(L) Nadesico: Prince of Darkness [Spoilers]

Well, i saw the Nadesico series the day before yesterday. I then saw the movie and, like everyone else, hated the ending. I know some people are gonna say i'm kicking the dead again but I just need to write off the frustration .
I searched the internet for 1,5 day and learned quite a few things and have summarised everything below. A lot of the text has been copy/paste of info posted here in this thread since this thread is the only one that I found discussing this matter. I added here and there some additional info.

TIMELINE

Nadesico TV-series

After the series, the story continues with the game "Martian Successor Nadesico: The Blank of Three Years" on the Sega Saturn, Opening of the game and Ending of the game.
What happened:
- Peace is declared between the Earth and the Jovians. Both nations exchange populations.
- Yurika and Minato enter into a custaty battle over Ruri. Prospector asked for a contest to decide. Both Yurika and Minato will pull on opposite sides of Ruri's arm, and when Ruri cried out in pain, Minato let her go. Yurika won the contest, and Ruri was adopted by Yurika.
- Minato adopts Yukina (sister of her deceased lover).
- Megumi changes her name and hides her past with the Nadesico and became a pop star.
- The mess hall girls became an idol group, the Howmei Girls.
- Hikaru became a doujinshi writer/drawer.
- Akito became a cook and opened his own ramen restaurant.
- During the 3 year period, Negral's influence diminishes due to a merge between the Earth and Jovian military.
- Akito and Yurika became a couple and the two (including Ruri) live together, but her father refused to acknowledge their relationship. Akito and Yurika's father agreed to a ramen competition. If Akito can make ramen that he thinks is delicious, then he can marry Yurika. Akito made plain ramen and won.
- The events of the Gekiganger 3 OVA take place (year 2198, 1 year after the end of the TV-series)
- Akito and Yurika got married, adopted Ruri. Lived in a 'happy-comfy life'. All three worked at Akito's restraunt.
- During this time, a group called the Martian Successors attempt to control/perfect Boston Jump, and started kidnapping Class-A jumpers, especially the most powerful Class-A jumpers, Yurika and Akito.
- On their flight to their honeymoon, the shuttle carrying Yurika and Akito explodes. While it seems like they were killed, they were in fact kidnapped by the Martian Successors. Ines faked her own death shortly after they realised they were kidnapping Class-A jumpers.
- While the Martian Successors were trying to figure out how to use Yurika to control the box, they performed experiements on Akito, completely destroying his senses.
- Akito was saved by Negral, whom discovered the location where Akito and Yurika was held captive. However, Yurika couldn't be saved in time. To become stronger and save Yurika, Tsukiomi Genichirou (the person who kill his Jovian comrade during peace negotations) trains Akito to become a better pilot. Akito refuses to join Negral, so the two come up with a deal. Negral will provide information about the Martian Successors, and Akito will steal boson jump data from them. Akito agrees, and Nagare Akatsuki gives him Negral's newest Aestivallis Prototype-Frame: Black Selena. During one of his missions, Akito rescues Lapis, a genetically engineered child whom Negral tried to recreate to gain the same level as Ruri. Seeing Ruri in Lapis, Akito takes her in as his partner.
- With no where left to go, Ruri lives with Minato. Eventually, she leaves to rejoin the military, and was given command of the Nadesico-B.
- Ruri meets Harry Makibi, a genetic child just like her, whom Negral created in hopes of surpassing her. Finding companionship, they start living together.

the movie Prince of Darkness. (3 years after the end of the TV-series)

It was intended that the story would continue with a game "Martian Successor Nadesico: The Mission" for the Sega Dreamcast. Unfortunately, i had to read a lot of comments like "i played the game but my knowledge of Japanese is too limited to understand what was going on". Luckily, i did found out something:
- This movie was intened to be the first in a series of 3 movies. It is unlickely though that the 2 remaining movies will ever be made.
- there is a little footage of the game

- There's also a light novel called The Tale of Ruri from A to B, which can also be found translated in the internet, and gives a little of insight from the moment the crew arrives from their last battle, to the Shuttle explosion.
- In the game Ruri chases after Akito and in the meantime has to fight off 2 enemies. One is the Third Commander of the Martian Succesors, a black haired man who is leading the remaining forces of the MS. The second one is Sharon Wiedling, a blonde woman that is also sided with the MS. There is a secret ending though in which Ruri and Yukari do find Akito at the end, after Ruri defeats every other enemy but apparently, this is very difficult to achieve.
- Some say that the novel "Nadesico Novelte Plus", a double book released in 2006 by Tatsuo Sato to conmemorate the 10th anniversary of Kidou Senkan Nadesiko continues the story. It's the only official thing besides The Mission, that continues beyond the Movie, but there's really almost no concrete information about it, the only thing that can be told is that it's a small story, nothing else. The chance is thus small that it gives closure. You can check all of this at www.rurihoshino.com

It explains the events of the series and the movie in a different order, mixed with other series, but ends with an extremely cool and happy ending, with Akito living again with Yurika, and starting to recover his senses (PS> Both Gai and Tsukumo live to see the events of PoD, and they're like old war comrades ).

You don't need to read the previous ones.
Before you go saying what is obvious, yeah, it is a fanfic, but it's very well executed, bases itself around the Movie and The Mission (it leaves you to your imagination as of how to incorporate its events into the battles) and practically explains why Akito doesn't want to come back (something said in surprisingly small detail in the movie, but true). And it ends pretty fine.
PERSONNAL COMMENT TF: I DON'T LIKE THE ENDING, I FIND IT EVEN WORSE THAN THE MOVIE. The explanation of why Akito runs of makes kind of sense though. To avoid causing a commotion, I have no problem with the person writing that fanfic, I just don't like the way things end.

Also, the comidical ending for the movie coudn't be left out.

Yea, Sato confirmed that they wouldn't be making any more Stellvia or Nadesico stuff, which is really sad. I really wish they made a movie to conclude the series. I'm trying to forget the movie ever happened and just live with the tv series ending.

yeah it is pretty bad i read that he was pretty keen to finish up Prince of Darkness but too much time passed until talks got underway to finish it off.

Remembering my favorite animes of the past and was wondering if anyone has any updates about anything related to Nadesico. Particularly, after the movie ending, which we can all agree was not true Nadesico....

There was a video game called "Nadesico: The Mission" which was set after the Prince of Darkness Film and was supposed to be part 2 of a trilogy with the movie being part 1. However, the project got scrapped before they could make a part 3.

It was about the remnants of the Martian Successors rallying together to take control of Earth and Space. But, I'm not sure if Akito was mentioned in it. I've seen clips of it, but I haven't played it.

It have Nadesico movie route.
