British Company MVM Leaks FUNimation License

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
British anime distributor MVM has sent out a list of FUNimation titles for which MVM has sublicenses to distribute in the UK. Included in the list were several titles that MVM does not have sublicenses for, including one license that FUNimation has yet to officially announce in North America: Baki the Grappler.

Additionally, Anime on DVD has discovered that FUNimation has registered the domain bakithegrappler.com.

Excerpt from MVM e-mail:

These are the recent Funimation titles and the UK rights position:

Burst Angel - No UK rights
Gunslinger Girl - UK rights
Baki the Grappler - No UK rights
Tenchi Muyo Ryo Ou Ki - UK rights
Kodocha (Kodomo no Omocha) - UK rights
Full Metal - UK rights
Spiral - UK rights
Well that's interesting, FUNimation has Baki and didn't announce it at AX?

Old news

We tagged "Baki the Grappler" as rumoured last week. But it is unusual that it wasn't announced.

Show off

What makes it more unusual is that FUNi is typically quite happy to announce a series as they obtain the liscense to it, wonder what kept them quiet on this one.

I wonder why "Baki the Grappler" is considered a better title for R1 than "Grappler Baki".

Because it's SOOO much better.

OK, so not really, it's a totally useless change. (As usual)

I understand that there was a U.S. release of the film by U.S. Manga Corps (as per AnimeNfo and ANN)

I'm happy because it was licensed by FUNimation, meaning it will receive a good English dub, good exposure, and get a great uncut subtitled release on DVD. What's there to be angry about?

I'm not fond of the dubs, so I'll just wait for the DVD to come out and I can get the always superior subs, (with relation to the differences between dubs and subs that is), :P

Same with me. I do, however, like series to be licensed by distributors with good dubs because in the event the show is something I want to show to friends/family/other people who aren't into reading subtitles, it's always better to have a good English dub to show them rather than a bad one.

i've read that US release of Grappler Baki have a video quality that sucks a bit...
i've read that Taiwan ORIGINAL edition in 12 DVDs of each series (total 24), 2 episodes for DVD, are better of US release... That is real?
