The Pillows are superb - hard-driving but melodic straight-ahead J-rock with very clever lyrics. If you want a sample of their music, check out the 6-episode series FLCL - which you should have already done, anyway, as it's one of the best series in recent memory.

Seconding Aqua Timez, KOTOKO, Kawada Mami, Mizuki Nana, ELISA, Lia, Hikaru Utada, TM Revolution, and Kalafina (their latest single Magia is incredible).
Also from the same composer of Kalafina is FictionJunction (Akatsuki no Kuruma, Honoo no Tobira, Toki no Mukou Maboroshi no Sora). They're relatively new, but ClariS is a pair of middle-school girls with a lot of talent and they went professional, with their two singles (irony, Connect) being used for the openings of two popular anime. Kurosaki Maon is also new, but she also shows a lot of talent. (Kimi to Taiyou ga Shinda Hi, Return to Destiny, Memories Last) Yousei Teikoku is a gothic rock band, and I love their songs (Asgard, Tasogare no Getsuka, Tamakui, Schwarzer Sarg). Another good band is angela (Alternative, Spiral). Their instrumentals are excellent and the vocals are very strong. sphere (MOON SIGNAL, Now Loading... SKY!!) is a group of four seiyuu, and their pop music is pretty enjoyable. If you don't mind listening to Engrish, MELL's songs (Red fraction, Virgin's high!) are very good and packed with energy. There's the band Girls Dead Monster (Alchemy, Little Braver, Thousand Enemies) from the anime Angel Beats!. They've released quite a lot of singles which did well in the rankings. I also loved the band Thyme (Forever We Can Make It!, Fly Away) but it seems they've officially broken up. I found this great song on nicosound. I don't know much about the people performing it, but it seems that the band is BACK-ON and the woman is misono.

I like almost all the artists you listed!
GazettE , An Cafe and Breakerz and DOES are excellent J-rock bands. (out of them, Breakerz are closest to Uverworld IMO) Gackt is a great J-rock visual kei soloist. L'arc~en~Ciel is amazing too, also rock! For regular J-pop, I like Fukuyama Masaharu (a bit more conservative in style but can pull off awesome rock as well), T.M. Revolution (vocalist of ABS so you might enjoy his solo work too) and Hirai Ken (sings in distinctive falsetto). My absolute favourite artist is Fukuyama, as you can see from my sig/ava set. Here's a sampling of his rock. Spoiler:

Jrockers...
seconding The GazettE, An Cafe, and Gackt, and adding Sincrea (a little softer), Sadie (really hard rock) , Dir en grey (somewhat hard rock) and Miyavi. Jpop, definitely seconding Fukuyama Masaharu

This. A great great band.
Also, why have Asian Kung-Fu Generation not been mentioned yet? I'm yet to find a track by them that I dislike... Spoiler for AKFG:
Also check out Boris, although they're quite an acquired taste. Spoiler for Boris:
