Really funny episode, sure everyone has bad days where everything just went wrong but for Hotori it's particularly hilarious. It looks like she had a crush on her teacher, but when she's sharing it with Tatsuno it somehow derails into the meaning of life...that's misunderstanding (and general stupidity from Hotori) for you. I do agree that between all the funny things are pretty realistic, the fight with the younger siblings is very common. Also, they mention two things that are huge taboos:
1. You never ever turn the game off when someone else is playing. Especially if they haven't saved yet. The little brother has every right to be angry, and seeing him really brought back childhood memories when my parents do the same thing Hotori did...
2. Most of Hotori's reaction is childish, but the one at the end where the younger siblings spoil the murderer is perfectly justifiable for me. They have effectively ruin the whole thing for Hotori, that poor soul.

Oh, and best line of the episode:
Sanada: What did you do (to get the police to arrest you)?
Hotori: I have an incomplete hamburger.

Just perfect.

The word ukiuki that they are translating as "lets be gay" does in fact mean cheerful, buoyant, or lighthearted.

(I think it might also be a pun... isn't the shop owner named Ukiuki or something?)

Anyway, I think they are translating it as gay because genki is the more typical word for being happy or cheerful, while ukiuki has slightly different connotations that are better expressed by the old meaning of the word "gay".

That and it makes for a hilarious joke.
Yeah, I guess so. It just makes more sense that way, it does make a good joke as well too.

Too bad they changed that line to "Let's be happy" in episode two (and probably also in the v3 of the first ep).

Yeah... I much preferred the "let's be gay" version.

And I can't find the first episode with that version to download. The one I got is the "let's be happy" version.

Her name is Omigawa Chiaki, and it strikes me that your view of this series is very much going to depend on whether you like her as a seiyuu. I do - loved her in NnA and she was the best thing in Seitokai Yakuindomo for me. But I'm the first to admit that every character she plays appears to be a version of herself, to some extent - the voice doesn't really change much. If you like that, great. But in this series it's really make or break - Arashiyama's antics are pretty much what drives the entire show. It's a star vehicle - her voice work suffuses every scene, every gag. I think she's a perfect fit for this screwball, hurricane of a silly girl - I find both the character and the performance adorable. But if you don't feel the same way I think it's going to be a major problem, because there's nothing really spectacular here for me other than that.

I like her voice. She doesn't have the acting and voice modulation abilities of co-star Aoi Yuuki, but I think she is perfectly suited to this role.

Episode 2 was good. Lol, that cop is hilarious. I also got a kick out of Hotori's rather aggressive marketing tactics. The conversation scene at the beginning was funny, too. This show is pretty funny.

It seems like her seiyuu, Yazawa Rieka, is a newcomer. Her voice (we can already hear it in the ending) is interesting.

Yes very interesting infact, I instantly went to check her up when I heard the ED, to find to my surprise she is a newcomer.
If the japanese have any appreciation for interesting voice acting then I expect to alot of Reika in the furture.
She sounds absolutley great in the ED and while I may be getting my hopes up here(which I don't really care) I think she will be great

God knows how many times I've listened to the ED, it's bloody brilliant!

I think I fell in love with Chiaki Omigawa's voice after this episode. I totally didn't know she is P-ko and Soul Eater was sooo long ago (not to mention I stopped halfway). Now I look forward to Hana Saku Iroha even more @___@. Her voice is just a perfect match for Hotori.

+1 Chiaki *nod*nod*

It's taken me two episodes but I think I can finally accept Omigawa's voice in this role. It's strange, because I liked her a lot in everything she's done. But for this role, at first I just felt like it didn't fit at all.

But, anyway, Chiaki seems like kind of an airhead in real life as well, so it kind of fits. At least, that's based on listening to some of the radio shows she has done. (Of course, sometimes it's hard to tell what's real and what's just a put-on on those radio shows...)

It looks like she got a walk-on in the scene where Hotori rides into the cop.
Spoiler for Episode 2:
