Chicago.
More specifically Chicago before Terry Kath's death. I especially love those first two albums, although there are some great songs after the first two albums like "Call On Me". I'm just torn on this band because their rate of songs I enjoy decreased radically over their years. They still have one or two songs I like after Terry Kath's death, but that's all.

Good to see that few people have a "single favorite band" ... though expansion of genre horizons for some might be a Good Idea.
The music I cut my teeth on was from groups like Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, EL&P in the 70s and a wide range in the 80s (ZZTop, Depeche Mode, B-52s, R.E.M., AC/DC, various electronica and new age). In the 90s, grunge, metal, and alternative rock (Spin Doctors, Black Crowes, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc). More recently, a pastiche of groups (Offspring, System of a Down, Muse, etc) These days, I listen to music from all over the planet and from many genres and have a few favorites in each one. Its not unusual to hear Turkish ethnic rock, American bluegrass, j-rock, Scandinavian hip-hop, Balinese gamelan, or electronic ambient all in the same hour drifting through the house.

I can definitely single out a favorite in this case - Coldplay. Their music always gets me in the mood - it's often powerful and beautiful.
Another candidate would be Daft Punk, though I'm not sure if that qualifies as a real band. |
