Well, with Alicia doing some of the most despicable things one can imagine, like betrayal and attempted genocide, all by her one own will and not showing any sign of internal conflict, you can't really fault people for judging her so negatively. Even then, I'm ok with the villain becoming a hero and being absolved for his sins, oh he receives at least some retribution and goes through a proper redemption arc. This is not the case for Alicia, who is forgiven for everything just because.

I'm still not sure if the author wanted to make a heartwarming story about a lonely outcast gamer who found friendship and meaning in another world, but the publisher wanted a soft-porn story. Or the other way around. While I am sure some people appreciate both, this story seems to swing from one to the other and back, rather than fit together in a natural flow. Personally I would have preferred if they had just dropped the random boob dance sequences and animated more story instead, but done is done.

Indeed he did. This series wasn't anything revolutionary or mold breaking, but I found it to be an enjoyable series that kept me coming back. I'll also add that the whole slavery aspect was better handled than I expected.

And the presence of a criminal population negates the virtue of the majority? In most societies you have a very small elite population and a very small number of people who commit most of the major crimes, and the rest are people with a good sense of morality who are trying to do what's right: good people by your own standard. But given who they are they naturally attracted and encountered a number of people in those two bad groups. They also encountered a number of soldiers ready to give their lives to protect others, adventurers who stood for their beliefs, etc. who stand as proof that corruption is hardly universal. There are plenty of crapsack worlds where everyone's a bad guy and you could argue justly that they should all probably have their heads on the blocks, but this is not that kind of story.

That's just speculation on your part though.
All that said if you decide argue with me through PM to "not derail main threat anymore" Why you try lead the war on both front? If you want have discussion, I dare say our personal is enough. If you give priority to trying prove me wrong in front of others there is no point bother with messages. I am fine either way, but you should decide where you want talk. I am not exactly enthusiasthic saying same arguments twice (That's why this post actual answer is so brief)

Neither. You seemed to be talking in both so I responded in both, but I seriously should have stopped this quite some time ago. As I have said before, we clearly have very different perspectives on certain things that make debate pretty much useless. It seems like both of us view the other to be speculating and imagining about the morality of characters in order to define the state of the world the author created. Neither of us is likely to accept the other's perspective so I'm out for real this time, and I'm seriously sorry for dragging this so long.

Yep, fully agree on that. I reached midnight reading chapters of the novel.
Anyway, I think we cannot really discuss novel things here in the anime thread. Let's just wait for season 2. Or maybe they give us an OVA soon. ^^

The author of this didnt even try when it came to side characters or the world setting. This might work for a novel, or a manga that's loose with it's scenes, but won't work for a visual medium too well.
It's a pity the story wasn't too bad, though honestly the way the etchii stuff was done was more of a distraction. I'm gonna guess this got greenlit because of the etchii stuff. Given better execution, some more characters to flesh everything out, some actual work on the world and setting and better screenplay this could actually be very interesting in it's premise. As is it's an enjoyable, but otherwise a bit sub average show. Well at least everyone in the main cast is pretty cool, though somewhat generic. Oh right, and the maou's magic naming sense sucks, and his spells are very underwhelming (different colored scorched earth every time, and not much damage). Would have been better if he was given just about any other weapon, though given the lack of choreography probably wont make a difference.
