Hikari would probably say, if Kanno's strike hadn't already done 99.9% of the job, her shot probably wouldn't have killed the hive.

The situation is S1 was complicated, so we can't say if Yoshika killed the hive by breaking the core in Akagi.
I still personally count Yoshika's as a kill, but I'll grant you the complexity of the situation makes a real mess of figuring out exactly how it worked.

Oh sure. I mean, when it comes down to it Yoshika is nigh-invincible. She can make a battleship-sized shield that's still strong enough to shrug off even the heaviest beams anyone throws at her, and her magic power level would be over 9000, if anyone were to use a scouter on her. Not that I don't like her (I really do like her, actually), but it takes more guts for the girl whose shields break immediately under fire to fly into a Neuroi hive than it does for the girl who can cover herself, her friends, and practically the people in the the next country all at once. And yeah, getting it with a one-shot pistol that's ineffective beyond 25ft is sort of an "insult to injury" for the Neuroi.

Also true. She didn't do it alone. But then, neither did Yoshika. The power of friendship is too important in this franchise to have even the protagonist handle everything by themselves.

Basically, Edytha, Sasha, & Gundula are already 20, 17, & 19 years old during the Operation FreFre..

BTW, when the Operation Trajanus started..?

Doesn't seem to have stopped them by the time of the movie.

It was nice balance. In the end I'm fine with Hikari getting the last shot in there. She didn't do all the work, but did a lot. Kind of nice that it did need that one last little poke and she had the means to handle that . That little gun was the MVP of this series .

Was a nice last episode. I'll give it to Hikari and Kanno for doing a nice job at the end. It was a team effort all around, but definitely a wild ride for those two to get close enough.

And it ends like it really should. There is good Takami can do out there and other squads that could probably use her help. Hikari has found the place she belongs. One hive is down, but there is still a large war to fight. The Brave Witches aren't a temporary squad for emergency, but one for the long haul. Hikari fits in nicely with them.

Nice and enjoyable journey.

No, the whole 502nd was seen in the movie. Sasha was by the landing pad, looking over the damage the lightning did the Nipa's striker unit. Nipa was waving goodbye to Sanya and Eila. Everyone else had a non-speaking still-shot as the camera panned over the whole group, but they were all there. Except for Hikari, but her character hadn't been created yet.

I mean their eligibility to fly in the front line. Since Sasha & Gundula are still able to fly for several years..

Did anyone got the Death Star 2 & Starkiller Base vibe when they entering Grigori..?

Funny you mention that, I was just playing through the "Strike at the Core" mission in Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader on the old GameCube. It definitely has that sense, doesn't it?

Not a bad ending, almost wished Hikari and takami had been able to fight side by side in against the neuroi hive.

At least we know that takami is just as stubborn and reckless as her sister.

GET KOLIBRI'D, SON!

That was the first thing that also came to mind when I saw that. It's probably the most hilarious comparison out there these days.

Yoshka, and Hikari are the only ones who can claim to have killed a hive core, and in such sweet fashion.

I don't think Hikari was added in the bd version I just watched it, but maybe I missed it.

now the question is will we get a second season or a movie.

One good thing about this victory is that is sets a precedent for destroying hives that is repeatable. Unlike the various victories of the 501st, which relied on Neuroi technology that is unreliable and undoubtedly really hard to gain access to, the 502nd's victory used tools and strategies that can be duplicated by other assault forces when the time comes. For the first time ever, there can actually be a clear strategy for how to truly defeat the Neuroi.

That's the problem with sticking this season in between SW season 1 and season 2; we know that the 501st is going to be involved in the Neuroi Senkan Yamato plan even if Operation Freyja turned out to almost work from the start.

That plan still had some notable weaknesses, primarily among them is that while they did have spare shells for the cannons (but almost not enough time to use them), they didn't specifically plan for needing a spare Karibuchi sister. Also, if Eila and Sanya could just show up with the train and leave without being under threat, why didn't they have a second squadron in reserve if the 502nd needed help?

It is nice that they have a workable tactic going forward. They could definitely improve upon it and work on fallback plans, but it can work. Blast away the cloud, lock in on the core (making sure there isn't a dummy core or hidden core), and then destroy the core. That is workable. It does rely on the very valuable resource of witches that can see cores, but they can repeat it.

Honestly even 'retired' witches can be brought back for this kind of thing. Use 2-3 regular witches to act as their personal guards and the retired one can do the job of core spotting. They just need enough witches for guard duty in terms of protecting the artillery.

Yeah, the artillery's a serious weak point. Critical part and stationary target. I wonder if land witches can still project good shields? That might be a good use for them.

OK. Off topic but I think I'm the only odd one here. You know what I love most about Takami even though she does not have enough screen time? Her lips. First of all, you don't see that details to lip that often in anime. Even in this anime, it seems like Takami is the only one where her lips are present. It's awesome. OK. You can kill me now for being off topic.
Spoiler for Proof:

On another note, it's odd that her character descriptions describer her as someone with immature features. Perhaps I'm blind but she looks rather mature.

Anyways, this franchise is franchise that I would not mind at all for another season. So... I'm hoping to see another season hahaha. Especially if I get to see more Takami

It's not quite as unique in anime in general anymore (Boku wa Tomodachi Sukunai was the first anime I can immediately recall, that I watched, that did such a thing consistently with their female characters, and have been seeing it done more and more often as of late), but it's definitely unique in the Witches anime.
