HSI 23 - Agent Takako, Judo Master
Bit of a contemplative episode, but not a completely unhappy one. The way people just barely avoided who they needed to meet in Tokyo but found them anyway was fun to watch. Characters, being moved around like puppets on a string, only occasionally crossing each other. The movie arc came to fruition here, too. Hope the world's ready for Jiromaru. He may not have learned about restraint in his time here, but I think he has learned about humility, at least to some degree. A bit of a buildup episode, though, so next week will be a crucial turning point, what with declaring Madam Manager herself as the Final Boss. (The game must have been altered to SS13). |

Arghhhh previous preview was a troll, I admit I was expecting a confrontation with full of tension like in episode 12. So what did we get instead? An episode in which Ohana bonds with her aunt (Takako is your aunt? I'm so sorry!) in which males are pathetic once again (the director), Kou hangs out with Ohana's mum and with a nice Kou, Ohana confrontation cliffhanger (which was too convenient IMO, though not as bad as in episode 6 IIRC)
lol @ Tomoe in the video.

I bet nobody expected the direction of this episode to be like this. As usual, we got trolled again.
I give up trying to think about what will happen next. It's always something that I never thought of but yet, it still makes so much sense. Only thing is if I dun get a Ohana/Ko end, I'll rage, hard. |

Wow, I honestly didn't think they'd be following up on the whole movie thing. Glad I was wrong. So the question is, will they actually be able to get their money back?
Ohana knew the significance of Minko's putting spinach in the lunch (and more importantly; having tasted it herself). As we remember from earlier, Minko hates spinach, which is why Ohana served her spinach when she was mad at her. Presumably, the spinach in this episode was Minko's way of apologizing for her recent hostility. Good episode. Convenient, but not too convenient, IMO. After all, Ohana was on her way to meet her mom, so it's not that unbelieveable a coincidence that she'd run into Kou who just left from there. The episode where Tohru and Minko randomly found Ohana in Tokyo was worse in that regard.

I actually liked Mom's question where she asked Ko if his relationship with Ohana would've been better if Mom didn't flee that day. This is because it was actually Mom fleeing that jump started the relationship, as it made him realize his current attitude isn't cutting it and forced him to confess. I mean, who knows, if Mom didn't flee Ko might still be trying his 'roundabout' ways that wasn't working with Ohana's thick head and nothing would've progressed.

Nice of Minchi to make them lunches. Ohana's new aunt just kicked some ass. Never would have thought Takako could get things done. Nice of Ohana's mom to show Ko the footage. Looks like he's reinvigorated to go after Ohana. Nice ending with them meeting like that.

Ko nearly gets himself sexually assaulted by a milf.
That would have been a MUCH more entertaining episode than "use random test footage of the inn to compensate for Ko having no idea what Ohana's been up to" exposition episode. And Takako apparently knows Judo!

Takako can scream and that judo move That aside, Satsuki must have some amazing pheromones for Kou to blush like that "You're the most beautiful of all my friends' mothers". So Kou just admitted checking out all of his freinds' mothers This episode also showed that Satsuki does have a lot of love for Ohana and is always thinking of her. Not a great mother but still a pretty cool one. The ending with the lights coming on while they were on the bridge, it was just perfect. ahahaha no way, Satsuki is too good for him

I love Satsuki for asking Ko whether he thought she intended to watch porn with him, as that thought definitely crossed my mind (and Ko's apparently, that guy might not be as dull as I thought).
Tomoe's interview... I was pleasantly surprised the whole movie scam thing wasn't forgotten. Hmm, Takako isn't so bad after all. If she did something about that hair and stop spouting random english, she may become a decent character.

It's akin to disposable tissues. You use them then throw them away.
Ok. More seriously Ko wasn't actually to bad in this episode, when he actually is focused on. If he'd had more straight up role in the series, I might have found him more interesting as the love interest to the heroine. As it stands, even the relatively weaker stuff that focused around Kissiou come off as stronger/more important to me than the Ko sub plot. Not totally satisfying, but OTOH at least it seems that they seem to be trying to wrap up this angle relatively soon so they can transition back to whether or not the inn gets shut down and how the succession goes.

I love it when it's in, as you say, a contemplative mood too. And I don't think anyone's going to fall for that final troll preview. |

More Takako (>.>). I still cannot stand that woman, even though she's been less annoying recently. Despite her intentions(and success) at finding that guy, I don't feel it makes up for her lack of empathy of Ohana's situation while they were on the train.

- She came to Kissuiso not hoping to get her mama back, but mostly to have a roof over her head. Her only "hope" was to connect with the rest of her family. Who've all been distant jerks to her. She ended up choosing her job over her mom, and now that job is disintegrating under her feet through no fault of her own. (Though one could argue that if there's blame to be laid, some could be shoveled Takako's way... maybe. I still don't get why Sui decided to close the inn.) - It's true that the problems of the young aren't the same as the problems of adults. They're cared for. Fed, housed and all. But they also have a lot less power over their own circumstances. - You'd think someone who took at least a decade to go from acquaintances to husband and wife would be more sympathetic to Ohana's slow, awkward romance. |

My reaction to this episode:
Oh, this romance trolling... It is so delicious! Great, great episode. It did so many things right. It did such a great job of moving things into a Ko/Ohana direction... to either end things very effectively and believably that way, or to troll us yet again. Hugely surprising how the 2-part Movie Arc came up again, and Takako really shined in this episode, as did Satsuki. Ko himself came off pretty good.
