Strong seconds to Dennou Coil and Mushishi

Throwing out (some more):

Kino no Tabi
Scrapped Princess
Noein
Ergo Proxy
Saiunkoku Monogatari

I'm sure I could go on, but I will stop and let others (if there are others) step forward an recommend away...
(in retrospect, the OPs topic might be a little too broad...or maybe I just like coming up with longish lists of good series )

Well, I hate to point out that the term "real" doesn't really go with anime. However, here are some good ones that fit your description:

Aria the Origination
Black Lagoon
Blassreiter
Blood+
Devil May Cry
Ghost Hunt
Macross Frontier
Memories Off Complete
Nabari no Ou
Persona: Trinity Soul
Seto no Hanayome
True Tears
Vampire Knight
Yakushiji Ryoko

I'm not sure what you mean by "real" as you have FMA and DN there...

but according to Genshiken, you might also like Honey and Clover, Nodame Cantabile and Moyashimon. College animes with real life concerns and anxieties and romance and great comedy.

Major - Very realistic sport-anime (baseball). If you enjoyed the sport/training/tournament element from Hajime no Ippo you're sure to enjoy Major. The story starts when he's 5 years old and keeps going. Atm he's about 19-20 and the show is still going.

Prince of Tennis
- Best sport anime ever made, also fairly realistic apart from the overall skill-levels (and some techniques) are abit on the extreme side, especially when the OVA's start.

Anyway, mentioned these two because you already had a few sport-animes in your list and these are similar.

Since you've got some super-natural animes in your list too I'll also suggest the greatest overall anime ever made, Hunter x Hunter.

I don't know about "real", but Kino's Journey would be one of the most intelligent anime I've seen. So I second all the recommendations for that.

I cant believe no one recommended hikaru no go yet. Its most intelligent anime out there.

Hikaru No Go

I enjoy suspense, romance, comedy, otaku, smart and ecchi animes.

You enjoy suspense - this anime almost has more suspense than the end of ep hajime no ippo fights
Does not have much romance.
Good comedy.
Most intelligent anime I have seen (as he gets older... he grows older as anime goes on)
No ecchi.

So if thats what you are looking for go for it.

Go watch that quick so you can say your an anime fan

trust me on this one. that series - one word - awesome

let me know how it goes.

P.S. I love those 3 to

kaiji
akagi
one outs
