On a completely different topic... upon further investigation I think in general the girls are actually about as awesome shots as they are drivers.
I've been doing more research on the historical accuracy and hit rates for WWII and it seems that on average you could expect to expend somewhere between 10 and 30 rounds for each kill! Part of the reason is stress and skill, but the biggest reason is that despite the optical range estimation aids, confirming range requires at least 3 shots. If these numbers are anywhere near right, then I think I we have to revise our conventional thinking of "the shooting part of the combat seems realistic and the driving is god-like." I'd say driving speeds, driving skill, and shooting skill have all been amped up just about the same degree for dramatic purposes. Spoiler for for length of quoted material:

Further, generally, we complain about the HIT rate, not the destruction rate, so you don't need to count the rounds from the hitting part to the destruction part. I'll add to this a little table I found in Osprey's "T-34/85 vs M26 Pershing" about American statistics of first round hit probability in Korean War tank vs tank fighting (they were using Shermans and Pershings plus some M24s and the North Koreans are using the T34/85) - that is, what they and the NKs actually managed in combat (thus including all the dispersion, ranging and lead-estimating errors) rather than "doubling the recorded dispersion from a lab test" technique the Germans are using: 0-350yd: 84(US)/50(NK)% 351-750yd: 63/23% 751-1,150: 39/25% over 1,150: 16/0% Frankly, it'll be nice if the teams on average made the NK score - they were apparently given TWO practice rounds before being considered qualified. |

It seems that everyone agrees that the "doubling dispersion" system does not reflect reality... Specific numbers aside, I was just surprised to find that the historical record does reflect many shots fired for each hit, even in the best of scenarios. I guess I was so used to thinking "one hit - one kill" that I hadn't considered how many shots it would take to get that hit.

Starting from Shermans, Americans do get some stabilization, but it is quite primitive and as Sumeragi said, they almost certainly were smart enough to just stay still while they shot most of the time. |

I kid, my uniforms are 25th century types, but the Task Force Seven skirt definitely takes a leaf from this image.

Well this is interesting:
Apparently Nakagami Ikumi, aka Yukari's VA, will be doing commentary for a DVD about the JGSDF.

I'm joking of course, but don't hold your breath if you're hoping the Chinese won't milk that interpretation. Actually come to think of it I wonder how entrenched anime style artworks and anthropomorphic representations are in broader Japanese culture. If the country ever was moved to a war footing I wonder how much cuteness we'd still see. I'm sure we'd see civilian training materials with anime style, but given that the original Tiger I manual was done in cartoon style because of it's appeal, I could even see military training material targeting a conscript (or much larger scale volunteer) army in "Yukari style".

Spoiler for For work safety:
On your second point, a while back, the SDF also used some ancient Brit show called "Thunderbirds" for a similar end. Quite frankly, I much prefer they work with Girls und Panzer. |
