If you look at it chapter by chapter then of course it's a never-ending confusion. Look it as a whole arc instead, that should help.

I don't see what's so confusing about it. Keima was giving up and intended to go for another reset because Kaori made him feel like a terrible person who trusts no one but him/herself and manipulates others to get what he/she wants.

Tenri reached out to him, showing that even in the short time they have been together, she genuinely cares about him no matter what he thinks. Keima finally understands that now, and is willing to put his faith into someone else for the first time ever instead of playing it out like his galge and thinking it would always work according to his plans.

The confusing part is why would he ask a "confession" from he if she is ready to risk to follow him into unknown .The timid Tenri stood up against Kaori to defend him (taken he didn't see it).

How is that suppose to change his way approaching conquests? Asking for forgiveness won't make you a siant Keima, you still that demon you proclaimed to be.
