Did anybody else notice that Hanekawa seems to have done "something" to tame Mayoi?

First Mayoi was hating on her, then Hanekawa extends her hand (which seems to be in the form of a cat's paw), then she pets Mayoi, and suddenly the kid is all tame and kind.

Could this be one of Hanekawa's powers (considering that in episode 1's OP video it was shown that her shadow was that of a cat)?

Hanekawa carries a regal and calming personality.

Araragi describes her as the president of all presidents.

She is very charismatic.

Well...that's what I thought initially as well.

I just wondered about a possible "power" because of the way they focused on Hanekawa's hand, and the "sparkling sounds" in the background while she was petting Mayoi.

But yeah, I guess if Koyomi was able to "tame" her by smacking her, Hanekawa petting her should work too. =)

I had the impression Hanekawa escaped as the result of her conversation w. Araragi-kun. She gained a new perspective that made her willing to return home.

Spoiler for spoiler:

@rocket: Wow. I never thought of it that way.

True, it can be that Mayoi had other "victims" in the past, and we just never know what happened.

Although in fairness to her, Araragi did mention that she was "preventing" other people from getting stuck with her by always saying "I hate you".

But still, if Araragi didn't have healing powers...

Totally unexpected OP.... o.O (and hilarious).

Not read the source material so I'm not entirely clear whether Mayoi *is* the snail or is simply cursed by one (don't tell me).

Episode played out like a mild Twilight Zone episode.... lots of excellent dialog, more annoying Shinbo effects. I hate to sound like a broken record, but he used to use the techniques sparingly to great effect in earlier works. Now he just dumps them all over everything. At least Mayoi forced an increase in actual animation this episode (though more animation of Senjougahara would be appreciated).

I have a question. After the part when Mayoi was biting Araragi and he knocked her out and his hand grabbed her chest and the panel with kanji showed up, GG subs translated that as blue fruit and Koharubi subs said unripe fruit. my guess is koharubi subs fits best but I wanna know which is right or if there is a pun in that? hope my question makes sense.

A pun or expression?

Sometimes in English people say "green" (a color) when they mean "unripe" (a state of readiness) even for fruit that doesn't turn from green to another color.

"Green troops" is synonymous with "raw recruits". Two metaphorical terms for lack of readiness. Maybe blue has the same connotations in Japanese?

青い can mean blue, green, or unripe, since things that are unripe are often that color, as rocket mentioned.

EDIT: For a fuller entry from a dictionary:

blue and green aren't differentiated in japanese.... so "green fruit" would probably have been a better choice (meaning unripe fruit in english).

Well, not in the same way we do in English. They do have words for green as opposed to blue ("midori" for example), but "aoi" can refer to both. I imagine it's the difference between "red" and "vermillion." Vermillion is a kind of red, but there are other reds. You wouldn't be able to tell whether something is vermillion or not if someone just says "red."

Fascinating. So it's like saying 'a cool color' which covers blue to purple. Does 'aoi' only apply to the blue-green portion of the spectrum?

Wow, the OP took me by surprised, really catchy, and like the first 10 seconds the most ^^

What do you do to solve a grave situation... ah of course we're still a capitalism society xD

"Loli battle the 2nd", I like how Arararagi describe the situation

Episode 4

-I’m enjoying the OST of this anime so much!! All the songs in this series are awesome!!
-Mayoi’s backpack is so cute!! And her song at the beginning of the ep was so amazingly adorable!!

-And is it me or Mayoi seems to have some chibi vampire fangs? Is she a vampire?

-Fouring, best new word I have learned in some time!

-Mayoi biting Araragi’s hand was so out of the blue. I wasn’t expecting her to do that at all.

-I really liked Hanewaka, she is so smart, kind, sweet and nice. She is very different from Senjo, but she is very cool too. And I think a little love triangle is developing between Hanewaka, Araragi and Senjo...
