Finished my first playthrough a few days ago. Passing time with a 2nd run because japanese psn cards are for a poor student rather expensive if you just want Sen II

€75 for a 10,000 Yen card is by itself quite fair (seeing that the current exchange rate is around €70 for 10,000 Yen), but without an income these expenses do still hurt after a while. At least, I'd have 3,200 remaining after the purchase...

Anyway, a few impressions from my VN tainted eyes *lol*:

At this point I'm counting my blessings that a fan translation for Zero is being worked on, because it only way western fans my this and Ao sometime this decade, if ever.

I didn't know there was a fan translation for Zero going. At least, hopefully, we'll be able to go through the Crossbell arc at some point. I need my Rixia!

But yeah, we'll at least be caught up and going through Sen/Sen 2 and so forth. I'm excited about that.

I have interest in this Steam game, but...are they not going to put the whole series on Steam? I'm not sure I want to buy the game on Steam if they aren't going to end up putting the whole series on Steam for North America.

So Sen may be getting localized, eh? That's great news!

Incidentally, I just recently finished Sen 1 over the holiday weekend (yeah, I'm really slow when it comes to non-action RPGs....). And I guess "Trails of Cold Steel" beats calling it Luminescence or Radiance or something of that nature, heh.

Actually, the name of the regular battle track is "Glint of Cold Steel" in the OST (in English at that), so maybe Xseed got the idea for the title from that....?

That being said.... it's STILL going to be a good while before we even get wind of as much as a release date, isn't it? Sen doesn't exactly lose to the previous titles in terms of amounts of text....

Yes, it's the first. It's also the ONLY localized Kiseki/Trails title we have so far. The sequel is on the way, but it's not even guaranteed we'll see it by the end of this year, lol.

Also, I wasn't aware that a fan translation for Zero was underway. That's great news, since the chances of that and Ao seeing a western release is becoming more and more uncertain....

I'm on the 'I want the release order to be translated, because Sen loses a lot of its impact if you haven't played 3rd and Zero/Ao beforehands' side. But I understand that Sen is the title with the most probabilities of being translated, as they have to do it on PS3 and Vita as soon as possible (and it will make people complaining even more about not having the rest of the series)
I'm worried about how this will go, but whatever

Only hint for SC's release date we have right now is possibly "First half of 2015" and they are beginning QA. So it's not too far off.

As for Sen's localization. As they said, they have learnt a lot from FC & SC, so they'll be changing their approach for sure and expecting a much quicker turn around. If it gets announced shortly after next year, hopefully it's a 2016 title.

I'm sure they want to do Zero/Ao but with the licensing, platform viability and cost issues it's next to impossible. No point in doing Zero if you can't do Ao either. I read Sen's a little bit of an easier jump point but you have to had played FC & SC to understand the world.

I'd go as far as saying that you might as well play everything before Sen in order to understand the current world situation.

That said, with how the availability of localizing the Crossbell game looks slim I think you at least need the knowledge from all the 3 games of Sora or Trails in the Sky, not just FC and SC. The 3rd Chapter actually provides basic setup for the future games including Sen, so yeah.

Done with run 1 of Sen II. A few things I found rather annoying, but overall I loved it. I played on Easy, but it was fun to build Laura around her second S-Craft and being able to nearly one-shot most bosses (Bye bye Dubarry

!)

Spoiler for Sen II overall:

- It was a shame that Elise, Alfin and Towa were only playable for one dungeon or in Towa's case for one battle. And Elise's kidnapping didn't feel that important to the overall plot, well other than a (deeper) personal motivation for Rean. Given that he was more preoccupied with reuniting with the rest of his classmates and finding his way of life.
- I loved the reunion scene with Arisa; just hook them up Falcom! Fie's "jumping embrace" seemed rather bold considering their rather normal-ish relation in Sen 1, but not in a way I'd really complain

- Sharon was awesome and it's always funny to hear Arisa's "Sha...Sha... SHARON?!?!" reaction. It will be unfortunate, but I'm sure she'll be an enemy in another title given her wording that she's too deep "darkness-tarnished" compared to Joshua and Renne who could be saved.
- Ouroboros as haxx as ever, yet they don't seem as vile for the "bad guys", ignoring creeps like Wiseman, or else they could have crushed the Class VII in sleep.
- The Intermission chapter was epic. Rean being able to make "Black Rabbit" and Dubarry fluster/blush was quite funny and the short sequences of battle in "Oni" mode were bad@ss. A bit unfortunate that this mode wasn't brought up thereafter during cutscenes or so.
- Ther short interaction with Valimar was a nice touch
- I doubt I'll ever see a time where the protagonists can legitimately force the more OP antagonists back with monsters like McBurn who even Victor should have trouble with (according to McBurn) and (even) Dubarry giving them more than a run for their money. Maybe when Rean is at a higher Hachiyou Ittou rank and can use "Oni" mode longer/wishfulthinking Or the ultimate party against Ouroboros' (Grand Master) will include powerhouses like Cassius, Victor, Ariost and some Arts specialists from the Church(?).

The aforementioned meh aspect:
Rufus and Osborne ruined - for me at least - definitely the mood after Crow's death and the overall victory. The latter being alive is something I already knew and the spoiler itself wouldn't be able to ruin the fun, but it's more with how the whole scene played out. Rean's connection to him would at least explain how Osborne was likely to survive the assassination. Overall I wasn't like "WOW what a nice twist!", but more "Oh c'mon, really?" I so want Rean to temporary team up with Ouroboros and stomp him in the ground for good

Alright, I FINALLY beat Sen 2!

It took me damn near 2 months (and close to 150 hours of total playtime.... told you I'm slow with these things, lol

), but I finally got past this monster! So, here's a few of my thoughts (spoilers ahead, naturally):

Overall, despite a few minor gripes, I enjoyed Sen 2 immensely!

I'm definitely looking forward to Sen 3, though it'll probably be a while before that comes along (since Falcom seems pretty busy with making action titles at the moment).

Sen is just fairly lenient with how you use your S-Craft, as they are far more damaging than previous titles (and you even got many broken quartz to boost their damage even more). Overall, it just have the impression that the game is made easier to audience for better or worse.

And I think Falcom just need a time to decide where they want to bring the series, hence a blank year without any new installment. I personally don't think they will do Sen 3, but it's likely it will still take stage in the Empire.

The funny thing is, I didn't really rely on S-Crafts that much. I mainly just used regular crafts, buffs, AOE arts and Rean's SSJ mode once that was unlocked, heh.

But yeah, I can kinda tell that Falcom had fresh audiences in mind as far as difficulty goes. I mean heck, roughly half my party had Seraphim Ring quartz equipped by the time I made it to the true final dungeon. Couple that with the generous amount of "Zero Arts" turns you get and yeah, you can pretty much kiss any semblance of balance bye bye, lol.

Well, even if it isn't titled Sen 3, the next title should definitely still be set in the Empire. I mean, putting aside all the loose ends left untied (some of them not even being revealed until NG+, which I admit I already spoiled myself on), we still haven't really focused on the western half of the empire yet. That, and most likely we'll be revisiting Crossbell once more since that's so deeply connected with the empire arc, as well. Geez, if it took me nearly 150 hours to beat Sen 2, then it's gonna take at least twice as long for me to beat the next installment!

Well, I think we all saw this coming, but the next Sen sequel is indeed confirmed. Seems that it may be a while before the next entry comes out, though. And hey, a potential Gagharv trilogy remake!? Sign me up, baby!

Also, I think that article sort of indirectly confirmed that the next Ys won't be finished anytime soon either, since the Falcom president only said to look forward to Sora FC Evolution and Tokyo Xanadu for the moment (well, maybe we'll get more news about it when TGS rolls around, I guess). BTW, I find it amusing that the article uses the "Cold Steel" title despite it technically not being confirmed as the official English title for Sen just yet.

Even more obvious: During the school festival if you get Arisa and let Rean pick the romance fortune telling slip. Not at all subtle, right? - Regardless, I thought the Kizuna events were better used than in Zero and Ao, maybe due to the similar-ish feel of Persona's Social Links. Otherwise: - The teachers are beasts, be it physical combat or magic. Quite refreshing compared to other Trail titles, where only a few NPCs were OP, like mostly Ariot in Zero and Ao. Blight couple not included as they were playable in Zero's last dungeon . - I wished there was a (voiced) scene for when Angelica gave Rean her motorbike. She wasn't as involved as Towa, but at least in all the bike riding lesson sidequests. - Even though I liked the amount of voice acting, it was a bit annoying when it had switched between voiced and unvoiced Rean. __________________ Visual Novel Addict

So, here's a few of my thoughts (spoilers ahead, naturally): Spoiler for Sen 2: -I think my favorite scenes in the entire game are Rean's reunions with his class VII classmates. Really goes to show how strong a bond they formed during the first game's events (and the fact that they were all separated in the midst of a freaking civil war certainly helps, too). And hey, Sara is actually a permanent party member this time around, which is a plus! -On the subject of party members.... I found it real neat that all of the guest members return for the "true" final dungeon. I would have been disappointed if I only had Angelica in my party for a single main story dungeon again, after all (or in Towa's case, a single boss battle ). I was especially glad to have Claire back.... she's pretty much my favorite of the new members (she has one of my favorite S-Crafts, too! ). -I really liked that part midway through the game where Rean just has some casual chats with his enemies. Heck, Bleublanc (or whatever the phantom thief dude's name is) even mentions Estelle and co. from the Sora trilogy! It was also nice to see Rean just hang out with Crow one last time like the good ol' days before things started getting out of hand. Of course, that just makes the "first" ending all the more sad..... -As far as battles go, while I did find it a bit more challenging than the first Sen, IMO it still doesn't hold a candle to Ao's difficulty. I mean, I even found the final boss from the "main" story surprisingly wimpy! The only bosses who gave me a really hard time were McBurn and the Crow/Vita team (and even then they still don't compare to monsters like Arianrhod and Arios from Ao, IMO). The "true" final boss from the epilogue was tougher at least..... too bad it was just a palette swap of the penultimate boss from the first Sen, though. Man, I kinda wish McBurn in his SSJ mode was the true final boss fight instead..... that would have been fun! ....Though mind you, this only counts for my experience of playing it on Normal. Nightmare could be a different beast altogether. -On the subject of plot twists, I wasn't the least bit surprised that Osbourne survived. Even his "death" scene in the prequel was suspicious (he seemed well aware that it was Crow who shot him). I wasn't even all that shocked by the Darth Vader moment between him and Rean, either. On the other hand, Rufus being in league with him actually caught me off-guard. And I gotta admit that the guy can't be underestimated since he was able to hijack Ouroboros' plan right from under their noses. He definitely has the makings of a formidable antagonist, especially now that he currently also has Crossbell under his control (though not for too much longer, as Ao already revealed).... -Speaking of Crossbell, the only complaints I have about that chapter are that: 1) It's too short. 2) You can't explore the city in its full HD glory, and 3) Too few returning characters. I mean, aside from Lloyd and Rixia (who's as smexy as ever, I must admit ) we only had.... what? That journalist lady? Where's the rest of my SSS homies at? Just having their names dropped isn't enough for me.... Anyway, I found it a nice touch that a couple of tunes from Zero was even used during the chapter. Too bad it didn't use any of the boss themes, though (and on that note, having Rean as a boss was a pretty interesting twist..... though I curiously found him kinda nerfed compared to when I'm actually playing as him, heh). Actually, considering Rean's current allegiance at this point, I sorta wonder if he'll be an antagonist in Sen 3, as well? I can see something like that happening. -Concerning the social link events, I like how they're a bit more involved this time compared to the first game's. So far I only maxed out Alisa and Elliot's, but I'll get to the others when I have the time. Heh, nice to see that Rean x Alisa is pretty much confirmed, too. Still, I wish it wasn't just Rean who got link event scenes..... I was really hoping to see some more development for my true favorite pairing, Laura x Fie..... oh well. Overall, despite a few minor gripes, I enjoyed Sen 2 immensely! I'm definitely looking forward to Sen 3, though it'll probably be a while before that comes along (since Falcom seems pretty busy with making action titles at the moment).
