Oh man. Everything about this anime just feels fresh. No idea what to expect in the coming episodes, which is really nice.

This anime feels like a fresh breath of air, I hope that the nonensical elements we had for the past two episodes won't go away now that MC goes on the road (also is it me or is MC quite normal compared to her family? Maybe plain, even).

Does this trip mean that they might end up as bests?

I'm getting a feeling Chiaya is going to become quite important later on.

Do you become best by getting one of those heart thingy? If so, does that mean Chiaya is a best already?

Ep 02

Okay ... I am still scratching my head here, but admittedly found myself smiling and with a furrowed "Wha?" brow throughout the course of the ep. Haak kinda summed my reaction up...not much of a handle on the plot, but thus far, for what it is worth, the characters and setting are charming and likeable and ... quirky in an endearingly weird sort of way.

Hopefully the real plot will begin to show now ... and I wonder if it will be a "unite everyone through rock band music performances" kind of thing? That's certainly what the OP had me wondering....

Hmm, maybe there's some other prerequisite linked to it.

Missed this moment. So it's safe to presume that she is the presidents daughter or younger sister. Same surname, same look and this foto...

Or. And some quote I found on forums:

Quote:
vonPeterhof said:
Not sure if this has been remarked on in the first episode's discussion, but apparently all the songs that have been used in the show so far (OP, ED and one insert song for each episode) are covers of songs by the late 80's-early 90's punk band The Blue Hearts. For comparison:

The OP - Hito ni Yasashiku
The ED - Tsuki no Bakugekiki
Ep.1 insert song - 1000 no Violin
Ep.2 insert song - Yūsha ni Akogarete
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhOMoTkYh9I - here's the OP for example.

I'd be very curious to know if the viewers who think RG feels so fresh have seen the Gainax and neo-Gainax shows it's trying so desperately to re-create.

Actually most of people compare this to FLCL and Kill la Kill.

The main difference for me, at least for now, it's that unlike KlK I find it actually watchable, despite having some doubts on the actual story.
And I've seen FLCL, but comparisons in style, at least in my opinion, are way off the mark.

This anime is a mess of flamboyant colors, ridiculous fight scenes, inappropriate humor, confusing flashbacks, unapparent plot and horrendous pacing. I enjoyed every single moment of it.

Which are, by their very definition, a Gainax and neo-Gainax series.

02 was better than 01

01 I was like "looks like a bunch of random elements thrown in, no idea what's going on"

02 for me was like "ohhhh I see...."

If people compare it to FLCL and KlK, it's quite likely they've seen said series, wouldn't you think?
I think it's too early to write this off as a desperate attempt. For me it's a very fun watch, with a nice setting, music and animation and likeable characters. It may not be 'new', but it sure feels fresh between all the run of the mill harem shows and the umpteenth LN adaptation.

Rather than a desperate try at recreating something, we could also see it as a continuation of an existing style / trend which Gainax evolved in a way.

Rolling girls doesn't feel gainax-y to me. It has better animation than most gainax shows.

Can't wait to see where the plot is going now
