Honestly, the one I support the most isn't in the main Harem. It's Annie Charlton, aka, John Pluto Smith. She's just someone I want to be with Godou, and she deserves a happy ending.
I don't know if im the only one out of the loop but the series is ending on volume 21, not 20. Im pretty sure I saw a post somewhere here that said 20 was the final volume. I was reading the volume 20 synopsis and I thought to myself, this ending sounds horrible if it's describing an end since it doesn't sound like an ending at all. Then I recently got to the afterword of 19, and I learned I have to wait 2 more volumes...somewhat relieved and disappointed. Well my fault for not confirming the facts.
Yeah, one volume for the Campione War, and one for the fight against the King of the End. It's just, it doesn't seem enough. Mostly because of the scale of the Campione War. And if what was said a few posts ago is correct, those two things could be combined into one volume, with volume 20 being short-story filler. While would make the compression of the end even worse.
Hey, I'm in Ena camp as well, the "threesome" in vol 16 nearly broke my heart, gurl definitely need more attention
I am in the Ena, Erica, Mariya sisters, Lua Hao and Athena camp.
A sister sandwich sounds good. (Perhaps when Hikari is older) I mean who could resist?
Ena is bound to have a short life due to Divine possession... So there is no time to waste. Well all of them will most likely aside from Campiones.
I mean who knows how long they will live? Lua Hao and Aisha are over 200 years old and Voban is an ancient relic. haha
Side note: I wonder if two campiones have a child what that child will become.
I wonder what a honey moon for campiones would be. Destroying towns? Fighting each other to the death then being intimate?
As for Annie Charlton isn't she in love/ have a crush on her right hand man? I forget his name. Then again when she was w/ Godou she was thinking how dreamy and many he was. e.e
She deserves a happy ending but I don't want her w/ Godou.
^ On Annie Charlton: She had a crush on her "right hand man", but she was heartbroken when he decided to return to his ex when he thought John Pluto Smith was dead. Then she went to Japan, met Godou and became smitten with him.
Basically, how she's presented, Annie's relationship life is, at best, rocky, at worst, disastrous. To the point where she's hoping relationships started as John Pluto Smith due to fear can develop into relationships with the normal her.
The 7 Campioni (should use the proper plural form from Italian) gather in Tokyo. All 6 of them had reached the conclusion that Aisha must be the first to be "dealt with."
After unsuccessful individual attempts to take out Aisha (who is aided by Godou), Luo Hao and Voban decide to join forces until everyone else is eliminated.
The volume ends with Doni stepping out and offering Godou a young generation alliance to oppose Voban+Luo Hao.
In greater detail:
Spoiler for longer summary:
Chapter 1 - Prelude of Civil War
Part 1
Annie Charlton is walking in Los Angeles late at night to pay Bianki the Mystic Reader a visit. (David Bianchi from Volume 11 is apparently spelt correctly as Bianki.) Originally a mage of prestigious and orthodox origins, due to a past mistake, Bianki was now regarded as a criminal by European magic associations and so he fled to North America and became an evil terrorist in the magic world. Low-lifes like him had gradually increased after the demise of the King of Flies organization and Annie was investigating them.
Bianki does a physiognomy reading and notes her abnormal luck, an indicator of her existence transcending the bounds of human fortune and misfortune. Annie smiles faintly, concluding that he must have met one of her peers before. Bianki attacks with a fiery explosion but Annie simply transforms into JPS. Firing a blank from her gun, she takes him out with a shockwave that also extinguished the flames as well... Not to mention shattering all glass and fragile objects in its wake.
Part 2
Back home, Annie indifferently dismisses the damage, weighing it against the potential harm an evil sorcerer could bring to the citizens of LA. Although she believes it was a necessary price to pay, she promises to remind Smith to be more considerate of consequences for ordinary folk, speaking as though he was a different person.
When Professor Best points that out, Annie said nonchalantly that it's better to consider them separate since Smith's action philosophy and morals are completely different from hers.
"......"
"I am certain that Smith would agree too."
Best and Dennis (the butler) give up, because they've repeated the same conversation many times for the past few years.
Princess Alice had previously informed Annie about Rama's effects on volcanic activity and global warming.
Last night, Annie had predicted that the godslayers were going to fight among themselves until the final survivor became the representative to take on Rama.
"Smith and I have no choice but to participate... in this civil war between Devil Kings."
"Is there no other option?"
"No. You should know by now, right? Putting myself aside... Smith cannot possibly come to a compromise with the other Campioni."
Annie sighs that a civil war between the seven Campioni could destroy the surface of the Earth without needing to wait for Rama's return. Hence, her only path is to emerge swiftly as the victor, so as to reduce collateral damage to a minimum.
She concludes that Aisha is the key, and everyone but Aisha is aware of that.
Part 3
Scene shifts to Pandora. She wonders why Annie has come to visit the Boundary of Life and Immortality (also known as the Netherworld or the Astral Realm) when civil war was about to break out. Of the seven godslayers, many of them were capable of traveling to the Netherworld, such as Aisha's fairy corridors or Luo Cuilian's daoist arts, but none of them were able to "planewalk" as casually as Annie's authority usurped from Oberon, which made her one of the Fairy Lords. Hence, of all her adopted children, Annie was the one that Pandora had the most contact with.
Called Fairy Lords, the ruling elite of the Netherworld included beings such as "former heretic gods that had distanced themselves from the mortal world," "demigods that had yet to reach the realm of the gods but possessing high spiritual rank" and "former humans who have forsaken their bodies of flesh to become immortal."
These beings would often set their own territory as "forbidden zones" which prevented others from teleporting into them at will like the rest of the Netherworld. To reach such zones, one had to teleport to a nearby place then travel on foot.
Deciding that there was no telling whether she would survive the civil war, Annie was visiting various Fairy Lords to give a heads up and settle matters.
Having visited Princess Salome and Boreas the North Wind, JPS was on the way to Shaitan's palace when Pandora sends a butterfly to say hello.
The conversation ends with Pandora pointing out that Aisha is the weirdest of the old generation while JPS is the weirdest of the young generation, each holding rather special authorities, but it's hard to say which of these two held the advantage.
"In any case, no matter who ends up fighting Prince Rama, none of you are allowed to lose to him. Understood?"
Indeed, although it was doubtful whether techniques for arbitrary access to the Netherworld would constitute a trump card for victory...
It was still an advantage the other Campioni lacked.
The trump card belonging to JPS only. The question was when to use it—There would be only one chance...
Part 4
3 days after the showdown with Rama, Godou was visiting Kabuki-chou in Shinjuku with Ena. Lu Yinghua had abandoned his base of operations, disappearing with his subordinates, and he was not picking up Godou's calls. Luo Hao had left the Skytree too.
During their conversation, Godou remarks that in his personal opinion, Luo Hao and JPS are the most trustworthy, but ultimately, he cannot trust any Campione except for himself. He also asserts that he should be the one to settle things with Rama because out of the current seven, he was the first to fight Rama. Not just for his own sake, but for Rama's as well.
Just as they realized they had walked into a part of town where there were many couples, Ena began to act shy and embarrassed, hugging Godou's arm tightly, then a call from Liliana interrupts them.
Part 5
At the park where Godou had his battle with Athena in the past, Godou and Ena met up with Erica and Liliana. Yuri was still staying in the Netherworld.
Previously, Athena had refused to listen to Godou's repeated attempts to convince her, who was on the brink of death, to relocate to the Netherworld. However, she suddenly changed her mind and agreed to it this morning.
An owl flies by and Godou's body and mind immediately becomes ready for battle, a sign that a heretic god was nearby.
Godou meets Athena in her 13-year-old form at a narby pier to see her off before she sets off for the Netherworld.
The History Compilation Committee had evacuated and purified the area to make it easier for Athena to use her powers. Godou asks why she changed her mind and she says she had a premonition.
Warning signs of calamity. Apart from the imminent battle between godslayers that was about to take place, something else anomalous was making its move at this city.
As the goddess of wisdom, divine oracles were part of her authority.
Undoubtedly, someone among the seven godslayers must be responsible. Or perhaps, all seven are.
Godou wonders if the calamity is happening from the side of the Netherworld, which would explain Athena's sudden change of heart.
Athena scoffs with a cold smile.
It was the last chance for her to deliver a blow of retribution against Rama. The goddess was embarking on a journey to seize an opportunity for revenge rather than to prolong her life.
Godou asks her to protect Mariya Yuri but Athena states that she has no reason to do something so trivial.
"......" How typical of Athena, Godou thinks, shrugging and did not plead any further.
This time, Athena says "Goodbye, Kusanagi Godou" in contrast to last time when she said there was no need for farewells.
Her physical body crumbles into scattering sand that rides upon the night breeze. A blue white glowing orb emerges, her soul, flying towards the mouth of the Sumida River, towards Tokyo Bay.
Since ancient times, the realm known as the ocean had always been regarded as a metaphor for another world.
The near shore vs the far shore. Paradise and utopia existed on the far end of the ocean.
Was this why the seaside was chosen as the place to start the journey, to facilitate traveling to the Netherworld?
"Looks like the journey has begun."
Amakasu Touma speaks to Godou and reports that his "friends" have arrived in Japan, one after another.
Alec the Black Prince.
The King of Swords, Salvatore Doni.
Madame Aisha.
And the guest star, Marquis Voban.
Apart from Luo Hao and Godou, who were already in Japan, that left only JPS whose whereabouts were unknown.
Godou unintentionally stuck his hand in his pocket and found a folded piece of paper that had not been there previously.
Written in beautiful handwriting was a short message from a certain someone.
Chapter 2 - The Seven Warriors, All Gathered
Part 1
Iceman is angrily denouncing Alec.
It turns out the Black Prince had "taken care" of Iceman's fear of flying by knocking him out to take him onboard a flight to Japan. There was no time for ship travel.
Spotting the Tokyo Tower, heavily damaged from the battle between Godou and Voban six months ago, of which repairs had begun but were far from finished, they begin a discussion of the Campioni.
Alec reaffirms that Aisha is the top priority target.
Lu Yinghua shows up with an invitation from his master to the Black Prince.
Part 2
On her grandfather's orders, Liliana is at a grand mansion in Roppongi. A certain European country's ambassador had lent their embassy to Voban as a temporary residence.
Voban has a message for Liliana to pass along to Godou, declaring Godou as one of his enemies and that he would hunt him down in their next fight (the same words he had spoken at the end of the last battle).
Liliana inquires about Madame Aisha, but Voban says she disappeared recently. He realizes Liliana has met finally met her and offers his sympathies.
He takes out a letter from Luo Hao, the same type that Godou received the previous night, and shreds it, remarking that their reunion would come sooner than expected if Liliana's master were to accept the invitation too. A fun night was ahead of them.
Meanwhile, Aisha is working at a maid cafe in Akihabara because she had lost her purse when she first arrived in Tokyo, after leaving Onii-sama's temporary residence.
It started with her discovery of a fish in the kitchen, inspiring her to make a traditional English fish pie to show her gratitude. For some reason, the stove caught fire and after a commotion, Aisha left the house impulsively.
Not to run away, but to buy a new stove.
Aisha ended up discovering her purse was missing when she arrived at a home appliance store in Akihabara.
Noticing a recruitment flyer, she came to a maid cafe.
The manager in charge of the job interview was in his twenties or thirties.
"Eh, no resume!? No residence or references!? You're not even a resident of Japan!? Then fine, working part-time for the sake of sightseeing in Japan, I guess? Nationality counts as British... What do you mean by 'counts as'? Experience as a real maid rather than at maid cafes, where? Age is seventeen--a minor huh?"
The numerous problematic issues placed the manager at wit's end, but on account of Aisha's smile and sincerity, he readily agreed to hire her.
He even allowed her to sleep in the shop. "Since you have no place to stay, just spend the night in the shop!" What a nice guy.
Thanks to that, Aisha had been sleeping peacefully in the cafe after closing shop for the past few days.
There was no bed, but she managed to obtain many cardboard boxes from nearby appliance stores, for free, of course, paying only with smiles.
"It's much warmer than tattered sleeping bags and cheap blankets. I used them a lot back when I had to stay overnight at my workplace, roughly six or seven times a week..."
This was recommended by one of the male kitchen staff, a guy in his thirties who had been working at a bishoujo game company only three months earlier, a job that Aisha had little clue what it was about.
Meals were provided by the cafe.
As for bathing, she only needed to go to the neighboring Ueno for public baths.
Her colleagues, the other maids at the cafe were very friendly too. "Ehh!? You've never used cellphones or computers at all, Aisha-san!? You're just like my granny, hohohoho~" An unintentional comment ended up dealing a heavy blow to Aisha.
Aisha thinks to herself how fortunate she is to meet friendly people no matter where or when in the world.
She learned all the required skills of a Akihabara maid, including pouring ketchup on omelet rice, special incantations and greetings for customers. Despite falling over occasionally when carrying orders to tables, breaking dishes and bowls and other accidents, things were going smoothly.
"Oh my? My reason for being in Japan... What was it?"
Finding an idol tryout flyer left by a customer, Aisha takes it as an oracle and discovers her purpose in life: to become an AKIBA idol to spread a message of love and gratitude to everyone in the world—
Just as she resolved herself, folding the flyer neatly and was about to place it into a pocket in the front of her maid uniform, she finds something in there already. An envelope delivered by mailing magic? Reading the contents, Aisha is shocked.
Meanwhile...
"So tell me, what kind of madness has struck you this time?" said Salvatore Doni's best friend coldly.
Andrea Rivera, the capable representative of all Italian magi as the Sword Campione's aide (or chaperone).
"Setting out to sea during the freezing winter month of February on this old-fashioned boat to go fishing... Absolutely nonsensical. What's the point?"
"I simply follow the voice of my heart, Andrea."
It turns out that Doni thinks that fish is better when you catch them personally and he's hoping to try his hand at preparing puffer if he's lucky enough to catch one. Naturally, Andrea points out that puffer preparation requires a specially licensed chef, not to mention professional knowledge and cautious judgment, all of which Doni lacks.
Hidden among the fishing gear was a cloth bag containing an inscription-less Japanese sword. Many of these were forged during World War 2. Even though it did not have a famed swordmaker's pedigree, the sword was sturdy and sharp, plenty good enough from Doni's perspective. Doni reveals that he developed an interest in the katana ever since he read English-translated manga in the past.
Doni says he's ready for the civil war any time now that he has a sword and all he needs to do is relax and enjoy fishing in the mean time.
At that moment, a sea gull flies past and drops something onto the fishing boat.
An envelop.
Part 3
That night, Godou visits Haneda Airport at the appointed hour. Haneda Airport featured four runways labeled A, B, C, D. Recalling that in Chinese culture, the north star was a symbol of the heavenly emperor, Godou picked runway B in the north.
Standing in front of him was a peerless beauty.
Dressed in Han clothing, she seemed like a celestial maiden who had descended upon the Earth. Instead of being gentle, the smile on her face was stern like a warrior's.
Alec arrived as well. Then Doni, followed by Aisha in her maid outfit.
"I am not your older sister. Please do not fabricate facts."
"Here you go again. Onee-sama and Onii-sama keep saying this, how troubling for me... But no matter. I know very well~"
"These cold words from both of you are filled with affection. You two have watched over me with gentle eyes throughout the years and I will forever admire you two as my spiritual sister and brother."
Voban arrives, then finally JPS, fashionably late as usual.
Luo Hao presides over the proceedings, but responses were unnecessary for the "discussion."
"Regarding the 'King of the End' Ramachandra and the fearsome great ritual of the covenant... Am I correct to assume that none of you here require an explanation?"
"The strategy the seven of us ought to undertake to oppose the great hero... A discussion would not be necessary, either, right?"
"In that case, when shall we begin?"
Voban suggests for them to enjoy this one-time game fully, to begin at midnight.
Luo Hao and Doni swiftly agree. Alec shakes his head and Godou sighs, but neither hides their willingness to fight. JPS comments, "just as predicted." Aisha tearfully pleads that fighting among themselves is wrong and what they need is love but Luo Hao and Voban are already departing.
The seven Campioni depart one after another, leaving Kusanagi Godou as the last one remaining.
Part 4
Liliana and Erica meet up, reporting that they've lost Aisha's trail. Ena decides she has to leave for a while in order to retrieve a treasure so that she could be of help to Godou at critical times of crises.
Now that the Campioni had left, Haneda Airport was reopened. Due to public displays of affection from foreign couples around them, Godou and Ena are swept up in the mood for a passionate goodbye kiss and hug initiated by Godou. Ena feels sorry about doing this without Yuri, but Godou tells her not to worry and that he'll take on everyone's complaints and resentment.
Ena's parting words bid Godou to survive the one or two days she'll be away.
Chapter 3 - Arrival of the Zero Hour
Part 1
Aisha wanders the streets of Shinjuku and ends up getting invited to drink with random friendly people one after another. Midnight arrives without her noticing.
Doni is taking a stroll with Andrea along the warehouse-lined shore of Shin-Kiba. He intends to conserve his energy so as to enjoy the endgame and win the civil war then proceed in triumph to challenge the strongest war god.
Part 2
Godou is at a baseball stadium with his two knights and Sayanomiya Kaoru, three minutes before midnight.
As predicted by Godou, Voban and Luo Hao are the first to make moves, but the Marquis is the easier one to track. Just as Godou and his knights head off to Shinjuku, Yuri delivers a warning from the Netherworld, asking him to be careful of other warning signs in addition to the Marquis...
Part 3
Humming to herself, Aisha is strolling happily along the street, dressed in her maid outfit with a red hood that had been given to her at a bar.
People around her start changing into werewolves, glaring at her, baring their fangs, about to pounce.
However, she pleads with them to calm down and be friends.
Voban appears and calls her a witch capable of charming all creation. With a flash of his emerald eyes, he turns the werewolves in statues of salt.
Voban restates his determination to eliminate her. In her thoughts, Aisha laments the tragedy befalling the two of them, almost siblings that they are, a cruel trial of destiny! Weeping, she encourages herself that this tragic misunderstanding will be cleared up one day. In the mean time, she must live strong and survive.
Aisha suddenly has an idea and runs towards a werewolf that had been transformed from a muscular young man. Using her healing authority, she reversed the salt transformation and had the werewolf carry her to run away. Even with Aisha on his back, the werewolf could still jump over four meters.
Voban shrugged, his memories still vivid of how Aisha had made fools out of him and Luo Hao at London. Fairy's Corridor. This authority was the reason why Aisha was the enemy that needed to be the most wary of.
He summons his wolves to begin his hunt.
Part 4
Aisha laments how serious Onii-sama is this time.
While the werewolf continues to run and jump from rooftop to rooftop, she notices salt statues everywhere.
Eventually, the healing authority wears off and the werewolf turns back into salt. The ground is covered with vines.
Suddenly, a vine entangles Aisha's feet and suspends her in the air. Reeled in like a fish, she is brought to Shinjuku Gyoen, a large park where all the trees have grown to heights of 50 or 60m.
Part 5
Earlier, Luo Hao had used her authority on impulse against a boring park that merely consisted of a bit of open ground with a few trees, crammed into a gap in the city that was filled with stone.
Superficial nature. Foolish masses deceived by such superficiality.
Shinjuku Gyoen was transformed into a demonic forest, practically a single organism, tasked with capturing and killing the witch Aisha. Although Aisha was the priority target for elimination, what Luo Hao looked forward to was the battle against the five other Devil Kings.
Aisha was just about to be devoured by a giant venus flytrap (her charm authority managed to slow down but not stop plants) and various mutated vegetation when Godou cuts down the man-eating plants with the golden sword.
Aided by Yuri as the ultimate scout and instructor, Godou had activated the Warrior, but only using thirty orbs of light unlike the times when he was fighting gods or Campioni.
Using the Sword's spell words, he sliced apart Luo Hao's incantation for pouring magical power into the forest. He then called out to Luo Hao and said he was prepared for an all-out fight, but warned that Voban would gladly prey upon the two of them once they wore themselves out.
Luo Hao's "eye" disappears from over Shinjuku Gyoen as a sign to accept Godou's proposition for a temporary ceasefire.
Part 6
Aisha takes the opportunity to free herself.
Using his spiritual link to Mariya Yuri, Godou mentally visits the Netherworld to meet her face to face, rather than communicating telepathically as they've been doing.
They share a tender moment with passionate kiss and hug.
Part 7
Luo Hao and Voban meet up and decide to eliminate everyone else before settling their old feud.
Chapter 4 - Deep Chaos
Part 1
On a certain mountain west of Tokyo, the Great Sage Equaling Heaven, Perseus and Hanuman are looking at Mount Fuji. The Divine Sword of Salvation is embedded in the snow, glowing with sacred light. However, a black stain is spreading, covering the middle of the blade to the hilt.
Lakshmana had ordered them to bide their time to strike when the godslayers were weakened by infighting.
The Great Sage and Perseus make snide comments to express their displeasure towards such inglorious tactics, but comply because they are kept alive by the golden discus.
The darkness spreading on the Divine Sword of Salvation squirms as though mocking the heroes.
Part 2
Aisha enjoys a dip in a hot spring followed by a massage before changing back into her red riding hood + maid getup.
Alec is the first to find her and asks her to go on a trip, such as far back to ancient Earth before mankind's existence or hibernate in the depths of Antarctic ice without traveling through time...
How cruel! But before Aisha could protest, Godou arrives and shares his idea that Aisha could take all the Campioni, except for the one who was going to fight Rama, on a trip through time so as to counter the great ritual of the covenant.
Alec sighs at Godou, stating that he has overlooked two important elements. The first, he'll realize soon enough. The second was that Aisha would be the one leading the journey as the navigator.
Alec concludes that it is safer to have Aisha go on a trip alone instead of trying to send the other Campioni to another era.
Godou agrees but says he won't continue a discussion found on hypotheticals. Godou declares that if Alec is going to take Aisha away, he'll have to go through Godou first.
Part 3
Erica and Liliana are watching Godou's meeting with Alec and Aisha. This leads to a conversation about the Campioni. Liliana's instincts tell her that it'll take at least half a year for affected plants to return to normal. (The Sword cuts off their magical power, but the overgrown plants retain their size.)
The topic of limits to a Campione's power comes up. Ever since the destruction on Sicily caused by the White Stallion, Godou has been subconsciously suppressing the White Stallion's power. Till now, he has never unleashed the White Stallion fully.
In contrast, Salvatore Doni's sword authority is far too plain. Liliana remarks that there are a number of suspicious cases and Erica concurs that a lot of it is due to Andrea's information control, swiftly covering up all the messes created by his liege.
On ground level, Godou was facing off against Alec, shielding Aisha behind him.
The plan was for Liliana to intervene at an opportune moment to use her flight magic to transport Godou and Aisha away to somewhere deserted.
Just as the two knights were about to take action, Lu Yinghua arrives.
Part 4
Erica takes on Lu Yinghua while Liliana jumps down from the roof, but she ends facing an arguably more formidable foe, Sir Iceman, the only man recognized as a worthy rival by Paolo Blandelli.
Godou immobilizes Alec using the underground Ama no Murakumo, which could still exert gravitational attraction even though the Storm Bringer was still in the preparation stage.
Alec's style is to carefully observe the enemy before making a move for an instantaneous dramatic reversal, but it was thanks to his wariness of the Storm Bringer that he did not take aggressive action right off the bat and was caught by Godou's trap.
Godou intends to stall for time but Alec points out that he brought his own subordinate and also spotted Lu Yinghua nearby, so Godou's companions won't be arriving any time soon.
With the distinctive sound of boots, JPS arrives and decides to join Alec for a 2 vs 2 to make things more lively, agreeing that the uncertain element of Aisha needs to be eliminated first.
Alec invokes divine speed and abducts Aisha, disappearing. Smith had drawn his gun, aiming at Godou, which was why the Storm Bringer's gravity could no longer counter Alec's divine speed.
Godou summons the Boar. JPS transforms in the black demon bird, causing a 4.0 earthquake.
Part 5
Aisha struggles and increases the magical power inside her, breaking free and falling onto asphalt.
Once again, a Campione's absurd resilience is shown in surviving what would be equivalent to jumping off a speeding vehicle.
"Mr. Alec, do you take pleasure in abusing me!?"
"I have no intention of abusing you... I am merely taking appropriate action towards the goal of forcibly eliminating you."
"My goodness! You insensitive blockhead! Enemy of young women!"
Nearby were thousands of people taking refuge from the earthquake.
They began to clamor and eye Alexandre Gascoigne with hostility for some reason!
(He is that beautiful woman's enemy.)
(Enemy of young women. Enemy of young women. Enemy of young women. Enemy of young women...)
(Unforgivable! No matter what, that man must pay for abusing that lady!)
The crowd riots and Alec reactivates divine speed to evade them.
Crazy night vision allows the crowd to swiftly spot him on a rooftop. The people also begin to arm themselves with broken branches, swinging them as though they were trained warriors, even picking up pebbles from the side of the road to launch at Alec.
He soon realizes that the charm authority has the added effect of enhancing the abilities of those under its control, including vision and combat prowess.
A terrifying authority, perhaps its intended usage was to create instant armies of this sort.
JPS releases poisonous smoke from the demon bird's beak, but the Boar uses supersonic shockwaves to blow the smoke away. JPS then looks for a large man-made structure as a sacrifice--Tokyo Gate Bridge, instantly engulfing it in fire. Thus, JPS transforms into the Archmage, standing on the surface of the ocean.
The Archmage deflects the Boar's shockwaves with a wave of his left hand while the Boar dodges the Archmage's spear. The two began to fight in close quarters.
Godou watches from a pier. He could not go search for Aisha because he had to transmit orders and magical power to the Boar.
Part 6
Erica vs Lu Yinghua.
Lu Yinghua is using a nine-segmented whip which he uses to dispel Erica's physical enhancing enchantments. Erica unleashes Cuore de Leone's original broadsword form, which also attacks autonomously like a lion hunting prey.
Lu Yinghua escapes the unexpected attack by resorting to the unconventional movements of the Dog Fist style, which shares certain similarities to the Drunken Fist.
Liliana is at an overwhelming disadvantage against Sir Iceman.
She is using Il Maestro's glaive form to resist Iceman's battle mace.
Paolo is known for using a shield and emphasizing defense, but Sir Iceman was the opposite, wielding offensive power capable of penetrating his defense with blunt destruction.
Yuri contacts Liliana. Using the shared ancestry of mikos and witches, Liliana is able to resonate with Yuri's spirit of peace and invoke her Spirit Pacification ability, capable of silencing even divine beast-level magical power.
Seeing Liliana recite Japanese spell words, Iceman shows surprise for the first time. The white defensive light blocks the super heavyweight attack executed at lightning speed, neutralizing its impact.
Using the spell words of Smiting, Liliana summons thirteen vines that burst forth from the asphalt to entangle Iceman's body and limbs in multiple layers.
Liliana asks about Godou's situation, but Yuri has gone silent, presumably exhausted from sending spiritual energy to the living world. Liliana takes flight...
Watching the blue light fly away, Sir Iceman concedes his defeat. His restraints also seal away magic, which means that he has to muster a burst of magic to clear away the thirteen vines binding him. He decides this was not a bad opportunity to take a break.
The opening stage of the civil war was over and this was akin to the midgame phase. It was not yet time to go all-out.
Part 7
Aisha escapes from the rabid crowd, once again regretting her ability for causing all kinds of trouble.
Melusine finds her but vanishes as soon as they make eye contact.
Alec arrives and so does Liliana, because she had spotted Melusine.
Liliana flies off with Aisha, followed by Alec in lightning form.
Aisha resolves to work hard and not leave everything to Kusanagi-san.
Godou doubts his eyes when the Archmage suddenly vanishes.
Liliana lands next to him, bringing Aisha.
Lightning descends and Alec takes form. The familiar sound of boots approach.
Aisha invokes Grand Luck, causing JPS, Alec and Godou to exchange looks.
A black cavity opens up underfoot, causing the four Campioni and Liliana to fall into Fairy's Corridor. The instant Godou was swallowed by the hole, the Boar disappears.
Their journey through the dark tunnel ends in merely ten-odd seconds. They end up on a snowy mountain not far away.
At the peak was the Divine Sword of Salvation with Hanuman, Perseus and the Great Sage standing next to it. And for some reason, the blade was covered by a murky stain, feeling rather ominous.
Chapter 5 - A Gamble on Luck and Misfortune
Part 1
When the sky suddenly turned dark red, Erica and Lu Yinghua stopped fighting and rushed to the scene where the Archmage and the Boar had vanished, only to find a terrifying black hole. They jumped in without hesitation and arrived at a snow-covered mountain.
Lu Yinghua leaves and Erica runs up the mountain to check on Godou and Liliana.
The mysterious corridor had transported four Campioni to encounter Hanuman, Perseus, the Great Sage and the Divine Sword of Salvation.
Perseus bursts out laughing.
The three steel gods take on the godslayers.
The Great Sage takes on Alec while Hanuman chases after JPS' demon bird form.
Perseus aims his bow at Godou, who suddenly hears Athena's voice from the Netherworld, telling him to gamble on the witch's luck.
Godou apologizes to Perseus because he's too busy and summons Lancelot to fight Perseus while he goes after Aisha.
Part 2
Ever since the civil war broke out, Lancelot had been patrolling the sky over Tokyo and the ocean, merging with the wind when there were no clouds.
When the godslayers were sucked into the strange hole, she merged with the wind and followed her lord's presence west of Tokyo to this mountain.
She had stayed in spiritual form all this time for the sake of conserving energy.
Her enemy was the serpent-slaying hero Perseus.
Now that Lancelot was Kusanagi Godou's guardian knight, she had become one of his authorities and was under certain restrictions as a result.
Fighting in her fully materialized form as a war god was limited to ten minutes, but that posed no issue for the charging white knight, Lancelot du Lac, who believed enemies should be crushed in an instant with a single strike.
Lancelot descended like a meteor, but Perseus summoned a sword to cross with his bow, stopping Lancelot's spear just centimeters from his throat.
The explosion from the impact engulfed the peak, reaching a radius of two or three hundred meters.
Godou comments that he's gained another companion that's like the Boar. Liliana says that more precisely, it's birds of a feather, gathering together.
They meet up with Erica and hold a discussion while Aisha is sleeping, leaning against a tree trunk.
With Yuri out of commission for now, they need to figure out the origin of Beyond the Timeless Horizon. Liliana has no idea, so Erica says "leave it to me" and enters the forest, bidding Godou to follow.
She hugs him and their lips naturally come together. Erica starts instructing Godou on trickster gods, elusive, capable of traversing between the realms of mankind, the gods, and the underworld, also regarded as guardian deities of merchants and travelers...
Trickster gods are not numerous, usually one or two in each pantheon across the world. For example, there's Loki from Norse mythology or Hermes from the Greeks.
Liliana hesitates, embarrassed to engage in kissing with Erica watching (somehow, she feels bolder when three or four of them are participating) but Godou kisses her, sealing her lips.
Liliana joins in, pointing out that the gods mentioned by Erica all lack the crucial "time" element.
Part 3
Aisha wakes up to overhear a suspicious conversation between Godou and his knights. They then threaten to put Aisha to rest in peace forever. As Godou swings his divine sword, the betrayed Aisha screams and summons a pitch-black hole in the sky, Fairy's Corridor, of course.
This one was unprecedentedly large and around the edge were many vines and brambles with flowers of all colors blooming. The suction from this hole was also stronger than ever, fueled by Aisha's despair and rage to create the terrifying object known as the sky corridor.
Lancelot reached her time limit and returned to Godou's side as his guardian spirit. Before Perseus could react in surprise to his opponent's escape, he was suddenly caught by the mysterious sky corridor's suction.
A bunch of tiny fairies were giggling around the glowing light enveloping Perseus. Winged boys and girls, the size of birds, with western facial features. Around twelve or thirteen of them. With friendly smiles, they sent Perseus towards the hole in the sky.
Meanwhile, Alec is running and hiding from the Great Sage, planning to set up his usual Labyrinth+Furies kill trap. When the sky corridor draws him and Great Sage in, he turns into lightning to break free, then resorts to using the Labyrinth to escape the mysterious attractive force, sighing mentally that this must be Aisha's doing.
In the sky, Hanuman and JPS are pulled towards the hole too.
Godou invokes the Sword and starts explaining. The beautiful Princess Niamh fell in love with a mortal and brought him home with her to Tír na nÓg to live happily ever after. However, Oisín (or Ossian) grew homesick after three years and wanted to visit his homeland. When he got off Niamh's white horse and touched the ground, he instantly turned into an old man because three hundred years had already passed in the mortal realm. Aisha's time traveling ability was precisely the power that Niamh had used to take her lover to Tír na nÓg.
Using the Sword as a means of defense, Godou slices apart the terrifying force attempting to draw him towards the hole.
Aisha then realizes it was an act on Godou's part.
To clean up, Godou borrows the Dawn Goddess' ability and summons the storm.
Part 4
The three steel gods and JPS invoke spell words to resist.
The spinning dark star manifests directly above the hole in the sky, dashing the hopes of the struggling JPS, Perseus, the Great Sage and Hanuman to escape.
Once they are sucked into the hole, Godou stops the Storm Bringer and has Ama no Murakumo return to his arm.
Utterly exhausted, Aisha falls asleep on the snow.
Suddenly, Godou senses danger and reaches out with his arms, using the Bull incarnation. He catches a charging demon wolf's snout and upper jaw with his left hand and the lower jaw with his right. The sharp teeth sink into his palms, hurting him.
Ignoring the pain, Godou throws the giant wolf but it lands on two feet and transforms back into Voban.
"Time to uphold the promise."
Luo Hao arrives and picks up the sleeping Aisha, then plants a kiss on her lips, claiming to have sealed away all her powers.
Blue glowing particles leaked out rapidly from Aisha's entire body. Magical power, the root of all authorities?
Luo Hao reveals her temporary alliance with Voban until all other enemies were eliminated.
2 vs 1.
Godou could not think of any option except "run away like hell" but could he really flee from these two?
Totally impossible. Just as he ruled out this option, Doni steps out and offers Godou an alliance, declaring that Kusanagi Godou and Salvatore Doni will win the civil war before deciding the throne of the ultimate victor.
Thus, on the night of the second day of the Devil King Civil War, four Campioni were gathered on a mountain in Okutama--
Afterword says that the civil war would wrap up in Volume 20, which won't be a long wait, but as for Volume 21 (the end of the series), cough cough.
Originally, this final arc was meant to be two volumes long, but due to too many characters and plot developments, he reached the conclusion that a two-parter was not enough.
Volume 20 starts off with the young generation combo of Godou+Doni facing off against the old generation combo of Luo Hao and Voban. The swirling black shadow of Lakshmana on the surface of the Divine Sword of Salvation manifests, secretly taking shady action underneath the stage. During the intense battle, Godou finally ends up in the Netherworld. It is also there that he discovers the shocking secret of how the great ritual of the covenant, the source of Rama's overwhelming power, can be neutralized. And sure enough, the Campione who holds the key is "that one"...!? The rapid developments of the Civil War of the Devil Kings, sweeping the entire underground and spiritual realms into its wake, are about to reach a conclusion!
