I think Tobey Maguire was the one that was trying for a live action Hollywood Robotech film based on the Macross section of the story.

Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles was an animated film that came out in 2006 set as a sequel to the three series they used for Robotech. (its sequal as been delayed) There seem to have been a lot of plans for sequels over the years to follow the story of the SDF-3 and the search for it from different sides. Basically sequels to the Macross section and the Mospeada section, from an American point of view...since they would completely ignore Macross 7 and beyond, favoring the Southern Cross to Mospeada timeline.

There are plans for a Robotech OVA based an some Mospeada OVA (Love Live Alive). Because Robotech was not just Macross, after all. Though I doubt they would do for the Southern Cross section of the story.

(I myself have only seen the Macross section and an episode of the Southern Cross section of Robotech, as well as part of The Shadow Chronicles. I was hoping Macross 7 wasn't as silly as it is to have it take over the Southern Cross and after parts to make Robotech more Macross and less anything else. Mainly because Macros Frontier looks good and would fit will even if done like Robotech)

Could you imagine Maguire trying to pass himself off now as a 18 year old Rick Hunter? ^^

Now? no. Back when they first talked about it? Maybe. He doesn't seem the type for Fokker. Though I've no clue what anyone would do for Max these days.

He seems to be in the Producer's chair a lot more often these days.

But, give him some makup, and and oversized captain's hat? Captain Gloval?

To put Macross Frontier into the Robotech story would butcher it. Just no. Frontier looks too good to be in Robotech. And though I hate to admit it (as I've said I have problems with Frontier's storyline and plot), it has a much better storyline/plot than ALL of the Robotech stories minus the SDF. I've barely watched any of the Robotech stories, but I saw the two direct sequels to SDF, and they were absolutely mortifying.

My final word on your comment, Ithekro, no; Frontier doesn't belong in Robotech. It deserves much better dubbing. I'd send it off to Bandai or Funimation before I'd ever give it to the owners of Robotech. That would butcher it. Robotech doesn't deserve Frontier.

Wow, and I just noticed I've seen every single one of his works...

So sad *sniff*

Of course, Macross and Legend of the Galactic Heroes (despite its use of gratuitous German) stood out from his list of works.

RIP.

He was a legend among legends. Tomino, Miyazaki, and Anno are household names, but Ishiguro can stand toe-to-toe with them by any measurable standard.

He will be missed.

Not only for Macross or DYRL, he also directed LOGH, Yamato, Astro Boy and Orguss. What a legend.

RIP Ishiguro. You'll forever be my galactic hero.

Partly in tribute to Ishiguro, and now that I have completed my full SDFM set, I'm watching the saga tonight.

I understand this thread hasn't been active, but I just started marathoning through the first series and so far I'm really enjoying the series. It's big refresh from other mecha shows.

As of right now I'm on episode 20.

And also, I can't get enough of the OP! "MACROSS! MA-CO-ROSS!" Ah, old school 80's shows....how I miss them!

I'm at episode 24 now, but as for a favorite, thats a tough one. I'd think episode 21 where Hikaru and Misa get trapped together was my favorite so far. Lot of character development for those two that I like.

As for favorite character at first it was Minmay in the beginning but I'm kinda starting to lean towards Misa now. Of course, Rori, Konda and Warera and the other defectors reactions to earth culture and 'women' were pretty funny. I can't wait for Milia to finally showing her dere side. :P

I like your choices.

Episode 21 is one of my favorites, as well. As is Episode 24.
