shining gods at your side, surge and strike down all upon this stage amidst Heaven and Earth!"

CHAPTER 4

He opened his eyes. “Oh, I’m back at the hall,” he murmured and looked around him. “But who are these people? And why they look like knights or something?” It took the street performer a few seconds before he realized the murderous glare of a scar-riddled knight and feigned unconsciousness “I didn’t see it… I didn’t see it… I didn’t see it…”

“Reiher! Give him CPR!”

One of the people appeared behind the armoured knight. “Yes, sir!”

The dark-skinned, Afro knight did what he was told. Matilda and female Belkan knights blushed at the yaoi-bait scene. Freya and Aura were appalled. Keiko had to turn away in embarrassment.

Yutaro snapped. He kicked the Afro knight out of the way. “What… what the hell was that for?!” he screamed, hoarsely gasping for air.

“Sir! It appears this boy is alright,” the Afro knight reported.

Yutaro had recovered from the frightening experience and sat on the floor. “What the hell is really going on?” he demanded. “Who are these people, anyway?”

“Brat! You don’t know who you’re dealing with!” one of the foreign knights snarled.

“You dare questioning the Von Dietrich Clan,” his friend added and withdrew a dagger. “Shall I cut your tongue into pieces?”

A woman coughed, and immediately the two hostile knights retreated to their spot. “My apology for the complicated matters we caused,” the woman spoke. “Pleased to meet you, Wakamoto Yutaro. I am Katrina von Dietrich, and this is my husband Kaiser Erick von Dietrich, Chairperson of the von Dietrich Clan.”

Yutaro turned to the said Chairperson. Mr. Von Dietrich immediately shot him a murderous sight. “Knight? He’s more like a Yakuza to me!” Yutaro gulped.

“And the man who performed the CPR to you just now is Reiher,” Mrs. Von Dietrich continued. “Don’t worry. He just wanted to save your life.”

“It is my honour,” Reiher spoke, his Ray-Ban mysteriously sparkled.

Matilda and female Belkan knights sighed. “Reiher-san…”

“Excuse me for interrupting,” Keiko spoke. “But why is the Von Dietrich Clan suddenly here? As far as I am concerned, the last time the Belkan Knights and the Von Dietrich ever came to contact was 225 years ago during the Miranda Confrontation.”

“That is correct,” Mrs. von Dietrich replied. “We’re here for family business, actually. It appeared one of our family members had faced a very serious incident.”

“We are the honoured dragon clan,” Mr. Von Dietrich spoke. “We are strictly forbidden from revealing our true form to regular people whatever the reasons we have to face.”

“Dragon clan? So you can transform into a dragon?” Matilda asked.

“Dragon?” Yutaro remembered the time he saw Freya’s unknown form. He twitched. “Crap! Does this mean…”

Mr. von Dietrich’s reply was to withdraw his Zweihander and aimed it at Yutaro’s neck. “This brat saw my cute Freya’s identity, and he is not supposed to see it! How dare he… how dare he do THIS and THAT to my cute Freya while I wasn’t around!”

“Kaiser Erick, please calm down!” Reiher pleaded and strangled Mr. von Dietrich.

“We fiercely protect this secret for generations from the lineage of our ancestor Daniel the Great,” Mrs. Von Dietrich spoke. “The law of Von Dietrich states that anyone from this family who exposes his or her true identity to the society will be sentenced to death. I am sure Miss Galatea has explained it to all of you.”

“It’s fortunate that the Knights of Yellow Rose had agreed to keep this matter secret from the public,” Galatea spoke. “Things would have turned to worse if the people get their hands on this incident.”

“I object! Freya did that to save Yutaro’s life! What would you do if you faced the same situation as her?” Poseidon snarled.

“Then Yutaro will have to be executed as well,” Mrs. Von Dietrich said. “The secret of the dragon clan cannot and shall not be revealed to the world whatever the consequences this family have to face.”

“No way…” Poseidon chided.

“I hate to agree, but this is the law we have to abide,” Mr. Von Dietrich continued and again turned to the frightened Yutaro. “But not before I slay the brat into pieces!” he roared and tried killing the boy before Reiher strangled him.

Mrs. Von Dietrich later grinned. “But of course, we can spare his life if he agrees to become a member of this house,” she said.

“What does that suppose to mean?” Matilda said.

Mrs. Von Dietrich pointed to the ceiling. “Yutaro will have to marry Freya.”

The suggestion sent a very deep shock into everybody in the hall. Yutaro, especially, found himself shaking uncontrollably due to the suggestion. “No freaking way!”

“Married? My cute Freya marries that useless piece of flesh?” Mr. Von Dietrich growled and plunged the Zweihander into the floor. “He must step over my dead body first! Nobody is allowed to marry my cute Freya until I say he can!”

“But dear, he already knew her identity,” Mrs. Von Dietrich spoke. “If he doesn’t want to die, then he has to become her groom.”

“Never! I’ll only say yes when I SAY yes!” Mr. Von Dietrich replied.

“Papa!”

Everybody turned to Freya. “If you refuse to bless our relationship,” she said and suddenly fell onto her back. “Then just execute me!”

“But Freya, you can’t live with that maggot!” Mr. Von Dietrich replied.

“This is my life! I’m the one who decides it! Not anyone! Not even Papa!” Freya replied.

“Oneechan is right!” along came Aura’s voice as she, too, lay next to Freya. “If she has to die, then let me die with her!”

Mrs. Von Dietrich sighed. “Look at that. Father and his twin daughters. Always refuse to accept each other’s difference,” she said.

Poseidon nodded. “They’re twins, after all.”

“Freya…” Yutaro murmured.

Mr. Von Dietrich trembled. “If that bastard wants to marry my cute Freya,” he murmured and pulled out the Zweihander, “then he must prepare to accept his death! My brethrens!”

The von Dietrich knights transformed into dragons. “ROAR!!!!”

Yutaro fled the people but was stopped in the middle of the way by a dagger tossed by Reiher. He turned to the Afro knight, and was horrified as the person sported a smile that was as calm as it was threatening. “I might not know your affair with Meister Freya, but you must accept the suggestion or face the consequences,” he spoke.

Matilda and female Belkan knights sighed. “Reiher-san…”

“I don’t have time to answer the question!” Yutaro took a detour but was ambushed by an oversized salt-water crocodile when he approached the door. “A crocodile!!!????”

“THANK YOU FOR THE MEAL!!!!” Draco Tsukihiro cheered and pounced at Yutaro, but its tackle missed when the boy dodged. “Shit. When I thought I could have my free meal right now…”

“How can a crocodile become a dragon clan member?!” Yutaro asked.

“Should I tell you the answer?” Draco Tsukihiro asked in sly voice and again pounced at Yutaro. “Do not run away! I will eat you piece by piece!”

Poseidon kicked Draco Tsukihiro to the wall with a roundhouse. “A beast’s worthy opponent is a beast,” the white tiger spoke and opened a kung-fu stance. “Yutaro, go. I’ll cover you.”

“I owe you one, Poseidon-san!”

Yutaro left Poseidon with the pissed Draco Tsukihiro and faced Mr. Von Dietrich. “Can we have a peaceful discussion?” he asked, and was forced to dodge the Zweihander when the Kaiser refused. “I thought this is a democratic government!!”

“Hold it right there.”

The mayhem stopped. Mr. Von Dietrich and his followers looked to the front and saw Frieda standing at the entrance door. “May I know what is going on, everybody?” she asked and corrected her eyeglasses.

“Okaasan!” Freya and Aura gasped.

“Miss Frieda, help!” Yutaro left the chaos and hurled towards Frieda. “You have to help me! These people are going to kill me!”

“I heard you’re going to marry Freya,” Frieda said. “Well, why hadn’t you told me of your feeling towards her before?”

“Why in a sudden you ask me that?!” Yutaro wailed and flailed his arms.

“Who the hell are you, bitch?!” one of the dragon-men snarled.

The Gunslinger Knight turned to the people. “I’m the Gemini Sisters’ custodian,” Frieda replied and withdrew Beowulf. “Frieda Johansen. I’m also their surrogate mother. Pleased to meet you.”

“Then we’ll have to kill you as well!” The dragon-men charged at the Gunslinger Knights when bullets suddenly knocked their swords off their hands. “What the hell is that?”

“Touch Miss Frieda and die,” along came Takeru’s voice as he appeared behind Frieda (clinging onto his back was a timid-looking Yumemi). He withdrew Schwarz Todd, loaded the dual handguns and opened a Gun Kata stance. “So, shall we dance?”

“I thought the Belkan Knights and the von Dietrich clan are at peace!” Matilda spoke as the von Dietrich knights and the Belkan knights fought each other.

“This has nothing to do with peace!” Mr. von Dietrich howled and swung the Zweihander at Yutaro’s head -- again, it missed. “This is family business!”

Mrs. Von Dietrich sighed. “Men…” She left her sitting spot and approached Frieda. “Ms. Johansen,” she said and bowed to her. “We must thank you for taking care of our twin daughters along our absence. We owe you a lot for your deeds.”

“It doesn’t matter,” Frieda said with a smile. “I have long considered them as my beloved daughters.” She later took off the eyeglasses and bowed to Mrs. Von Dietrich. “Now, if you excuse me.”

Frieda left the smiling mother behind and jumped at Mr. Von Dietrich who was blindingly attacking Yutaro. “Aura! Freya! Take Yutaro out of here!” she shouted as she blocked the Kaiser’s Zweihander.

“Got it, Okaasan!” the Gemini Sisters replied and seized Yutaro’s hand. “Yutaro, follow us!”

Galatea and Sao decided to stay neutral throughout the frantic brawl (and let Takeru’s little sister and Keiko join them). “What is your next plan, Master?” Sao asked.

“What if we follow Yutaro and ask him more questions on… his feelings?” Galatea suggested. “Sao, provide escape route.”

“Yes, Master.”

Sao transformed into an Oxtongue Rifle and was caught by Galatea who, then, fired an energy beam onto the wall. She holstered the weapon over shoulder and sported a grin. “So, who wants to follow me?”

The escapees landed on the lakeside. Yutaro fell onto his butt as the Gemini Sisters let go off him. Freya and Aura landed on a piece of boulder and sat on it. They were still in their dragon-girl form, and Yutaro could not help asking himself if this was the reason their family objected their relationship.

“That was so close…” he gasped. “Thank god father isn’t here…”

The twin sisters suddenly blushed. “Father?”

Yutaro laughed. “No, no! I mean I was fortunate my father isn’t here, or he’d kill me,” he answered. “That reminds me. If that meeting can be thought as a reunion, then why aren’t you happy to see your parents?”

“Sou…” Freya threw their sight into the evening sky, as she returned to her normal form. Suddenly, and mysteriously, a Japanese classical song played in the background, and cherry blossom petals materialized in thin air. “We cherish our freedom, and we want to enjoy our life as much as we can. Papa has been strict at deciding our path of life, and he doesn’t believe in one’s freedom.”

“Freya…”

Aura took her twin sister’s hand. “This is the path we have agreed to take since we joined the School,” she spoke. “If Papa doesn’t agree with us, then we’ll fight for it. Even though our life is at stake.”

The sky suddenly trembled. Yutaro looked up and saw a giant wyvern soaring above them. “I get a bad feeling about this…”

“Papa!” the Gemini Sisters gasped.

Mr. Von Dietrich jumped off the wyvern and landed in front of Yutaro. “Finally found you, maggot…” he spoke and withdrew the Zweihander. “Took me a long time to outsmart the gunslinger knight, but I finally got away.”

“We thought Okaasan is unbeaten!” the Gemini Sisters protested.

By now, Frieda, Takeru, the Knights of Yellow Rose, Reiher, Galatea, Sao, Mrs. Von Dietrich and everybody else arrived. They had ended the brawl without losses on both sides, but found themselves too late to stop Mr. Von Dietrich’s execution.

“He’s one tough opponent, I must admit,” Frieda spoke.

“Dear! Can you ever stop for a while and spare the boy?” Mrs. Von Dietrich asked.

Mr. Von Dietrich seemed to ignore his wife’s advice and was equipping the Zweihander with cartridges. “I hope you have prepared your last will, maggot,” he spoke. “Do you have anything to say before I send you to the afterlife?”

“Can we… have a negotiation for a while?” Yutaro suggested.

“Stay still. I’m going to cut you into pieces…” Mr. Von Dietrich spoke, his eyes shooting blood.

“Dear!” Mrs. Von Dietrich shouted.

“Papa!” Aura cried out.

“Yutaro!” Freya screamed.

Yutaro was desperate. He needed to do something. He knew he was not at fault. He knew he had to make things clear.

And Mr. Von Dietrich had lifted the Zweihander high over his head.

There’s only one final option.

“Father-in-law!”

Yutaro knelt before the Kaiser and slammed the rock-hard ground with his bare palms. “Please give your daughter to me!”

Freya was startled. Aura gasped. Galatea batted an impressed eyebrow. Mrs. Von Dietrich smiled. Matilda clapped her hands. Keiko sighed in relief. Takeru nodded. Frieda chuckled. Poseidon tossed a victorious fist.

“If you want the secret to be safe, then let me become a part of your family!” Yutaro added and bowed to Mr. Von Dietrich. “So… so… SO PLEASE BLESS OUR MARRIAGE, FATHER-IN-LAW!”

“You… you…” Mr. Von Dietrich dropped the Zweihander, grabbed Yutaro’s collar and threw him into the lake. “JUST GO TO HELL AND DIE!!!!”

“I thought this is the best option!” Yutaro yelled as he fell into the lake.

“Yutaro!” Freya transformed into dragon-girl and jumped into the lake to save him.

Galatea wrote down something in the notepad. “Wakamoto Yutaro. Today, he declared he would accept Mrs. Von Dietrich’s offer and became a member of the clan. This automatically earns him the right to marry Freya and become her groom.”

She smiled. “This is relevant to my interest.”

This turns out be a quite interesting soap drama. and I can already imagine the real Yutaro's attempt to dry Freya's legs.

Not bad - though I think we'd all appreciate a pic, or @ least a description of the Dragon Twins.

Pretty much (though it's during OUR summer obviously which is opposite yours) classes start in September and we get a two week break over Christmas then go again till very early May at which point it closes again until September, this coming time off is the Thanksgiving break. (2 days proper but due to it’s position in the week leads right into the weekend so I’ll basiclly be off for 5 days)

The live I was talking about was on TV. Animax is showing Music Station (a highly popular Japanese music program on TV) on Fridays. She showed up a few times, and her real voice just doesn't match what we hear in the anime songs we hear.

Ahhh true but Nanoha was definitely the one who taught them the basics of tactics. Teana was the one who seem to have the tactical mindset and leadership qualities, so she took charge as leader during missions and often makes up plans and ideas on the spot.

I'll still credit Nanoha with the teaching basics of tactical combat.

I'll concede that point on the basics, but I remain skeptical that she did anything more than the basics.

Xalinth Tamerlan was born to a rich Midchildan family who had great influence in politics and policy. As a child, he was expected to follow in the path of the several members of his family who have had TSAB posts in the past, particularly his brother, who died in service. He begain training in the TSAB at the age of ten.

However, in his heart, he resented the control his family had over his life, and even though he actually was interested in magic, he was very rebellious, and was initally very resistant to his early magical training.

Because of his latent magical talent, and because of his training, he was already an AAA class mage. He was comissioned to recieve personal training from two elite mages - Ace Hayate Yagami and Der Kleriker, Kha Alexi Testarossa. By the time he was 16, he had completed his training, received the intelligent device Weisenfangkreuz, raised his rank to class S, and looked to be on the fast track for greatness.

But suddenly, as a commissioned officer, he became incredibly rebellious. He started ignoring orders. His behavior became wildly unprofessional...to say the least. He became very disrespectful to his superiors - saying highly...scandalous...things to people.

That was the general line of his indiscretions.

Hayate and Kha tried their best to rein him in, as well as keep him from being dishonorably discharged. But just as when it looked as that would be a matter of time...he suddenly quit service and disappeared. He (under questionable circumstances) purchased a small ship capable of dimensional travel, and started wandering aimlessly. He traveled randomly to both administrated and non-adminstrated worlds, taking part in random conflicts for pay. His travels eventually brought him to Earth's Uminari City, where he met up with Yamamoto Takeru, a young Japanese teen who turned out having a great deal of magical power. Even though he was still comparatively inexperienced, as well as not very skilled in melee combat, he trained Takeru to the best of his ability, and even purchased a device for him, called the Muramasa.

In his heart, he knew that Takeru would need TSAB training to fulfill his potential. But he was too proud to go back.

But a chance meeting with Hayate, who was vacationing on Earth for a few weeks, and a frank discussion with Takeru finally convinced Xalinth to return to the TSAB, and accept any punishment they would impose on him.

To his suprise, it was decided in his absence that he would not be penalized for his previous indiscretions, due to the influence of, to his suprise, Nanoha - the person who he antagonized most. He resumed his service in the TSAB from that point on, while Takeru Yamamoto began training in the Belka style as a melee attacker.

Strengths: Exceptional ranged attacker. Great versatility and range. Very intelligent and cerebral mage, who is very precise in the way he consumes his magic; therefore, he can fight for a long time. Excellent at taking out opposing individual personnel. His ability to break defensive barriers with a single shot is very rare among mages and is incredibly useful as a support option. Can evade enemy fire with ease with his quickness and evasion.

Weaknesses:

Not a threat at all in terms of melee combat - in that area he's limited to little more than blocking and parrying. Very undefensive - he does not use barrier magic, and his barrier jacket is designed to provide the greatest amount of manuverability possible. Can bombard in a sense, but does not direct the shots due to the effort it would take at this point at his magical career. Certainly cannot "nuke".

I'm finding it a little hard to believe that he managed to pass the S rank exam with his skill set, although it's mitigated by the fact that combat is just one part of the exam if the manga is any indication from fate's AAA exam.

NOt much to say as well as it's certainly believable that he would have gotten the trainers that he asked for in exchange for a hefty donation to the church. He certainly is the definiton of glass cannon. Looks like as soon as he get's hit by an attack of a decent power that's he's going to be falling out of the sky.

Description: Fel is an elf that the bureau found on Non-administrated world 117, otherwise known as Kelewan. Elves, thought to only exist is fantasy stories, were first found when an exploration team of the navy found Kelewan. Fel is a typical elf, though she a bit lacking in height and is too energetic for one from a race of quiet and demure humanoids. She has beautiful green eyes with large pupils, a pink coloured hair that is considered uncommon among elves, and a pair of pointy ears. She has a cheerful personality and is always enthusiastic, though some people are apprehensive about the things she’s enthusiastic with.Her ears tend to start twitching when she’s excited or happy, which is quite often and many people had their resistances crumble and had tried to tug at her ear to see if it’s a fake or not.

History: Born on non-administrated world 217, Kelewan, Fel belongs to a tribe of elves that practice elemental spell conjuration. The elves on that planet share their planet with various other non-human races on that planet, though not by choice but rather by birth. (Elf culture and civilization, etc covered in another write-up) Small remote elf villages have always lived in fear of the threat of trolls, and it was because of trolls that Fel came in contact with the TSAB.

The exploration team that had came to encountered Fel and her parents, the parents dying from grievous wounds though having fought off and killed pursuing trolls that had destroyed their village. A mage on the exploration who knew healing magic tried to save them but to no avail. Knowing full well that they will not survive and with no one else to turn to they entrusted Fel, who was then 11 years old, to the exploration team. Not knowing the language the team did not know what the dying elves were saying but they gathered that they were being entrusted with the young child. The exploration team however was filled with youngsters and inexperienced people who knew not how to deal with the situation, with no other option that they could think of, the child was brought aboard the TSAB exploration freighter despite the child’s protests.

Interestingly once aboard the freighter the natural curiosity of the child elf took over and banished her fears almost immediately. Fascinated by all the otherworldly technology, devices, and facilities; Fel started disturbing the various people around as well as play around with the equipments and devices on board the freighter, must to the distraught of the crew. She was taken to Midchilda and taken in by the central HQ’s facility for special children. She was there for over a year found it boring there, and the constant observation and scrutiny on her because of her heritage bothered her a lot as it made her feel like a guinea pig.

She sought a way out of the facility, and to find a place for to belong to. When she overheard some of the staff in the facility talking about a magic training academy nearby, she decided that was where she would go because she wanted to expand on her skills and knowledge on magic, which she had not being able to continue learning due to the untimely demise of her parents.

She was found to have enough magical power to control stable flight. The word flight was enough to make her decide that the air division was where she would be. Her tenure in the academy proved to be an interesting experience for the staff and instructors there, to say the least.

She graduated high in her training batch, and was ranked A class by that time. This was by the time she was 14. She was a part of the smaller air force unit in her local area on a small island off the mainland of Mid-childa, but when she got promoted to sergeant and passed the AA ranks exams more than 2 years later she got transferred to the 1039th unit on the mainland. (Current time: Post StrikerS MC076 September)

Personality/Habits and behaviour/Hobbies: Fel is a cheerful young elf with an energetic disposition. “Always smiling, overenthusiastic, overly energetic, and vertically challenged”; is what her fellow colleagues say when asked about her, to her utter dismay and annoyance. Whenever she hears anyone mentioning her height, and it happens quite often, she’ll go “boooo~~”, pouting cutely while trying to use her staff to knock the daylights out of some who take the joke too far for her liking sometimes, usually the male colleagues.

Her enthusiasm tends to get her into trouble sometimes, and she messes up a lot. Whenever this happens she’ll always exclaim “hechaaa~!” and make a face, she then tries to charm people with her girlish charms to try to get them to forget the incident. “Ehehehe~ sorry~ please forgive me, okay?” Sometimes when she gets annoyed she would go “muuukiiii!!!” and stomps her foot, then chase the person around with her staff.

She has what many people call high-tension syndrome. She’s always excited about trying new things, and is always trying out new spells or trying to invent new ones. She proclaims herself as a genius mage that invents new spells. She insists that she’s altogether cute, beautiful, and lovely, often not giving people the chance to object. Another one of her interesting quirks is how she sees her device. Her device is a staff, which she claims is her “lovely magical stick that is also useful for bonking perverts and people who comment about my height”.

Despite her unusual quirks and behaviour, she is actually a very hardworking person and trains to perfect her magic whenever she has the time. A sergeant in the air division, Fel is has a brilliant mind and is indeed an excellent mage, though her fellow colleagues wonder about calling her genius because of her flightiness.

Fighting style:
An area targeting spell caster, Fel hangs behind under the protection of the front attackers and chants her spells. Her spells are powerful, but take awhile to complete so she can’t be distracted or attacked during those times. She’s not good at evasion while flying so defence is her choice, in any case she should not need to defend herself if her team members are covering her well enough.

Aligned to lightning elemental magic, Fel sees the famous Ace Enforcer Fate T. Harlaown as her idol, and practices spells similar or the very ones Fate uses (some of which are actually taught in the training academies in Mid-childa nowadays).

Thunder Lance: Mana is form and amassed into a shaft of lightning. Fel created this spell when she read myths from a non-admin world where a God was said to be able throw lightning bolts. The spell takes the shape of a throwing lance and hurled to ground level, after the initial impact, the lightning energies surges outwards, burning and electrocuting all within the radius of the explosion. The effects of this spell include paralysing humans, short circuit mechanical constructs, and potentially shutting down systems or devices that have less reinforced structures. This spell needs a target “landing area” for the spell’s effect (lightning surging outwards on impact) to work.

Flier fin: Allows Fel to soar into the skies. The spell takes the form small wings that form on her boots and her heels. There I'm prepared for the critics, and I safely believe I won't be hearing from any haxxbusters since I removed the multiple elemental affinity. If anything I'd say she's pretty balanced, or perhaps even a tad weak. Opinions?

Well I for one believe that its ridiculous that everyone can just come up with a new spell that actually works similar or is exactly identical to what we see is in canon and say its original. IMO what's wrong with recycling used spells/names? I'm sure its not impossible that these spells are widely taught in training academies or even by the combat trainers whenever they hold training camps.

Now if only someone can kindly point out where this there's-something-that-doesn't-fit itch is.

For one Shamsel Nagisa it provided him an opportunity to rest his aching muscles.

"Ugh...with all the magic out there, why hasn't someone created some kind of Pain Suppression spell..."

Tray of food in hand, his eyes dart around the crowded room for someplace to sit. Morning training had been rather brutal for some reason and his body was making that fact well known. As with countless military structures, all training and scheduling was fairly consistent between the various departments. While it kept everything fairly organized, it also meant that practically the entire department was on lunch break. His watchful eyes spied through the sea of heads as he casually walked through the aisles with tray in hand.

'Ah, ha!'

He spots a small, empty table in the corner. With thoughts of relaxing on that chair taking precedence over the pain, he quickly makes his way over and claims it for his own. He leans back in the chair as a soft sigh of relief escapes his lips, the tray of food set on the table temporarily forgotten. The cool air coupled with his slumped positioned on the chair brought much needed relief to his aching limbs. Sadly, it would not last that long as the smells of the various dishes mingling in the air found their way to his stomach...which decided to voice its opinion.

"Argh...fine. Guess I should eat. Let's see...and today's plate of the day is: pasta."

All the noisy hustle and bussle of the cafeteria continued on as the Lieutenant quietly ate his meal. At least, it was a silent meal until a pair of arms wrap around him from behind.

"Hey Shamy~"

"Gah!" Dropping his fork, the startled mage spins around in surprise.

"Jun! Don't DO that! You trying to give me a heart attack or something?"

The purple-haired mage only giggled in response as he hops onto an empty chair next to Shamsel.

"What? I can't say hello?"

As the adrenaline slowly drained from his system, he could only shake his head in response. Over the short period of time he had been a member of Rogue Squadron, he managed to get to know his squad members and make new friends (some had joked about being relieved that he didn't decide to 'befriend' them, which he had yet to figure out what they were talking about). It had taken him a little longer to get used to Jun's...unique nature. Once he had gotten comfortable about him, he found the young Lieutenant to be a fairly likable guy.

Picking up his hastily discarded fork, he resumes eating his meal. Or at least he tries to.

"Hey, Shamy?"

With a mental sigh, he places his partially filled fork down and turns to face the Jun, "Yes?"

"I've been wondering for a while, but why is your Device's storage mode a ring? Most staff-type, especially for the guys, are cards or pendants."

Now that was a question he wasn't expecting. He sets his fork down and holds up his right hand in front of him.

"Ah, well that's because I wanted Tuebor's storage form to be like this."

He could see Jun tilt his head a bit in curiosity out of the corner of his eye.

"How come?"

"Well, you see back on my world my father was an engineer..."

The elder Nagisa peers out from behind the evening paper at his 9 year old son.

"Hm? What is it Sham?"

"Why do you wear a second ring?"

Ah, the mind of a child was a wonderful thing. Sometimes it would think of things at the most random times. He sets down the paper and points to the silver ring on his right hand's pinky.

"You mean this one?"

A quick nod was all he needed.

"Well, it's a ring daddy got for being an engineer and as a reminder for us."

Curious eyes stared back.

"A reminder?"

"Yup. You see, we wear it on our...um, writing hand so we'll always see it as we work. It reminds us of our duty as an engineer to design things to be the best and safest so no one will get hurt."

He watched silently as his son processed all of that information, hoping that he didn't make it all too complicated.

"So it's to help daddy remember to do his best at work?"

A chuckle escapes his lips. Ah, to be a child again.

"Yes, that's one way of putting it."

The young Shamsel flashes a grin and his thanks before running off, leaving his father to get back to reading the paper.

Shamsel nods as his eyes stray over to the silver ring.

"Yea...it was one of the few things I took with me from home. I probably pissed off a lot of the techs when I told them I wanted them to integrate the ring into Tuebor," he says with a chuckle, "I may not be an engineer like my father, but I do need to do my best as a mage to protect others. In a way, this ring helps me to remember that."

The younger mage nods, apparently happy at the explanation before standing up.

"Well, I need to get a few errands done before training. I'll catch you later, Shamy."

Waving goodbye to his squad member, he turns back to his meal. As he brings up his fork, his eyes stray over to the ever present silver ring.

'And it's also a permanent reminder of my failures...'

The rest of his meal was eaten in silence.

As a quick note, this ring actually exists and is given out by various organizations all over the world, known as the Iron Ring (although many are stainless steel now). Some believed that it originated from a fatal accident in the early 1900's with rings forged from the salvaged steel as a reminder to engineers of the failure so that they would make designs that are strong and safe.

Nice fluff piece, although we're constantly reminded of his darker deeds.

First time I've heard of that, but it would be quite a reminder.. (studying to be an engineeer myself, EE though)

It kinda seems to me that Nanoha was intent on turning Teana into a human CIWS. The way Yesy translated that episode, the gist of it appeared to be basically Teana was tactical command and CIWS defense, shooting down incoming threats like a good R2D2.

It's pretty damn fun my only beef is that the cloak is a little too short to be practical on such huge maps. I usually find it more advantageous to just turbo-boost into combat then try to use the cloak, either way I'm low on energy when I arrive, but at least boosting I'm nearly impossible to hit and I get into range faster, also of course the cloak lasts like 5 times as long in cut scenes. =/

Which stuck me as a piss poor idea it's hard to give orders when you're trying to shot down a bunch of shit flying in every direction if her job was tactical control she should have emphasized concealment and sniping teach her how to stay out of sight and direct the battle while taking shots where they'll matter most, not stand in the middle of it and draw fire from all over the place.

To her credit see seems to have somewhat ignored Nanoha and gone for something like this on her own her climactic fight being a fine example of skill and tactics triumphing over nonsensical stand up fighting. She'd probably make a better instructor then Nanoha with a few more months of experience.

Dead son, accidentally killed himself with his gun which lead to his divorce and borderline suicidal tendencies for several years on his part. It's altered slightly here since the gun didn't fit, I had him drown in a pool while unattended keeps the element of minor negligence without the outright law breaking having a gun would entail, it's also heavily hinted in canon that he still loved his Ex though, but never found a way to reconcile. The scenario planned involves said ex dying and him nearly getting back into that depressive funk over it... Slightly contrived, but hardly outlandish IMO. It's really just an initial hook to get them acquainted as more then just occasional co-workers in any case so the real madness and fun can begin.

Plus it’s crack it only needs to make a little sense.

Xalinth Tamerlan was born to a rich Midchildan family who had great influence in politics and policy. As a child, he was expected to follow in the path of the several members of his family who have had TSAB posts in the past, particularly his brother, who died in service. He begain training in the TSAB at the age of ten.

However, in his heart, he resented the control his family had over his life, and even though he actually was interested in magic, he was very rebellious, and was initally very resistant to his early magical training.

Because of his latent magical talent, and because of his training, he was already an AAA class mage. He was comissioned to recieve personal training from two elite mages - Ace Hayate Yagami and Der Kleriker, Kha Alexi Testarossa. By the time he was 16, he had completed his training, received the intelligent device Weisenfangkreuz, raised his rank to class S, and looked to be on the fast track for greatness.

But suddenly, as a commissioned officer, he became incredibly rebellious. He started ignoring orders. His behavior became wildly unprofessional...to say the least. He became very disrespectful to his superiors - saying highly...scandalous...things to people.

That was the general line of his indiscretions.

Hayate and Kha tried their best to rein him in, as well as keep him from being dishonorably discharged. But just as when it looked as that would be a matter of time...he suddenly quit service and disappeared. He (under questionable circumstances) purchased a small ship capable of dimensional travel, and started wandering aimlessly. He traveled randomly to both administrated and non-adminstrated worlds, taking part in random conflicts for pay. His travels eventually brought him to Earth's Uminari City, where he met up with Yamamoto Takeru, a young Japanese teen who turned out having a great deal of magical power. Even though he was still comparatively inexperienced, as well as not very skilled in melee combat, he trained Takeru to the best of his ability, and even purchased a device for him, called the Muramasa.

In his heart, he knew that Takeru would need TSAB training to fulfill his potential. But he was too proud to go back.

But a chance meeting with Hayate, who was vacationing on Earth for a few weeks, and a frank discussion with Takeru finally convinced Xalinth to return to the TSAB, and accept any punishment they would impose on him.

To his suprise, it was decided in his absence that he would not be penalized for his previous indiscretions, due to the influence of, to his suprise, Nanoha - the person who he antagonized most. He resumed his service in the TSAB from that point on, while Takeru Yamamoto began training in the Belka style as a melee attacker.

Strengths: Exceptional ranged attacker. Great versatility and range. Very intelligent and cerebral mage, who is very precise in the way he consumes his magic; therefore, he can fight for a long time. Excellent at taking out opposing individual personnel. His ability to break defensive barriers with a single shot is very rare among mages and is incredibly useful as a support option. Can evade enemy fire with ease with his quickness and evasion.

Weaknesses:

Not a threat at all in terms of melee combat - in that area he's limited to little more than blocking and parrying. Oh yes I feel I must say something about the spell list before anyone says anything. Why are the spells rip offs from Fate's? Well I for one believe that its ridiculous that everyone can just come up with a new spell that actually works similar or is exactly identical to what we see is in canon and say its original. IMO what's wrong with recycling used spells/names? I'm sure its not impossible that these spells are widely taught in training academies or even by the combat trainers whenever they hold training camps.

Now if only someone can kindly point out where this there's-something-that-doesn't-fit itch is.

I'm liking Fel's character already, somewhat full of herself without being arrogant, and on the sunny side as well (and watching too many Mahou Shoujo titles I see ) Also, interesting history on how easily she perked up after such a tragedy.

And taking CC spells is certainly a welcome sight here, especially ones using Fate's spells Although Genocide Shift? I'm under the impression that Shifts are simply spell modifiers that increase the quantity of multi-shot spells, and in this case Genocide Shift would be an outrageously powerful Shift well into SS class, with the only one we know who used it was Reinforce

So poignant and quaint, yet gives a nice insight into Shamsel's past, and the ring really is a nice symbol for this scenario.

Lunch time was a well-liked time of day at the TSAB. Actually, it was a well-liked time of day on almost any planet and dimension. It offered students a break from the rigors of the education system trying to cram information into their growing minds. Workers were able to get in a breather and relax from a hectic morning of work...and prepare for the work that was to come. For one Shamsel Nagisa it provided him an opportunity to rest his aching muscles.

"Ugh...with all the magic out there, why hasn't someone created some kind of Pain Suppression spell..."

Tray of food in hand, his eyes dart around the crowded room for someplace to sit. Morning training had been rather brutal for some reason and his body was making that fact well known. As with countless military structures, all training and scheduling was fairly consistent between the various departments. While it kept everything fairly organized, it also meant that practically the entire department was on lunch break. His watchful eyes spied through the sea of heads as he casually walked through the aisles with tray in hand.

'Ah, ha!'

He spots a small, empty table in the corner. With thoughts of relaxing on that chair taking precedence over the pain, he quickly makes his way over and claims it for his own. He leans back in the chair as a soft sigh of relief escapes his lips, the tray of food set on the table temporarily forgotten. The cool air coupled with his slumped positioned on the chair brought much needed relief to his aching limbs. Sadly, it would not last that long as the smells of the various dishes mingling in the air found their way to his stomach...which decided to voice its opinion.

"Argh...fine. Guess I should eat. Let's see...and today's plate of the day is: pasta."

All the noisy hustle and bussle of the cafeteria continued on as the Lieutenant quietly ate his meal. At least, it was a silent meal until a pair of arms wrap around him from behind.

"Hey Shamy~"

"Gah!" Dropping his fork, the startled mage spins around in surprise.

"Jun! Don't DO that! You trying to give me a heart attack or something?"

The purple-haired mage only giggled in response as he hops onto an empty chair next to Shamsel.

"What? I can't say hello?"

As the adrenaline slowly drained from his system, he could only shake his head in response. Over the short period of time he had been a member of Rogue Squadron, he managed to get to know his squad members and make new friends (some had joked about being relieved that he didn't decide to 'befriend' them, which he had yet to figure out what they were talking about). It had taken him a little longer to get used to Jun's...unique nature. Once he had gotten comfortable about him, he found the young Lieutenant to be a fairly likable guy.

Picking up his hastily discarded fork, he resumes eating his meal. Or at least he tries to.

"Hey, Shamy?"

With a mental sigh, he places his partially filled fork down and turns to face the Jun, "Yes?"

"I've been wondering for a while, but why is your Device's storage mode a ring? Most staff-type, especially for the guys, are cards or pendants."

Now that was a question he wasn't expecting. He sets his fork down and holds up his right hand in front of him.

"Ah, well that's because I wanted Tuebor's storage form to be like this."

He could see Jun tilt his head a bit in curiosity out of the corner of his eye.

"How come?"

"Well, you see back on my world my father was an engineer..."

The elder Nagisa peers out from behind the evening paper at his 9 year old son.

"Hm? What is it Sham?"

"Why do you wear a second ring?"

Ah, the mind of a child was a wonderful thing. Sometimes it would think of things at the most random times. He sets down the paper and points to the silver ring on his right hand's pinky.

"You mean this one?"

A quick nod was all he needed.

"Well, it's a ring daddy got for being an engineer and as a reminder for us."

Curious eyes stared back.

"A reminder?"

"Yup. You see, we wear it on our...um, writing hand so we'll always see it as we work. It reminds us of our duty as an engineer to design things to be the best and safest so no one will get hurt."

He watched silently as his son processed all of that information, hoping that he didn't make it all too complicated.

"So it's to help daddy remember to do his best at work?"

A chuckle escapes his lips. Ah, to be a child again.

"Yes, that's one way of putting it."

The young Shamsel flashes a grin and his thanks before running off, leaving his father to get back to reading the paper.

"So it was your father's?"

Shamsel nods as his eyes stray over to the silver ring.

"Yea...it was one of the few things I took with me from home. I probably pissed off a lot of the techs when I told them I wanted them to integrate the ring into Tuebor," he says with a chuckle, "I may not be an engineer like my father, but I do need to do my best as a mage to protect others. In a way, this ring helps me to remember that."

The younger mage nods, apparently happy at the explanation before standing up.

"Well, I need to get a few errands done before training. I'll catch you later, Shamy."

Waving goodbye to his squad member, he turns back to his meal. As he brings up his fork, his eyes stray over to the ever present silver ring.

'And it's also a permanent reminder of my failures...'

The rest of his meal was eaten in silence.

The Riot Force 6 and the 21st Unit were exploring every inch of the capital city for clues of the Gale Whistler. The Phantom Squad and the 82nd Division also joined force, as well as the Linebackers. It was a race that would pit them against time and the unforgiving reality of the world.

“Did you find anything?”

Nanoha shook her head. “It’s still early. I can’t say anything about it.”

The Ace quartet continued their search around the boulevard. “Don’t you think it’s weird, Nanoha-chan?” Hayate asked as she picked up a piece of metal debris. “A Lost Logia belonged to a king, a boy said to be a Chronomancer, and a lost civilization serving as a planet’s protector? This is far more complicated than the Alhazard case.”

“I’m more curious of this place,” Keroko said and looked around. “Did anyone of us realize this city had used to be a battlefield?”

“How can you tell? There has been no recorded battle on Earth for four years.”

The Aces continued searching. This time, they headed to the mausoleum, walking past people who paid them no attention. The chill began biting them; did the citizens deliberately ignore them?

“[Have you found any clues, Nanoha-san?]”

“We’re heading to the cemetery,” Nanoha responded to Yuuno’s radio call.

“[The cemetery? Hang on. We have latest information about the Gale Whistler’s girlfriend. I’ll let Armstrong-san explain.]”

“Girlfriend?”

“[This is Armstrong. The name of the girl is Yuu. She perished while protecting the Gale Whistler from his berserk sister. She was buried along with thousands of citizens who died in the Battles of Kiev.]”

“No wonder why there aren’t any visitors here,” Hayate spoke. “This place brings them painful memories.”

“[According to documents we recovered, the Gale Whistler had used his Chronograph power three times. The energy reading taken by our agents during the event showed it exceeded all expectations.]”

“Hold on! You can’t be this serious, Ojiichan,” Keroko replied. “How can we be so sure he’s more powerful than anyone of us?”

“[Keroko, the boy is stronger than anybody else for one sole reason: his father was an Immortal. Added with his Chronograph circuit and his years of experience as a street combatant, he’s not to be taken lightly.]”

“Immortal… that doesn’t sound good, does it?” Hayate uttered.

“Where can we find him anyway, Ojiichan?”

“[We’ll search this city first. If there’s no trace of the Gale Whistler, then we’ll proceed to another location.]” The Aces did not answer the transmission. “[Ladies? What’s the matter?]”

“Someone’s visiting the grave. We’ll speak to you later.” Nanoha approached the lone woman they saw, who was at the time putting a flower bouquet on the tombstone. “Excuse me.”

The woman turned to Nanoha, revealing a pair of radiant sapphire eyes that had the sparks of acceptance. “Haii?”

Nanoha was startled. “You’re Japanese.”

She nodded. “Haii.”

They could not believe it.

The woman they met at the cemetery. They never expected her, a Japanese citizen living in Ukraine, to be married to the Gale Whistler, let alone having a close relationship with him. And now they were at the woman’s residence, invited to an evening tea season.

“Err, excuse me, Kawasumi-san,” Nanoha said as to begin talking to her.

She put down the ceramic cup. “Mai is fine with me,” she spoke.

“Uh… yeah, Mai-san. We understand if you’d like us to accompany your evening tea, but you don’t have to.” Mai remained silent, even though her hands were preparing the tea. “Err… Mai-san?”

“Here.” One by one, the married woman served the Aces with the hot drink. “Oolong tea. It’s good to keep your body warm. Please make yourself at home.”

Not knowing what else to do, the Aces simply accepted the offer. Mai kept her eyes on one four women, watching as they were pleased with the tea. “It’s delicious,” Fate commented and wasted no time eating the home-made muffins. “Oishii!”

“Really?” Nanoha, Hayate and Keroko took the muffins, and they, too, were delighted. “The best meal we’ve ever had for a while.”

“It’s his last meal before he left,” Mai spoke, consequently catching the Aces’ attention. “He came here last month. That was the last time I saw him.”

“You could have asked him not to leave you,” Hayate said.

Mai shook her head. “I did ask him, but then I saw sadness coming from his eyes. It was like he had something to accomplish first.”

“Did he say anything else before he left?”

Mai nodded. “He said his heart was torn apart when he decided to leave the gunslinger girls. He was crying when he said that. I could tell deep inside of him he couldn’t forsake them.” She poured the tea into Nanoha’s cup. “That Hikki… he always hides his problems even though he can share it with me.”

“Mai-san, how much do you understand him?”

“As much as my devotion towards him as a wife,” Mai answered. “When I first met him, he was a typical care-for-nothing man with nothing but his life to enjoy. I knew noting of his distant past because he never told me of anything. But… he did mention Yuu.”

“His girlfriend…”

“He always said he owed her a lot for teaching him the meaning of life,” Mai continued. “He always talked about her as ‘the shy girl who willing became a patch to cover the hole inside his heart’. I guess I still have a lot to do to surpass his first love.”

“But we were told he was a Chronomancer. His power… it’s unlike anything-”

“Fate, I presume,” Mai uttered. “He would use his power only when people he cared of were threatened. It’s what makes him Hikki: his selflessness. But…” She frowned, and there was a profound melancholy coming from her eyes as she continued. “It’s also his greatest weakness.”

“His weakness?”

“If he wanted to protect someone, he would do so without even thinking of his safety. Even if he had to destroy himself in the process.”

The Aces said nothing. They felt the information would be enough to continue searching the runaway Gale Whistler. “Mai-san, we highly appreciate your cooperation. We’ll find him and bring him back to you. Definitely.”

“Wait.”

The Aces turned back to her as they were about to leave. “Yes?”

“I need to speak to Nanoha. This is between us alone.”

The Aces looked at one another. Then Nanoha nodded and asked her friends to wait at the outside. “What do you want to tell me?”

“It’s about Hikki.”

Nanoha sat next to her. “Hikki?”

The woman with the sapphire eyes solemnly nodded. “I couldn’t help him anymore,” she spoke. “When Claes came and told me what had happened, I cried. It wasn’t because he had broken his vow as a loyal friend, but because I could do nothing to help him.”

“Mai…”

Mai started to weep. “I felt I had failed him as his wife, his partner, his most relied on person. I felt helpless as I received news that he had attacked his handler in rage.” She continued sobbing, even after Nanoha securely held her in her arms. “The only thing I could do was not to ask him what he had done to Claes or anybody else. It was the best thing I could think of to avoid hurting his heart.”

“I’m sorry,” Nanoha muttered and softly soothed her back. “It must have been hard to swallow the bitter fact.”

“Nanoha… you’re the only one I can trust on to save him.”

Nanoha was shocked. If this had to be true, then she would face a task almost impossible to accomplish. “How am I supposed to save him when I know nothing about him?”

“You must do whatever you feel is the right thing to do,” Mai continued. “He’s running away from his pain. He’s running away from his destiny. Only you can make him accept his path.”

Nanoha slightly pulled away from her. “But what if I don’t make it?”

“You have to, or he will be crushed by his own desire to protect.” She stared into Nanoha’s eyes, as long as she could muster. “Please, Nanoha. This comes from a mother with twin daughters. If you refuse, then who else can I rely on?”

Nanoha returned the stare. “Mai…” Finally, she smiled and softly married the clenched the married woman’s hands. “I see if I can persuade him to talk.”

Mai smiled. It was faint, yet Nanoha knew it was genuine. “Thank you, Nanoha.”

“For one thing, it’s the worst winter season of the year,” Hayate answered as they were preparing their cabin for the night’s sleep. “All flights are either cancelled or have to be rescheduled.”

“Just when I thought I could brave the blizzard,” Keroko sighed and jumped into the mattress. “So what’s our plan?”

“Right now, we have documents on Hikki to study,” Fate said, finally referring to the Gale Whistler with his name. “But Ojiichan said we should use this trip to relax. Nanoha-chan, what do you think?” Nanoha did not answer, but instead was gazing into the snowy countryside. “Nanoha-chan? Something bothering you?”

“No! Nothing, really,” Nanoha replied.

Fate batted an eyebrow. “Really? Then how come you looked all glum when you met us? It must be about Mai-chan, isn’t it?”

“It wasn’t that!” Nanoha retorted and squealed when Fate suddenly pounced at her. “Fate-chan! I’ve told you it wasn’t personal!”

“Then you must tell us what happened between the two of you,” Fate insisted and proceeded to crawl her hands up to her chest.

“Iyah! Fate-chan, stop it!”

“This looks fun,” Keroko said and tossed pillows at Nanoha and Fate. Hayate followed suit, and before long the quartet was exchanging pillow bashes and waist tickling, frolicking and laughing with each other. They did not notice the arrival of the ticket inspector at the outside, who decided to leave them in their private world.

The fun finally stopped. The four Aces lay on the bed, their nightdress soaked in sweat and their breaths laboured. They later laughed at what they had been doing. “We still got the chance to have fun in the middle of a crisis,” Fate said.

Nanoha smiled. “We can’t help it, right?”

Yutaro woke up.

Today, he was feeling terribly exhausted. As if surviving the wrath of Mr. Von Dietrich and his dragon knights was not enough, getting through the party held at his apartment was very troublesome. What was worse, all the women he knew decided to stay there for a night, too tired to return to their quarters.

“Give me a break…”

He sat on the sofa. He looked at the floor: Takeru was peacefully dozing in Frieda’s embrace; Matilda was holding Keiko in a possessive manner, the former dressed up as a nun and the former having her kimono slip off her shoulders; the gunslinger boy’s sister Yumemi was sleeping in the security of Silberkugel’s warm cuddle; Galatea was sleep-sitting next to the veranda’s sliding door, Oxtongue Rifle Sao securely held in her arms. The Gemini Sisters were sleeping inside his room, leaving him with the only place to spend the night being the sofa.

“Will I ever survive this ordeal?”

He left the sofa and headed to the bathroom. Today, he was supposed to contact his Street Performers colleague to discuss their special Christmas concert at Tsukimura Town in East Mid-Childa. His head was terribly heavy, the effect of the alcoholic drink he drank after accepting Takeru’s challenge. “I think I need to clear my stomach after this…”

He opened the door.

And what greeted him was the hottest, sexiest, most intimate if not suggestively immoral sight he ever encountered.

“Oneechan, you aren’t supposed to put the lotion there…”

“Fufufufu, this is for what you did to me at the beach. Now, just let Oneechan rub it HERE and THERE…”

“Oneechan, people will be watching at us!”

“What are you talking about? There’s no one but us alone.”

“Oneechan! Ah, dame…”

“My cute Imotou is frightened? Don’t worry; Oneechan will be gentle…”

“Oneechan…”

The frolic stopped. The bubble-covered Gemini Sisters realized they were watched and turned to the horrified Yutaro. Their facial expression, shocked at first, turned into fury as they found out they had been eavesdropped.

“Uhh…” Yutaro spoke, gulping when he saw the girls’ wings and tails wagging beneath the bubbles. He waved to them. “Good morning?”

“IYAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!”

The Gemini Sisters’ scream was more than enough to knock Yutaro out of the sight; in fact, the Sonic Weapon LITERALLY sent him out of the apartment. The girls’ cries woke everyone up and they hurried to see the twins, now covering themselves with towels, standing next to the hole their scream had made.

Yutaro was hanging on a tree. His ears were bleeding, severed by the force of the Sonic Weapon. “What was that for?” he demanded.

Spoiler for part 2:

The Street Performers laughed out loud. Yutaro protested at them for not being helpful, and they kept laughing at his bad day, cheering for their inspiring guitarist.

“Come on, Yutaro! You’re already a married man!” the keyboardist said and tossed the beer mug into the air. “You shouldn’t be afraid of sleeping with your wife!”

“But I accidentally saw them taking bath…” Yutaro mumbled with tears. “The only thing I knew after that was… they screamed at me…”

“I’m sorry, Yutaro,” Freya apologized. “We didn’t mean to yell at you that loud…”

“And after that… Father-in-Law chased me around the apartment with his big sword…” Yutaro mumbled.

(Flashback of Mr. Von Dietrich and his dragon knights screaming bloody murder as they chased Yutaro across the housing estates. “WHY IT HAS TO BE ME?????” Yutaro cried in dismay.

“KOROSE! KOROSE! KOROSE!”)

Galatea sighed. “This is why you shouldn’t use your power in blind rage,” she reminded. Sao nodded, even as she was preparing breakfast for the Street Performers.

“I’m sorry, Oneesama…” Freya mumbled. Aura nodded as well.

Takeru glared at the guitarist boy. “You sure you didn’t intentionally eavesdrop them?” he asked.

“Why the hell would I do that?” Yutaro retorted. “Besides, with Freya and Aura doing THIS and THAT while they were soaked in BUBBLES, and with I heavily INFLUENCED by alcohol thanks to YOU, it was PURE accident!”

The nearby Belkan knights overhead the conversation. They bled their nose, thinking of the wild fantasy of the Gemini Sisters doing THIS and THAT while they were soaked in BUBBLES. “What if we have Gala-nee and Sao-nee thrown in?” one of them suggested and plugged his nostrils.

“Forget about them! We need Frieda, instead!” his friend protested.

“No! Just have ALL OF THEM doing THIS and THAT in BUBBLES!” his other friend insisted.

The Belkan knights became silent. The thought of the gorgeous females in an ORGY was too much for their poor mind to handle, and they were knocked out by the information overload. “Happy YARO…”

Takeru snapped. “Crap… Frieda in FOAMS?” he groaned and covered his bleeding nose. “Damn you, Yutaro, for making us have good morning fantasy…”

“That’s right,” the drummer said and thanked Sao for the sponge cake. “We’re supposed to have our concert this Christmas, right? Well, there is bad news: the hall we have booked is destroyed in fire yesterday night.”

The rest of the Street Performers moaned in dismay. “Aw, come on! We have worked hard for the concert, and now we have to cancel it?” the bassist grumbled.

“Where else can we make our reservation?” the keyboardist asked. “We don’t have much time for that.”

“Then allow me to help,” Galatea offered. “I may not know anything about musical concert, but I know the perfect place for such occasion.”

“Really?” The drummer sported a thumb’s up. “Now that’s what I call a miracle!”

Galatea smiled. “Of course, assuming Wakamoto Yutaro agrees to accept this offer.”

Yutaro sighed. “I already escaped death after accepted the marriage offer, and now there’s another offer I have to consider?”

“Yutaro, don’t make Oneesama upset,” Freya pleaded.

“Yeah, yeah, I know,” Yutaro spoke.

The Street Performer’s backup guitarist, who was earlier missing, was returning from his cabin when he accidentally tripped and spilled the mineral water he was drinking onto Freya. The girl’s legs suddenly glowed and grew dragon scales. “Oh, no!”

“Freya!” Quickly Yutaro picked Freya in his arms and covered her legs from sight. “It’ll be bad if someone sees this! Are you alright, Freya?”

“Yes, I am,” Freya replied. “Once my legs are dry, the skins will return to normal.”

“Got that!”

The Street Performers watched as the married couple left the care. “Whoa. Talk about mutual understanding,” the drummer said.

“I sense something suspicious,” Galatea spoke and excused herself.

“Everybody’s leaving?” Takeru asked.

The rest of the people turned to the backup guitarist. “Did I just do something?”

“I wonder how the children are doing right now,” Mrs. Von Dietrich said as she and Frieda were walking down the road with Mr. Von Dietrich and Reiher.

“I hope Yutaro won’t mind getting yelled in daily basis for accidentally stepping into their bath,” Frieda said. “The sisters always have the habit of spending too long time in the bathroom.”

Mrs. Von Dietrich laughed. “They never change, don’t they?”

Mr. Von Dietrich snarled. “I’m going to kill that maggot… how dare he touch my cute Freya and stain her innocence…” He turned to Reiher. “I hope you’re ready to assassinate him when he’s unprepared.”

“But Kaiser, how are we going to execute him when we’re in the Belkan knights’ territory?” the Afro knight asked.

Mr. Von Dietrich’s face twisted. “What territory? This is for my cute Freya! If you have to kill the knights as well, then do it!”

“Dear!” Mr. Von Dietrich and Reiher twitched at the call and turned to Mrs. Von Dietrich. “You aren’t going to plan something again, are you?”

Mr. Von Dietrich laughed. “What are you talking about, honey? Right, Reiher?” Reiher could only nod, and frowned afterwards when Mrs. Von Dietrich did not eat Mr. Von Dietrich’s excuse. “What is wrong with you, honey? I am the honoured Kaiser Von Dietrich! I won’t ever do such small thing--”

They heard Freya’s moans and Yutaro’s groans as they were seated under a tree.

“Damn it! This isn’t going well…”

“It hurts. Yutaro, please do it slower…”

Mrs. Von Dietrich and Frieda turned to the children. “Well, well. If it isn’t Yutaro and Freya.” They blushed at the intimate sight they were seeing. “Oh, my, children today surely don’t mind doing it anywhere…”

“They’ve grown up, after all,” Frieda sighed.

“They are filled with raging hormones, you see,” Reiher commented as he appeared behind Frieda.

Mr. Von Dietrich gaped. His face twisted many times before he grinned. “D… DIE!!!”

Yutaro noticed the death call. “Ah CRAP!!!”

The Kaiser withdrew the Zweihander. “I’m going to kill you! PREPARE YOURSELF!!!” he cried out.

“W-w-w-w-w-w-w-WHYYY??????”

Freya’s legs returned to normal. Reiher saw the transformation and immediately strangled Mr. Von Dietrich. “Kaiser, please calm down! He’s just drying Lady Freya’s legs! Please restrain yourself!”

Yutaro was smitten. “My… my saviour…”

“Oh, dear… he’s so handsome…” Matilda sighed as she suddenly materialized next to Yutaro, much to his surprise.

Freya and Mr. Von Dietrich started quarrelling with each other, while Reiher helplessly tried clearing the misunderstanding between them. Yutaro was seen arguing with Matilda before she was taken away by the worried Keiko. Mrs. Von Dietrich and Frieda took the chance to approach the seemingly defeated Yutaro.

“He’s not doing Freya?” they asked and looked down at the boy. “What is wrong with you? You have to try a little harder.”

Yutaro could only laugh. “That’s not an advice at all, Ma’am…”

Galatea took note of the attention and wrote down her observations. She turned to Yutaro, grinning at a new thought of the street performer.

“Phantom 21… Wakamoto Yutaro…” She nodded. “Let’s see if he has more secrets to share.”

Lunch time was a well-liked time of day at the TSAB. Actually, it was a well-liked time of day on almost any planet and dimension. It offered students a break from the rigors of the education system trying to cram information into their growing minds. Workers were able to get in a breather and relax from a hectic morning of work...and prepare for the work that was to come. For one Shamsel Nagisa it provided him an opportunity to rest his aching muscles.

"Ugh...with all the magic out there, why hasn't someone created some kind of Pain Suppression spell..."

Tray of food in hand, his eyes dart around the crowded room for someplace to sit. Morning training had been rather brutal for some reason and his body was making that fact well known. As with countless military structures, all training and scheduling was fairly consistent between the various departments. While it kept everything fairly organized, it also meant that practically the entire department was on lunch break. His watchful eyes spied through the sea of heads as he casually walked through the aisles with tray in hand.

'Ah, ha!'

He spots a small, empty table in the corner. With thoughts of relaxing on that chair taking precedence over the pain, he quickly makes his way over and claims it for his own. He leans back in the chair as a soft sigh of relief escapes his lips, the tray of food set on the table temporarily forgotten. The cool air coupled with his slumped positioned on the chair brought much needed relief to his aching limbs. Sadly, it would not last that long as the smells of the various dishes mingling in the air found their way to his stomach...which decided to voice its opinion.

"Argh...fine. Guess I should eat. Let's see...and today's plate of the day is: pasta."

All the noisy hustle and bussle of the cafeteria continued on as the Lieutenant quietly ate his meal. At least, it was a silent meal until a pair of arms wrap around him from behind.

"Hey Shamy~"

"Gah!" Dropping his fork, the startled mage spins around in surprise.

"Jun! Don't DO that! You trying to give me a heart attack or something?"

The purple-haired mage only giggled in response as he hops onto an empty chair next to Shamsel.

"What? I can't say hello?"

As the adrenaline slowly drained from his system, he could only shake his head in response. Over the short period of time he had been a member of Rogue Squadron, he managed to get to know his squad members and make new friends (some had joked about being relieved that he didn't decide to 'befriend' them, which he had yet to figure out what they were talking about). It had taken him a little longer to get used to Jun's...unique nature. Once he had gotten comfortable about him, he found the young Lieutenant to be a fairly likable guy.

Picking up his hastily discarded fork, he resumes eating his meal. Or at least he tries to.

"Hey, Shamy?"

With a mental sigh, he places his partially filled fork down and turns to face the Jun, "Yes?"

"I've been wondering for a while, but why is your Device's storage mode a ring? Most staff-type, especially for the guys, are cards or pendants."

Now that was a question he wasn't expecting. He sets his fork down and holds up his right hand in front of him.

"Ah, well that's because I wanted Tuebor's storage form to be like this."

He could see Jun tilt his head a bit in curiosity out of the corner of his eye.

"How come?"

"Well, you see back on my world my father was an engineer..."

"Daddy!"

The elder Nagisa peers out from behind the evening paper at his 9 year old son.

"Hm? What is it Sham?"

"Why do you wear a second ring?"

Ah, the mind of a child was a wonderful thing. Sometimes it would think of things at the most random times. He sets down the paper and points to the silver ring on his right hand's pinky.

"You mean this one?"

A quick nod was all he needed.

"Well, it's a ring daddy got for being an engineer and as a reminder for us."

Curious eyes stared back.

"A reminder?"

"Yup. You see, we wear it on our...um, writing hand so we'll always see it as we work. It reminds us of our duty as an engineer to design things to be the best and safest so no one will get hurt."

He watched silently as his son processed all of that information, hoping that he didn't make it all too complicated.

"So it's to help daddy remember to do his best at work?"

A chuckle escapes his lips. Ah, to be a child again.

"Yes, that's one way of putting it."

The young Shamsel flashes a grin and his thanks before running off, leaving his father to get back to reading the paper.

"So it was your father's?"

Shamsel nods as his eyes stray over to the silver ring.

"Yea...it was one of the few things I took with me from home. I probably pissed off a lot of the techs when I told them I wanted them to integrate the ring into Tuebor," he says with a chuckle, "I may not be an engineer like my father, but I do need to do my best as a mage to protect others. In a way, this ring helps me to remember that."

The younger mage nods, apparently happy at the explanation before standing up.

"Well, I need to get a few errands done before training. I'll catch you later, Shamy."

Waving goodbye to his squad member, he turns back to his meal. As he brings up his fork, his eyes stray over to the ever present silver ring.

'And it's also a permanent reminder of my failures...'

The rest of his meal was eaten in silence.

As a quick note, this ring actually exists and is given out by various organizations all over the world, known as the Iron Ring (although many are stainless steel now). Some believed that it originated from a fatal accident in the early 1900's with rings forged from the salvaged steel as a reminder to engineers of the failure so that they would make designs that are strong and safe.

Very nice indeed. Shamsel interests me greatly, not just for the Eva reference.

Writing a CC, or any character not OFM, is pretty intimidating because I'm afraid I'll get characterization wrong.

One slight nitpick... I would have thought that they would be using "magic damage" during the training...(as much as I loathe the concept for battles, it does come in handy for training purposes) I don't think the aftermath of my current brawl resulted in so many injuries...

Haha, the fight was supposed to be non-lethal, but my train of thought decided that Glen and Signum knew that you can't non-lethally injure someone when your weapon is a sword. They abandoned the concept about the time Signum charged him in the beginning.

Oh and Signum was limited in this correct?

Of course. If Signum was operating at her S+ potentional, she would have had Glen's soul for breakfast. In this fight, Glen was not limited and Signum was limited to AA, thus making them equals for the fight.

It makes it more interesting that way. Ironically, after this, Glen and Signum had a deeper respect and friendship for each other. I guess you could say that it was their version of "Befriending".

Xalinth Tamerlan was born to a rich Midchildan family who had great influence in politics and policy. As a child, he was expected to follow in the path of the several members of his family who have had TSAB posts in the past, particularly his brother, who died in service. He begain training in the TSAB at the age of ten.

However, in his heart, he resented the control his family had over his life, and even though he actually was interested in magic, he was very rebellious, and was initally very resistant to his early magical training.

Because of his latent magical talent, and because of his training, he was already an AAA class mage. He was comissioned to recieve personal training from two elite mages - Ace Hayate Yagami and Der Kleriker, Kha Alexi Testarossa. By the time he was 16, he had completed his training, received the intelligent device Weisenfangkreuz, raised his rank to class S, and looked to be on the fast track for greatness.

But suddenly, as a commissioned officer, he became incredibly rebellious. He started ignoring orders. His behavior became wildly unprofessional...to say the least. He became very disrespectful to his superiors - saying highly...scandalous...things to people.







That was the general line of his indiscretions.

Hayate and Kha tried their best to rein him in, as well as keep him from being dishonorably discharged. But just as when it looked as that would be a matter of time...he suddenly quit service and disappeared. He (under questionable circumstances) purchased a small ship capable of dimensional travel, and started wandering aimlessly. He traveled randomly to both administrated and non-adminstrated worlds, taking part in random conflicts for pay. His travels eventually brought him to Earth's Uminari City, where he met up with Yamamoto Takeru, a young Japanese teen who turned out having a great deal of magical power. Even though he was still comparatively inexperienced, as well as not very skilled in melee combat, he trained Takeru to the best of his ability, and even purchased a device for him, called the Muramasa.

In his heart, he knew that Takeru would need TSAB training to fulfill his potential. But he was too proud to go back.

But a chance meeting with Hayate, who was vacationing on Earth for a few weeks, and a frank discussion with Takeru finally convinced Xalinth to return to the TSAB, and accept any punishment they would impose on him.

To his suprise, it was decided in his absence that he would not be penalized for his previous indiscretions, due to the influence of, to his suprise, Nanoha - the person who he antagonized most. He resumed his service in the TSAB from that point on, while Takeru Yamamoto began training in the Belka style as a melee attacker.

Spoiler for Xalinth Tamerlan Ratings:

Strengths: Exceptional ranged attacker. Great versatility and range. Very intelligent and cerebral mage, who is very precise in the way he consumes his magic; therefore, he can fight for a long time. Excellent at taking out opposing individual personnel. His ability to break defensive barriers with a single shot is very rare among mages and is incredibly useful as a support option. Can evade enemy fire with ease with his quickness and evasion.

Weaknesses:

Not a threat at all in terms of melee combat - in that area he's limited to little more than blocking and parrying. Very undefensive - he does not use barrier magic, and his barrier jacket is designed to provide the greatest amount of manuverability possible. Can bombard in a sense, but does not direct the shots due to the effort it would take at this point at his magical career. Certainly cannot "nuke".

Still very powerful. But definitely a step up from your old character.
However, passing S at 16 is tantamount to an extremely prodigous character. And the spell list is reather frightening since the weakest damage he can dish out is AA, which is already quite frightening.

The background may have some issues regarding the Church, but I'll let the others handle that.

The biggest issue here is the forgive-and-forget card that he recieved all too easily. I don't know about the TSAB policies, but being an outright antagonistic firebrand in almost any organization is highly frowned upon and is never let off the hook easily. Fine, I accept that he might get off the hook rather easily, but I don't expect his peers to let him go just like that.

Workers were able to get in a breather and relax from a hectic morning of work...and prepare for the work that was to come. For one Shamsel Nagisa it provided him an opportunity to rest his aching muscles.

"Ugh...with all the magic out there, why hasn't someone created some kind of Pain Suppression spell..."

Tray of food in hand, his eyes dart around the crowded room for someplace to sit. Morning training had been rather brutal for some reason and his body was making that fact well known. As with countless military structures, all training and scheduling was fairly consistent between the various departments. While it kept everything fairly organized, it also meant that practically the entire department was on lunch break. His watchful eyes spied through the sea of heads as he casually walked through the aisles with tray in hand.

'Ah, ha!'

He spots a small, empty table in the corner. With thoughts of relaxing on that chair taking precedence over the pain, he quickly makes his way over and claims it for his own. He leans back in the chair as a soft sigh of relief escapes his lips, the tray of food set on the table temporarily forgotten. The cool air coupled with his slumped positioned on the chair brought much needed relief to his aching limbs. Sadly, it would not last that long as the smells of the various dishes mingling in the air found their way to his stomach...which decided to voice its opinion.

"Argh...fine. Guess I should eat. Let's see...and today's plate of the day is: pasta."

All the noisy hustle and bussle of the cafeteria continued on as the Lieutenant quietly ate his meal. At least, it was a silent meal until a pair of arms wrap around him from behind.

"Hey Shamy~"

"Gah!" Dropping his fork, the startled mage spins around in surprise.

"Jun! Don't DO that! You trying to give me a heart attack or something?"

The purple-haired mage only giggled in response as he hops onto an empty chair next to Shamsel.

"What? I can't say hello?"

As the adrenaline slowly drained from his system, he could only shake his head in response. Over the short period of time he had been a member of Rogue Squadron, he managed to get to know his squad members and make new friends (some had joked about being relieved that he didn't decide to 'befriend' them, which he had yet to figure out what they were talking about). It had taken him a little longer to get used to Jun's...unique nature. Once he had gotten comfortable about him, he found the young Lieutenant to be a fairly likable guy.

Picking up his hastily discarded fork, he resumes eating his meal. Or at least he tries to.

"Hey, Shamy?"

With a mental sigh, he places his partially filled fork down and turns to face the Jun, "Yes?"

"I've been wondering for a while, but why is your Device's storage mode a ring? Most staff-type, especially for the guys, are cards or pendants."

Now that was a question he wasn't expecting. He sets his fork down and holds up his right hand in front of him.

"Ah, well that's because I wanted Tuebor's storage form to be like this."

He could see Jun tilt his head a bit in curiosity out of the corner of his eye.

"How come?"

"Well, you see back on my world my father was an engineer..."

The elder Nagisa peers out from behind the evening paper at his 9 year old son.

"Hm? What is it Sham?"

"Why do you wear a second ring?"

Ah, the mind of a child was a wonderful thing. Sometimes it would think of things at the most random times. He sets down the paper and points to the silver ring on his right hand's pinky.

"You mean this one?"

A quick nod was all he needed.

"Well, it's a ring daddy got for being an engineer and as a reminder for us."

Curious eyes stared back.

"A reminder?"

"Yup. You see, we wear it on our...um, writing hand so we'll always see it as we work. It reminds us of our duty as an engineer to design things to be the best and safest so no one will get hurt."

He watched silently as his son processed all of that information, hoping that he didn't make it all too complicated.

"So it's to help daddy remember to do his best at work?"

A chuckle escapes his lips. Ah, to be a child again.

"Yes, that's one way of putting it."

The young Shamsel flashes a grin and his thanks before running off, leaving his father to get back to reading the paper.

"So it was your father's?"

Shamsel nods as his eyes stray over to the silver ring.

"Yea...it was one of the few things I took with me from home. I probably pissed off a lot of the techs when I told them I wanted them to integrate the ring into Tuebor," he says with a chuckle, "I may not be an engineer like my father, but I do need to do my best as a mage to protect others. In a way, this ring helps me to remember that."

The younger mage nods, apparently happy at the explanation before standing up.

"Well, I need to get a few errands done before training. I'll catch you later, Shamy."

Waving goodbye to his squad member, he turns back to his meal. As he brings up his fork, his eyes stray over to the ever present silver ring.

'And it's also a permanent reminder of my failures...'

The rest of his meal was eaten in silence.

As a quick note, this ring actually exists and is given out by various organizations all over the world, known as the Iron Ring (although many are stainless steel now). Some believed that it originated from a fatal accident in the early 1900's with rings forged from the salvaged steel as a reminder to engineers of the failure so that they would make designs that are strong and safe.

You can certainly do battle scenes well.
The fight was intense (though they really looked like they were trying to kill each other already.) and the interactions was superb. Not even Franz's HOTBLOOD can stand up to Emili's TSUNTSUN.

I'm not really sure I want to use the "warhammer" as her device. For one, the design isn't quite to my taste. Also, its insanely huge and since she doesn't need a staff to fly like in Prism Ark its probably just better to pick something that's more simple. I'm thinking it should have a cartridge system too, though I'm two minds about that.

And really the device and the spell list is what was holding me back from posting for almost one whole week.

Well I suppose I HAVE been watching too many mahou genre titles in recent years. She's generally very curious, and her personality is so that she cheers up very easily, though that doesn't mean that she didn't grieve for the death of her parents. I just decided to write that part in more detail on a later date.

I originally intended her arsenal of spells to be fully area effect spells. But that would make her very inflexible, so I decided to do a range mage with an aoe spell or 2. The Genocide Shift thing was already mentioned by Flames, and I corrected it. And yeah I also think that Shifts are like variations of the same spell, with different effects.

Haha, the fight was supposed to be non-lethal, but my train of thought decided that Glen and Signum knew that you can't non-lethally injure someone when your weapon is a sword. They abandoned the concept about the time Signum charged him in the beginning.

Of course. If Signum was operating at her S+ potentional, she would have had Glen's soul for breakfast. In this fight, Glen was not limited and Signum was limited to AA, thus making them equals for the fight.

I think we're all like that. I'm making my OC's follow a parallel path to the story line so I don't have to write them in to most of my story path.. Well except when I want to anyway

The Riot Force 6 and the 21st Unit were exploring every inch of the capital city for clues of the Gale Whistler. The Phantom Squad and the 82nd Division also joined force, as well as the Linebackers. It was a race that would pit them against time and the unforgiving reality of the world.

“Did you find anything?”

Nanoha shook her head. “It’s still early. I can’t say anything about it.”

The Ace quartet continued their search around the boulevard. “Don’t you think it’s weird, Nanoha-chan?” Hayate asked as she picked up a piece of metal debris. “A Lost Logia belonged to a king, a boy said to be a Chronomancer, and a lost civilization serving as a planet’s protector? This is far more complicated than the Alhazard case.”

“I’m more curious of this place,” Keroko said and looked around. “Did anyone of us realize this city had used to be a battlefield?”

“How can you tell? There has been no recorded battle on Earth for four years.”

The Aces continued searching. This time, they headed to the mausoleum, walking past people who paid them no attention. The chill began biting them; did the citizens deliberately ignore them?

“[Have you found any clues, Nanoha-san?]”

“We’re heading to the cemetery,” Nanoha responded to Yuuno’s radio call.

“[The cemetery? Hang on. We have latest information about the Gale Whistler’s girlfriend. I’ll let Armstrong-san explain.]”

“Girlfriend?”

“[This is Armstrong. The name of the girl is Yuu. She perished while protecting the Gale Whistler from his berserk sister. She was buried along with thousands of citizens who died in the Battles of Kiev.]”

“No wonder why there aren’t any visitors here,” Hayate spoke. “This place brings them painful memories.”

“[According to documents we recovered, the Gale Whistler had used his Chronograph power three times. The energy reading taken by our agents during the event showed it exceeded all expectations.]”

“Hold on! You can’t be this serious, Ojiichan,” Keroko replied. “How can we be so sure he’s more powerful than anyone of us?”

“[Keroko, the boy is stronger than anybody else for one sole reason: his father was an Immortal. Added with his Chronograph circuit and his years of experience as a street combatant, he’s not to be taken lightly.]”

“Immortal… that doesn’t sound good, does it?” Hayate uttered.

“Where can we find him anyway, Ojiichan?”

“[We’ll search this city first. If there’s no trace of the Gale Whistler, then we’ll proceed to another location.]” The Aces did not answer the transmission. “[Ladies? What’s the matter?]”

“Someone’s visiting the grave. We’ll speak to you later.” Nanoha approached the lone woman they saw, who was at the time putting a flower bouquet on the tombstone. “Excuse me.”

The woman turned to Nanoha, revealing a pair of radiant sapphire eyes that had the sparks of acceptance. “Haii?”

Nanoha was startled. “You’re Japanese.”

She nodded. “Haii.”

“Sou…”

They could not believe it.

The woman they met at the cemetery. They never expected her, a Japanese citizen living in Ukraine, to be married to the Gale Whistler, let alone having a close relationship with him. And now they were at the woman’s residence, invited to an evening tea season.

“Err, excuse me, Kawasumi-san,” Nanoha said as to begin talking to her.

She put down the ceramic cup. “Mai is fine with me,” she spoke.

“Uh… yeah, Mai-san. We understand if you’d like us to accompany your evening tea, but you don’t have to.” Mai remained silent, even though her hands were preparing the tea. “Err… Mai-san?”

“Here.” One by one, the married woman served the Aces with the hot drink. “Oolong tea. It’s good to keep your body warm. Please make yourself at home.”

Not knowing what else to do, the Aces simply accepted the offer. Mai kept her eyes on one four women, watching as they were pleased with the tea. “It’s delicious,” Fate commented and wasted no time eating the home-made muffins. “Oishii!”

“Really?” Nanoha, Hayate and Keroko took the muffins, and they, too, were delighted. “The best meal we’ve ever had for a while.”

“It’s his last meal before he left,” Mai spoke, consequently catching the Aces’ attention. “He came here last month. That was the last time I saw him.”

“You could have asked him not to leave you,” Hayate said.

Mai shook her head. “I did ask him, but then I saw sadness coming from his eyes. It was like he had something to accomplish first.”

“Did he say anything else before he left?”

Mai nodded. “He said his heart was torn apart when he decided to leave the gunslinger girls. He was crying when he said that. I could tell deep inside of him he couldn’t forsake them.” She poured the tea into Nanoha’s cup. “That Hikki… he always hides his problems even though he can share it with me.”

“Mai-san, how much do you understand him?”

“As much as my devotion towards him as a wife,” Mai answered. “When I first met him, he was a typical care-for-nothing man with nothing but his life to enjoy. I knew noting of his distant past because he never told me of anything. But… he did mention Yuu.”

“His girlfriend…”

“He always said he owed her a lot for teaching him the meaning of life,” Mai continued. “He always talked about her as ‘the shy girl who willing became a patch to cover the hole inside his heart’. I guess I still have a lot to do to surpass his first love.”

“But we were told he was a Chronomancer. His power… it’s unlike anything-”

“Fate, I presume,” Mai uttered. “He would use his power only when people he cared of were threatened. It’s what makes him Hikki: his selflessness. But…” She frowned, and there was a profound melancholy coming from her eyes as she continued. “It’s also his greatest weakness.”

“His weakness?”

“If he wanted to protect someone, he would do so without even thinking of his safety. Even if he had to destroy himself in the process.”

The Aces said nothing. They felt the information would be enough to continue searching the runaway Gale Whistler. “Mai-san, we highly appreciate your cooperation. We’ll find him and bring him back to you. Definitely.”

“Wait.”

The Aces turned back to her as they were about to leave. “Yes?”

“I need to speak to Nanoha. This is between us alone.”

The Aces looked at one another. Then Nanoha nodded and asked her friends to wait at the outside. “What do you want to tell me?”

“It’s about Hikki.”

Nanoha sat next to her. “Hikki?”

The woman with the sapphire eyes solemnly nodded. “I couldn’t help him anymore,” she spoke. “When Claes came and told me what had happened, I cried. It wasn’t because he had broken his vow as a loyal friend, but because I could do nothing to help him.”

“Mai…”

Mai started to weep. “I felt I had failed him as his wife, his partner, his most relied on person. I felt helpless as I received news that he had attacked his handler in rage.” She continued sobbing, even after Nanoha securely held her in her arms. “The only thing I could do was not to ask him what he had done to Claes or anybody else. It was the best thing I could think of to avoid hurting his heart.”

“I’m sorry,” Nanoha muttered and softly soothed her back. “It must have been hard to swallow the bitter fact.”

“Nanoha… you’re the only one I can trust on to save him.”

Nanoha was shocked. If this had to be true, then she would face a task almost impossible to accomplish. “How am I supposed to save him when I know nothing about him?”

“You must do whatever you feel is the right thing to do,” Mai continued. “He’s running away from his pain. He’s running away from his destiny. Only you can make him accept his path.”

Nanoha slightly pulled away from her. “But what if I don’t make it?”

“You have to, or he will be crushed by his own desire to protect.” She stared into Nanoha’s eyes, as long as she could muster. “Please, Nanoha. This comes from a mother with twin daughters. If you refuse, then who else can I rely on?”

Nanoha returned the stare. “Mai…” Finally, she smiled and softly married the clenched the married woman’s hands. “I see if I can persuade him to talk.”

Mai smiled. It was faint, yet Nanoha knew it was genuine. “Thank you, Nanoha.”

// 21:30 hours. Onboard train bound to Irkust, Russia //

“Excuse me for being fussy,” Keroko grumbled. “But why are we headed east on train? We could’ve booked for instant flight, couldn’t we?”

“For one thing, it’s the worst winter season of the year,” Hayate answered as they were preparing their cabin for the night’s sleep. “All flights are either cancelled or have to be rescheduled.”

“Just when I thought I could brave the blizzard,” Keroko sighed and jumped into the mattress. “So what’s our plan?”

“Right now, we have documents on Hikki to study,” Fate said, finally referring to the Gale Whistler with his name. “But Ojiichan said we should use this trip to relax. Nanoha-chan, what do you think?” Nanoha did not answer, but instead was gazing into the snowy countryside. “Nanoha-chan? Something bothering you?”

“No! Nothing, really,” Nanoha replied.

Fate batted an eyebrow. “Really? Then how come you looked all glum when you met us? It must be about Mai-chan, isn’t it?”

“It wasn’t that!” Nanoha retorted and squealed when Fate suddenly pounced at her. “Fate-chan! I’ve told you it wasn’t personal!”

“Then you must tell us what happened between the two of you,” Fate insisted and proceeded to crawl her hands up to her chest.

“Iyah! Fate-chan, stop it!”

“This looks fun,” Keroko said and tossed pillows at Nanoha and Fate. Hayate followed suit, and before long the quartet was exchanging pillow bashes and waist tickling, frolicking and laughing with each other. They did not notice the arrival of the ticket inspector at the outside, who decided to leave them in their private world.

The fun finally stopped. The four Aces lay on the bed, their nightdress soaked in sweat and their breaths laboured. They later laughed at what they had been doing. “We still got the chance to have fun in the middle of a crisis,” Fate said.

Nanoha smiled. “We can’t help it, right?”

I am sensing EPIC buildup! And of course, the mandatory USB-style frolicking is a must. Though Fate's lines makes my eyes bleed. @_@

CHAPTER 5

Spoiler for part 1:

Yutaro woke up.

Today, he was feeling terribly exhausted. As if surviving the wrath of Mr. Von Dietrich and his dragon knights was not enough, getting through the party held at his apartment was very troublesome. What was worse, all the women he knew decided to stay there for a night, too tired to return to their quarters.

“Give me a break…”

He sat on the sofa. He looked at the floor: Takeru was peacefully dozing in Frieda’s embrace; Matilda was holding Keiko in a possessive manner, the former dressed up as a nun and the former having her kimono slip off her shoulders; the gunslinger boy’s sister Yumemi was sleeping in the security of Silberkugel’s warm cuddle; Galatea was sleep-sitting next to the veranda’s sliding door, Oxtongue Rifle Sao securely held in her arms. The Gemini Sisters were sleeping inside his room, leaving him with the only place to spend the night being the sofa.

“Will I ever survive this ordeal?”

He left the sofa and headed to the bathroom. Today, he was supposed to contact his Street Performers colleague to discuss their special Christmas concert at Tsukimura Town in East Mid-Childa. His head was terribly heavy, the effect of the alcoholic drink he drank after accepting Takeru’s challenge. “I think I need to clear my stomach after this…”

He opened the door.

And what greeted him was the hottest, sexiest, most intimate if not suggestively immoral sight he ever encountered.

“Oneechan, you aren’t supposed to put the lotion there…”

“Fufufufu, this is for what you did to me at the beach. Now, just let Oneechan rub it HERE and THERE…”

“Oneechan, people will be watching at us!”

“What are you talking about? There’s no one but us alone.”

“Oneechan! Ah, dame…”

“My cute Imotou is frightened? Don’t worry; Oneechan will be gentle…”

“Oneechan…”

The frolic stopped. The bubble-covered Gemini Sisters realized they were watched and turned to the horrified Yutaro. Their facial expression, shocked at first, turned into fury as they found out they had been eavesdropped.

“Uhh…” Yutaro spoke, gulping when he saw the girls’ wings and tails wagging beneath the bubbles. He waved to them. “Good morning?”

“IYAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!”

The Gemini Sisters’ scream was more than enough to knock Yutaro out of the sight; in fact, the Sonic Weapon LITERALLY sent him out of the apartment. The girls’ cries woke everyone up and they hurried to see the twins, now covering themselves with towels, standing next to the hole their scream had made.

Yutaro was hanging on a tree. His ears were bleeding, severed by the force of the Sonic Weapon. “What was that for?” he demanded.

Spoiler for part 2:

The Street Performers laughed out loud. Yutaro protested at them for not being helpful, and they kept laughing at his bad day, cheering for their inspiring guitarist.

“Come on, Yutaro! You’re already a married man!” the keyboardist said and tossed the beer mug into the air. “You shouldn’t be afraid of sleeping with your wife!”

“But I accidentally saw them taking bath…” Yutaro mumbled with tears. “The only thing I knew after that was… they screamed at me…”

“I’m sorry, Yutaro,” Freya apologized. “We didn’t mean to yell at you that loud…”

“And after that… Father-in-Law chased me around the apartment with his big sword…” Yutaro mumbled.

(Flashback of Mr. Von Dietrich and his dragon knights screaming bloody murder as they chased Yutaro across the housing estates. “WHY IT HAS TO BE ME?????” Yutaro cried in dismay.

“KOROSE! KOROSE! KOROSE!”)

Galatea sighed. “This is why you shouldn’t use your power in blind rage,” she reminded. Sao nodded, even as she was preparing breakfast for the Street Performers.

“I’m sorry, Oneesama…” Freya mumbled. Aura nodded as well.

Takeru glared at the guitarist boy. “You sure you didn’t intentionally eavesdrop them?” he asked.

“Why the hell would I do that?” Yutaro retorted. “Besides, with Freya and Aura doing THIS and THAT while they were soaked in BUBBLES, and with I heavily INFLUENCED by alcohol thanks to YOU, it was PURE accident!”

The nearby Belkan knights overhead the conversation. They bled their nose, thinking of the wild fantasy of the Gemini Sisters doing THIS and THAT while they were soaked in BUBBLES. “What if we have Gala-nee and Sao-nee thrown in?” one of them suggested and plugged his nostrils.

“Forget about them! We need Frieda, instead!” his friend protested.

“No! Just have ALL OF THEM doing THIS and THAT in BUBBLES!” his other friend insisted.

The Belkan knights became silent. The thought of the gorgeous females in an ORGY was too much for their poor mind to handle, and they were knocked out by the information overload. “Happy YARO…”

Takeru snapped. “Crap… Frieda in FOAMS?” he groaned and covered his bleeding nose. “Damn you, Yutaro, for making us have good morning fantasy…”

“That’s right,” the drummer said and thanked Sao for the sponge cake. “We’re supposed to have our concert this Christmas, right? Well, there is bad news: the hall we have booked is destroyed in fire yesterday night.”

The rest of the Street Performers moaned in dismay. “Aw, come on! We have worked hard for the concert, and now we have to cancel it?” the bassist grumbled.

“Where else can we make our reservation?” the keyboardist asked. “We don’t have much time for that.”

“Then allow me to help,” Galatea offered. “I may not know anything about musical concert, but I know the perfect place for such occasion.”

“Really?” The drummer sported a thumb’s up. “Now that’s what I call a miracle!”

Galatea smiled. “Of course, assuming Wakamoto Yutaro agrees to accept this offer.”

Yutaro sighed. “I already escaped death after accepted the marriage offer, and now there’s another offer I have to consider?”

“Yutaro, don’t make Oneesama upset,” Freya pleaded.

“Yeah, yeah, I know,” Yutaro spoke.

The Street Performer’s backup guitarist, who was earlier missing, was returning from his cabin when he accidentally tripped and spilled the mineral water he was drinking onto Freya. The girl’s legs suddenly glowed and grew dragon scales. “Oh, no!”

“Freya!” Quickly Yutaro picked Freya in his arms and covered her legs from sight. “It’ll be bad if someone sees this! Are you alright, Freya?”

“Yes, I am,” Freya replied. “Once my legs are dry, the skins will return to normal.”

“Got that!”

The Street Performers watched as the married couple left the care. “Whoa. Talk about mutual understanding,” the drummer said.

“I sense something suspicious,” Galatea spoke and excused herself.

“Everybody’s leaving?” Takeru asked.

The rest of the people turned to the backup guitarist. “Did I just do something?”

“I wonder how the children are doing right now,” Mrs. Von Dietrich said as she and Frieda were walking down the road with Mr. Von Dietrich and Reiher.

“I hope Yutaro won’t mind getting yelled in daily basis for accidentally stepping into their bath,” Frieda said. “The sisters always have the habit of spending too long time in the bathroom.”

Mrs. Von Dietrich laughed. “They never change, don’t they?”

Mr. Von Dietrich snarled. “I’m going to kill that maggot… how dare he touch my cute Freya and stain her innocence…” He turned to Reiher. “I hope you’re ready to assassinate him when he’s unprepared.”

“But Kaiser, how are we going to execute him when we’re in the Belkan knights’ territory?” the Afro knight asked.

Mr. Von Dietrich’s face twisted. “What territory? This is for my cute Freya! If you have to kill the knights as well, then do it!”

“Dear!” Mr. Von Dietrich and Reiher twitched at the call and turned to Mrs. Von Dietrich. “You aren’t going to plan something again, are you?”

Mr. Von Dietrich laughed. “What are you talking about, honey? Right, Reiher?” Reiher could only nod, and frowned afterwards when Mrs. Von Dietrich did not eat Mr. Von Dietrich’s excuse. “What is wrong with you, honey? I am the honoured Kaiser Von Dietrich! I won’t ever do such small thing--”

They heard Freya’s moans and Yutaro’s groans as they were seated under a tree.

“Damn it! This isn’t going well…”

“It hurts. Yutaro, please do it slower…”

Mrs. Von Dietrich and Frieda turned to the children. “Well, well. If it isn’t Yutaro and Freya.” They blushed at the intimate sight they were seeing. “Oh, my, children today surely don’t mind doing it anywhere…”

“They’ve grown up, after all,” Frieda sighed.

“They are filled with raging hormones, you see,” Reiher commented as he appeared behind Frieda.

Mr. Von Dietrich gaped. His face twisted many times before he grinned. “D… DIE!!!”

Yutaro noticed the death call. “Ah CRAP!!!”

The Kaiser withdrew the Zweihander. “I’m going to kill you! PREPARE YOURSELF!!!” he cried out.

“W-w-w-w-w-w-w-WHYYY??????”

Freya’s legs returned to normal. Reiher saw the transformation and immediately strangled Mr. Von Dietrich. “Kaiser, please calm down! He’s just drying Lady Freya’s legs! Please restrain yourself!”

Yutaro was smitten. “My… my saviour…”

“Oh, dear… he’s so handsome…” Matilda sighed as she suddenly materialized next to Yutaro, much to his surprise.

Freya and Mr. Von Dietrich started quarrelling with each other, while Reiher helplessly tried clearing the misunderstanding between them. Yutaro was seen arguing with Matilda before she was taken away by the worried Keiko. Mrs. Von Dietrich and Frieda took the chance to approach the seemingly defeated Yutaro.

“He’s not doing Freya?” they asked and looked down at the boy. “What is wrong with you? You have to try a little harder.”

Yutaro could only laugh. “That’s not an advice at all, Ma’am…”

Galatea took note of the attention and wrote down her observations. She turned to Yutaro, grinning at a new thought of the street performer.

“Phantom 21… Wakamoto Yutaro…” She nodded. “Let’s see if he has more secrets to share.”

Nice girl she may be, Nanoha is also a high-ranking officer in the TSAB, with all rights and responsibillities thereof. I won't stand for making her the cheap escape-from-jail-free card. Nanoha has far more brains then that.

Lunch time was a well-liked time of day at the TSAB. Actually, it was a well-liked time of day on almost any planet and dimension. It offered students a break from the rigors of the education system trying to cram information into their growing minds. Workers were able to get in a breather and relax from a hectic morning of work...and prepare for the work that was to come. For one Shamsel Nagisa it provided him an opportunity to rest his aching muscles.

"Ugh...with all the magic out there, why hasn't someone created some kind of Pain Suppression spell..."

Tray of food in hand, his eyes dart around the crowded room for someplace to sit. Morning training had been rather brutal for some reason and his body was making that fact well known. As with countless military structures, all training and scheduling was fairly consistent between the various departments. While it kept everything fairly organized, it also meant that practically the entire department was on lunch break. His watchful eyes spied through the sea of heads as he casually walked through the aisles with tray in hand.

'Ah, ha!'

He spots a small, empty table in the corner. With thoughts of relaxing on that chair taking precedence over the pain, he quickly makes his way over and claims it for his own. He leans back in the chair as a soft sigh of relief escapes his lips, the tray of food set on the table temporarily forgotten. The cool air coupled with his slumped positioned on the chair brought much needed relief to his aching limbs. Sadly, it would not last that long as the smells of the various dishes mingling in the air found their way to his stomach...which decided to voice its opinion.

"Argh...fine. Guess I should eat. Let's see...and today's plate of the day is: pasta."

All the noisy hustle and bussle of the cafeteria continued on as the Lieutenant quietly ate his meal. At least, it was a silent meal until a pair of arms wrap around him from behind.

"Hey Shamy~"

"Gah!" Dropping his fork, the startled mage spins around in surprise.

"Jun! Don't DO that! You trying to give me a heart attack or something?"

The purple-haired mage only giggled in response as he hops onto an empty chair next to Shamsel.

"What? I can't say hello?"

As the adrenaline slowly drained from his system, he could only shake his head in response. Over the short period of time he had been a member of Rogue Squadron, he managed to get to know his squad members and make new friends (some had joked about being relieved that he didn't decide to 'befriend' them, which he had yet to figure out what they were talking about). It had taken him a little longer to get used to Jun's...unique nature. Once he had gotten comfortable about him, he found the young Lieutenant to be a fairly likable guy.

Picking up his hastily discarded fork, he resumes eating his meal. Or at least he tries to.

"Hey, Shamy?"

With a mental sigh, he places his partially filled fork down and turns to face the Jun, "Yes?"

"I've been wondering for a while, but why is your Device's storage mode a ring? Most staff-type, especially for the guys, are cards or pendants."

Now that was a question he wasn't expecting. He sets his fork down and holds up his right hand in front of him.

"Ah, well that's because I wanted Tuebor's storage form to be like this."

He could see Jun tilt his head a bit in curiosity out of the corner of his eye.

"How come?"

"Well, you see back on my world my father was an engineer..."

"Daddy!"

The elder Nagisa peers out from behind the evening paper at his 9 year old son.

"Hm? What is it Sham?"

"Why do you wear a second ring?"

Ah, the mind of a child was a wonderful thing. Sometimes it would think of things at the most random times. He sets down the paper and points to the silver ring on his right hand's pinky.

"You mean this one?"

A quick nod was all he needed.

"Well, it's a ring daddy got for being an engineer and as a reminder for us."

Curious eyes stared back.

"A reminder?"

"Yup. You see, we wear it on our...um, writing hand so we'll always see it as we work. It reminds us of our duty as an engineer to design things to be the best and safest so no one will get hurt."

He watched silently as his son processed all of that information, hoping that he didn't make it all too complicated.

"So it's to help daddy remember to do his best at work?"

A chuckle escapes his lips. Ah, to be a child again.

"Yes, that's one way of putting it."

The young Shamsel flashes a grin and his thanks before running off, leaving his father to get back to reading the paper.

"So it was your father's?"

Shamsel nods as his eyes stray over to the silver ring.

"Yea...it was one of the few things I took with me from home. I probably pissed off a lot of the techs when I told them I wanted them to integrate the ring into Tuebor," he says with a chuckle, "I may not be an engineer like my father, but I do need to do my best as a mage to protect others. In a way, this ring helps me to remember that."

The younger mage nods, apparently happy at the explanation before standing up.

"Well, I need to get a few errands done before training. I'll catch you later, Shamy."

Waving goodbye to his squad member, he turns back to his meal. As he brings up his fork, his eyes stray over to the ever present silver ring.

'And it's also a permanent reminder of my failures...'

The rest of his meal was eaten in silence.

As a quick note, this ring actually exists and is given out by various organizations all over the world, known as the Iron Ring (although many are stainless steel now). Some believed that it originated from a fatal accident in the early 1900's with rings forged from the salvaged steel as a reminder to engineers of the failure so that they would make designs that are strong and safe.

Wow, this guy is screwed up. I think a bit of therapy is in order.
