I never expected him or don't expect to him to finish this old guy. It's great to see Shioon kick ass for a change, but I think it's a stretch to have him be able to beat someone of this caliber at this time. Just me though...

Did the manga ever explicitly say Elder Kwon is one of the "Murim's 10 Grand Masters"? Is he simply not in the 10 or is that implied?

I hope he gets to the island soon and whoop some butt.

Yes it explicitly say he is one of Miriam's 10 grand masters
I think it was around the time shioon fought glasses guy for the first time but I can't be bothered to look it up

Oh well in next 2-5 chapters elder will come to save the day, while grandpa will learn some respect for kids balls.

Well it would be quite anti-climatic now, if the grandpa managed to make Shiwoon unconcious and retreat before the heli lands.

Yes you're right. It's in chapter 59 (page 5) where he meets the masked guy with top hat that apologizes to Elder Kwon. Whatever happened to that guy? This manga's so dragged out I'm forgetting most of the plot. =(

The masked guy is the assistant of that "genius guy" from the Martial Arts Alliance.

It is a good chapter. This chapter shows how much stronger is Mad Doc, but, at the same time it explains how Shion could win. Mad Doc will win if Shion either surrender or fall unconscious. Shion proved that he will either survive till arrival of his clan or will die. Either of those means Mad Doc lost. In terms of psychological warfare Shion already won. He "just" need to not to lose consciousness during next few minutes.
Mad Doc, as he said himself, fears only an enemy willing to sacrifice himself. In other words - he fears people like Shion.
