Arrow Something energetic from the first episode....

Not bothered by the genre before anyone mentions it. Lately it's been shit, honestly. I'm hoping for something which has a lively cast, unpredictable most times, animation which is preferably new and overall just plain random plots.

FLCL is an example.

Kyoran Kazoku Nikki. It's crazy from the start to end and some time maybe too energetic and over the top.

Well, can't get much more random and hyperactive than Excel Saga in my book (except for FLCL but you already know that)

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann's one of the most energetic shows you can find... Lots of things blowing up, and the plot moves at a lightning pace.

Some good suggestions up there, to which I'll add Needless. Manic action, screwball comedy and lots of overall bizarre energy.

I agree, and was going to recommend it but I am not sure plot style what he's looking for exactly, if he doesn't mind that then I'd second it for sure.

LOL, sat through the 2nd movie yesterday and you are right, unpredictability is not it's strength. Unless you count the fact that in the finale

Let's throw Abenobashi Mahou Shotengai in there too. Lots of Gainax insanity from the starting gun.
