Both Great Teacher Onizuka and Maria Holic Alive have the part where the main characters have to study hard for their tests. And I think Baka To Test might have what you like but I'm not sure, I didn't watch the whole series. Hope that helps.

Well there is a small part in Itazura Na Kiss when the main character actually studies hard and defied expectations in the results.
