It's rather unlikely that Souma can outsell the 8th seat. In terms of bulk and brand Souma faces an insurmountable uphill battle. I figure it'll end up being his moral victory somehow. Like him getting a better rating from the culinary experts or as happens often in school festival arcs him sucking in the beginning due to his inherent disadvantages but winning the final day of the festival.

My sentiments exactly. This time, I really feel Souma's biting off more than he can chew, or wearing a hat too big for his head, whichever way you'd want to put it.

The whole expulsion thing definitely threw a curve (ball) in his entire planning. He has to be mindful of his profit margin, WITH the intention to outsell Kuga, as well.

I can't see him pulling that off, I just can't.

The chapters out but dear god this is becoming sad. Soma is reckless and his plan will either be brilliant or blow up in his face. I dont know whether to admire him for his courage or criticize him for his recklessness. This will be something else to be sure though.

As for the Soma Erina thing i've gotta say its an odd dynamic. Erina seems generally curious at Soma's actions but you have moments when she looks like old Erina but moments where she seems to be softening up. its becoming more interesting. Sadly even with interest growing its still heavily one-sided and thats gonna kill this story

If Soma really wants to win he should team up with Subaru Mimasaka or mimic him and just make a "better" (better here means more delicious as well as faster to produce) version of Kuga's chinese dish. Of course Soma won't do it this way (the easy way ) and will create a complete new dish that will shock everyone.

The great question and problem in my opinion is, is Soma up against the whole Chinese Cuisine RS or just against Kuga and the number of dishes Kuga personally cooks? Against the whole Chinese Cuisine RS he clearly doesn't stand a chance without equal numbers, but I think this is more a personal battle.

Their interactions are one of the golden points in the manga, & one just cannot get enough of them.

I can understand everyone's doubt about Soma being able to pull this off, but since this is the first hurdle to cross after coming back from the Stagiare period, what do you guys think would be an optimal result? Because quite frankly, I don't want this to end up as another failure for him, and getting recognition is good and all, but I want a big victory.

Of course he wouldn't even want to bring in Subaru. He despises the way Subaru's cooking is. No way he would lower himself to that level, even for the sake of winning.

Its a showcase of the Chinese Research Cuisine society, so his minions will be there as well. The chapter already highlighted the freedom of space one gets to set up his/her booth, in the middle district.

With 2 weeks left, I can't see Souma winning this entire thing, at all.

Let's see what he can come up with first, before giving a more 'objective' analysis.

Let's face it - with the amount of time left, & who he's up against, its his most daunting & intimidating task in Tootsuki he has experienced, by far.

just read the chapter. I have no clue how Souma can pull this off. This manga has been fairly consistent, so they have to do a massive asspull for Souma to beat Kuga.

Also the chapter was pretty funny with some great interactions and banter- Nao/Hisako/Ikumi and Souma & Erina. Also Nikumi's reaction to Erina was pretty funny and unexpected. That last panel was too good.

And yh, like others have said, the gradual progression of their interactions are good. The author's pretty good at consistency. I mean its realistic, like you wouldn't suddenly go dere dere towards someone, if you disliked them at the start, just cuz of some bs reason, like they were "nice" or "helped you that one time".

Hmm, well, teaming up with Houjou is a given she has the experience, and, if my knowledge of Shonen tropage doesn't fail me, she may end up being added to the Soma harem^^;;, it's too bad none of Kojiro's friends was an expert in Chinese cuisine...

I don't see her teaming up with him, but giving him advice, instead. Besides, he has already submitted his application with his name alone (on the deadline day), so any other student who wants to join him would probably be rejected. And I doubt they'd want to be in the same boat as him, if the expulsion ruling applies to them, as well.

Its mad & reckless, no matter how you look at it, from a student's perspective.

He has a major life-line, actually, in the form of his Pops.

IMO the interactions to me are just something obnoxious because they're trying to force shipping in a show that has continuously fared very well without it. I admit that some of it is funny.

If i'm in a camp its the Who does the MC seem to prefer in this show and many others. In this case Soma doesnt give a crap. For all the "moments" in the show Soma has the same idc attitude and cooking is king. So until Soma shows romantic interest in any its all just fanboy foolishness and its rather annoying.

It's only shipping if u choose to see it that way. It's really more of a friendly interaction between rivals/frenemies ala Goku/Vegeta. More interactions will always be good for the story, cuz the 2 characters are the antithesis of each other and will imo prolly fight it out for the no.1 seat in the future.

Besides, if someone were to broach the topic about romance to him, he'd probably act like a typical teenage boy.

The readers are patient. We're still in the first year, with many arcs to come, so I don't even see a problem with this.

The problem is, this manga is not so typical. I have the feeling the author secretly has the wish of trolling the shounen tropes. Just like the last time at the three-way final, after all the flashbacks and talk about how superior the born geniuses to the hard-working students, one should expect Souma to overcome the odds and win but no, the victor is Hayama and all the foreshadowing become a huge trolling. I won't be surprise if what's happening with Erina now is something similar to that.

LOL mate, u serious? that battle absolutely followed Shounen tropes- the MC never wins the first big tournament. Dragon Ball, Naruto, Boku hero plus more all follow that trope

Man, it seems what Eishi said about the heaven and earth things hasnt reach a lot of readers
I dont even think Souma could win against Kuga in the festival not to talk about Shokugeki. Souma will busy struggle with keeping his sale in decent pace or else EXPELL!

And if Souma luckily has a thick plot shield, he may have a chance to do Shokugeki with Kuga but only to lose, but losing is what Souma calls collecting experience.

I dont know, I feel like Souma is quite near to Erina's level but not there yet, not there to take over the 10th seat yet.
