This may be a light novel with moe, but even Shougi pros read this. Or maybe Shougi pro cum otakus. Stream mirror with announcement: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm31555561 (if you've been following Gangan GA channel, you will get the references and it's funny how 7 of the 8 listed cast are all personalities for the channel ) Quote:

Aside from it being done by the No-Rin author, the original artist is the same as Myriad Colors Phantom World. That, coupled with the same director as NetoYome suggests that this might be mildly popular during its run only to get forgotten a few years later, I can see it already.
BTW this is the first time I've seen another anime about shogi, the other being King of Shogi (Shion no Ou), the only difference is that this could be like Ro-Kyu-Bu! with shogi and less fanservice.

For myself, with knowledge about future arcs from RE:Zero's WN, I would actually still rank stuff like RE:Zero to be more interesting and thus higher. As for what's nice about Ryu-oh, I don't have time now to make a long post on it, maybe more on that at a later date in the LN thread, if I remember. Not too sure about the later part, need to check. But yes to first part, it is said that this is better received among shougi players than the masses. Which is weird because it does have moe and love comedy elements. Author is also receiving advice and supervision from Kansai Shougi Association/Center on the shougi related stuff. |

I do play Go, in fact play tsumego problems regularly, and have tried Shougi. Shougi is pretty hard. While it doesn't have as many board permutations (thus possibilities) as Go, Shougi is less straightforward and has a much steeper learning curve.
Go is easy to pick up, but hard to get good at and requires lots of patience and stamina since full-board games last for hours. While the goal is simple, Shougi has too many things to consider for the beginner and it is less intuitive if you play other kinds of chess games. All pieces same color, differentiate based on facing, able to use captured enemy's piece, and promotion hell. |

What made me wonder is has anyone seriously enjoyed ShokoMeza from the same studio in charge? I heard almost nothing but bad reception despite good marketing in Nipland and having Romeo in it. I liked the pilot but couldn't continue after that because of busy work so I'm curious to see what do you enjoy about it.
