LimeWire is being sued for $75,000,000,000,000

That's 75 trillion dollars.

What are your thoughts on this, citizens of AnimeSuki?

I'm willing to believe that there is less than 75 Trillion dollars in the world.

It's bloody madness.

I think that even Dr. Evil couldn't ask for that much money with a straight face.

I also think that he's much more sane than the music industry is...

I hope this shows the government that we really don't need laws like COICA and ACTA when the record companies are clearly so greedy they don't care about morality, only money.

Well from the comments of the article

To add more fun statistical context, the CIA World Factbook tells me that Planet Earth's entire money supply coincidentally equals (at the broadest estimate) $75.86 trillion.

So, the music industry is basically asking Limewire for all of Earth's money

Correct me if I'm wrong (and I might be, as I'm not American) but if a defendant in a legal suit like this one, in the US, is not able to pay the damages, doesn't it require the federal US government of the day to pay the damages to the plaintiff?

If so, just what exactly is the music industry trying to accomplish here? Bankrupting America?

Just goes to show how EXTREMELY insane these music execs. are... thinking how self-important they are.

Having been around "musicians" in high school band ... many many many years ago ... I am aware of inflated egos associated with those involved in music. I can only imagine how inflated they are at the executive level.

Makes me wanna go and pirate some more of their "Hard Earned Money"

If you LOOK at the (Multiple) Houses and Cars some of those artists have, I don't feel bad anymore

Well to shine some light on US law. No, if the defendant cannot pay the sum, they simply bankrupt themselves. US government doesn't need to do anything in this case.

I will say though that this is absolutely... wtf.

Copyright Law needs to be changed so that these... "media copyrights" have an expiration of less than 20-40 years - unless the original creator is still alive.

And now, I LOL:

Just because they asked for 75 trillion (obviously) doesn't mean they're going to get it. A jury can order the defendant to pay a penny if they're so inclined.

they have some dollar amount per song shared. either way, i'mma go steal a cd (as in walk into a store, and steal it) because its cheaper to deal with that problem than downloading one... bbl.
